The Kozolec building has nine levels, along the street front there are shops; followed by two office levels and residential levels. The apartment is located on the first residential level (the third floor of the building) and can be accessed by elevator or stairs.

Entering the apartment you will notice windows that let plenty of light in an open plan living room, dining room and kitchen. From the hall one door leads to the living room and the other to the kitchen and if you turn right there is a family bathroom and the Master bedroom with the en-suite bathroom at the end of the hallway.

The family bathroom is a good sized and has a bathtub with shower, a toilet and sink and a washing machine. The Master bedroom is separated from the living room by the hallway and additionally benefits from the en-suite, thus it offers plenty of peace and privacy. The room is very light and has access to the glazed - in balcony. Apart from the bed (king size 180 x 200 cm) there is a wardrobe and a desk if you need to work or simply comfortably read about the sights of Ljubljana and the door leading to the en-suite bathroom. The en-suite has a corner shower, toilet and a sink and although it is smaller in size to the family bathroom it still provides you with everything you need.

The open plan living room is the heart of the apartment together with the large windows and the door that lead to the glazed - in balcony which runs the entire length of the apartment and provides extra living space. Before the renovation the apartment was one of the workshops of the architect Aleš Šeligo. Elements of interior inside the apartment are from different projects designed by the architect and the apartment also exhibits his architectural achievements. You can watch TV on the big screen Smart TV or prepare a meal in the kitchen which is equipped with everything you might need for your stay, including a dishwasher. In it you will find a fridge, a microwave, ceramic glass hub and plenty of utensils. There is a very comfortable sofa that can sleep 2 (140x200 cm). At the other end of the living room there is door to the second bedroom. The bedroom is large and has two single beds, a wardrobe and a desk for working.

About the Owner

My family lives in Ljubljana and although we are residents of the capital we like to explore all the hidden and even less hidden treasures of our city. Voranc is four and his greatest joy in Ljubljana (especially in the summer) are ice creams in all shapes and sizes followed by the Puppet Theater. I love history so a visit to the castle which is towering over our beautiful Ljubljana is a must....often, not just once a year...and while I am trying to imagine how people lived in this city many years ago, my husband is observing the surrounding buildings and trying to notice every little detail as he should being an architect.

The real charm of this apartment is its connection with architecture. It is a part of the heritage building Kozolec, one of the most important examples of modern Slovene architecture, designed by the architect Edo Mihevc. It was built in the 1950's and named Kozolec (Hayrack) because of its skeletal frame and distinctive horizontal lines typical of a unique Slovene wooden hayrack that has been developed in the 16th century. Our building was designed in the same period as the famous Unité d'habitation in Marseilles by Le Corbusier. My husband, architect Aleš Šeligo, who is also the author of the elevation renovation of the building Kozolec in 2009, believes that both Le Corbusier and Mihevc found their inspiration in the post revolutionary architecture in the Soviet Union; the famous Moscow’s residential building Narkomfin designed by the architects Moisei Ginzburg and Ignatii Milinis that has been developed in 1928 and Tsentrosayuz by Ivan Leonidov; the latter was academically redeveloped by Le Corbusier. There are nine levels in the Kozolec building; shops on the first level are followed by two levels of offices and six residential levels. The roof is really a terrace with offers a unique view over Ljubljana. It is still not known why the building Kozolec was originally built. Some believe that its representative apartments were planned to house high political and trade representatives, while others think that it was designed to house the Western Army Headquarters during zone A and B period (Paris Peace Treaty, 1947). The two office levels would have been for command’s operational rooms and the apartments would have been for high military representatives. The apartment itself reveals another architectural story. As mentioned, elements of interior inside the apartment are from different projects of the architect Aleš Šeligo and on the walls you can see some architectural projects related to water from the author’s opus “Architecture and Water”.

The apartment Kozolec is interwoven with architecture and as such located in a renowned building "Kozolec" in the center of Ljubljana, the capital and biggest city of Slovenia. Its location is perfect for either business and leisure travelers as it is located a few minutes away from both the business and the historic center. It is very easily accessible by car and also the main bus and railway station of Ljubljana are about 500 meters from the apartment. Staying at the apartment Kozolec is great for visiting interesting sights of Ljubljana as it is approx. 150 m away from the historical center and 500 m from the Old Town.

Opposite the apartment Kozolec there is the Stock Exchange and all major banks, thus the location is perfect for business visitors.

The building is connected to a public parking garage and approx. 150 meters away is another outdoor car park, however both care parks are public and additional fee applies.

The Slovenska street used to be among most busy roads in the city but is much quieter now due to the fact that Ljubljana's city center is closed for most traffic. Buses, taxis and cyclists along with the residents are now domineering the street and creating a unique experience along the Slovenska street.

Before the renovation that turned the apartment Kozolec into vacation apartment you see today, this apartment was one of the workshops of architect Aleš Šeligo. Around the renovated apartment you’ll find elements from the different projects that Šeligo worked on, such as his opus titled “Architecture and Water”. Architect Aleš Šeligo believes that among the arts and all its forms, architecture is possibly the most responsible to humanity. Therefore he enabled the use of this apartment and is allocating part of the profit generated by this vacation rental to development of young architects who understand that the architecture is responsible for the evolutionary development of our existence. It is possible to avoid other art forms, but it is impossible to avoid architecture. Architecture follows, guides and touches people every step of the way - either unknowingly or with its full power; without needing to go to the theater or read a book or visit a gallery. Architecture is and always will be the accompanying art of the governing class, who in turn also depend on it, sometimes as a blind servant. This is clearly evident in architectural creations that have been used as a means of political manifestation and at times they are the peak of indoctrination of certain ideologies or repressions.
