Modern cottage - 1 mins walk from village centre and surrounding countryside

Updated: 17-Oct-2016
Dob Cottage is a one bedroom cottage walking distance to restaurants and shops

Dob Cottage is a nearly new stone built cottage in a pleasant courtyard setting, just a short stroll from the village centre with all it's amenities. The cottage is fitted out with all mod.cons. and yet has the characterful beams so typical of the area. The bedroom on the ground floor has 2 comfortable 3ft beds (can convert to double) with 300/400 thread count Egyptian cotton bedding and pocket sprung mattresses. The bathroom has a bath and separate shower plus wc and wash basin.. Upstairs is an open plan kitchen/lounge area with all modern facilities including a 42" flat screen television, with DVD player.

No more than two minutes walk away, there are good restaurants, take-aways, shops, ATM's and lots of countryside walks, so no need to use the car . There is an allocated parking spot right outside the door of the cottage.

The charming village of Holmfirth with its many quirky little shops and eating places, is just 5 minutes drive away.

About the Owner

I have lived in this beautiful, rustic and friendly area now for 16 years, and although I'm from "over the hills" they don't seem to hold it against me! I retired a short time ago, and that gave me the opportunity to start my little holiday let business which has been a dream of mine for some time. I live in close proximity to Dob Cottage and after driving around the North West as a self-employed rep. for many years, I am enjoying the delights of this area, with it's wonderful characters, scenery and "things to do".

We really enjoyed our 3 night stay in Honley and the only negative point was that our time there was so short. Dob Cottage is amazing and Jenny has created a beautiful yet welcoming environment that was a pleasure to stay in. From the wonderful welcome basket to the note she left for us about the heating when the weather turned cold - all indications of the perfect hostess. Spotlessly clean with everything a person needs to feel at home - Dob Cottage definitely deserves a 5 star rating. Thanks for sharing it with us Jenny!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. The locality of the cottage is one of its best attributes - no need to use the car to go for a meal or a drink. Home delivery too, when the feet ache after exploring the beautiful countryside (maybe not from the fish and chip shop!!!).

Excellent cottage

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful little cottage, well presented, with everything that you could wish for in terms of equipment and facilities. Close to local shops and parking immediately outside. The owner goes to a lot of trouble to make you feel welcome and there is a welcome pack she has kindly provided. There are plenty of choices for eating locally and we made use of some of these, where the food was very good. We recommend the cottage very highly.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your review. I should mention I have the help of some great girls (and a guy) who keep the cottage clean and tidy, and well maintained. I'm so pleased you used the local eateries and the shops, and found everything to hand. Come back anytime!!

The VERY best

If there was a six star review this would be it. Location, cleanliness, more conveniences than you have at home, and Jenny, the owner, is a delight. She cares about you, her tenants. Gay and John Stettinius, Arkansas, USA

Beautiful cottage in centre of Honley

  • 5 of 5

We found this cottage very well equipped and clean. Our welcome pack was second to non. It iis minutes walking distance to pubs, shops, resteraunts and bus stops. We would recommend Jacobs Well for good beer and food also the Allied Arms ( take your own food ) for a local pub with a passionate land lady for keeping a good pint. If a curry is wanted then the Pink Elephant resteraunt ( attached to the Forresters ) is excellent but the beers were not as good as other pubs.

Fineally for £5 taxi ride you can visit Holnfirth.

We will be returning to this cottage.

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your kind review. It is particularly good for future guests in that there are some unbiased opinions of local hostelries and places to visit, which could be very helpful to them. Hope you can make it back to stay with us again at some point. You'd be very welcome.

Lovely property

  • 5 of 5

I am so pleased I found this cottage on Owners Direct. The booking process was very easy and the owner, Jenny, was extremely pleasant and helpful and easy to contact. The property is so clean and beautifully decorated and very well equipped, and I felt comfortable as soon as I entered. I really appreciated the welcome pack also, which was very generous - although for the benefit of my waistline I should never have eaten those lovely M&S chocs!!!!

From the Owner

I love this area because of the spectacular scenery, and the amazing wildlife. For birdwatchers, it is a very worthwhile area to visit, with the owls and the curlews on the moors, and the woodland birds in the valleys.. It is a very "arty" area with many talented artists and sculptors. There are several events throughout the year ie.Art Week, The Folk Festival etc. The local Tourist Information Office has the details! Country pubs and good restaurants and loads of good walks make it an excellent tourist destination. The Holme Valley is picturesque, rustic, and has a warm and welcoming charm all of its own. I like to think that Dob Cottage is a relaxing and comfortable place to come home to, after a busy day of exploring!

From the Owner

We chose this area to live because, although we have all the facilities we need in the village, we are surrounded by beautiful countryside. Also, the proximity of the cities of Manchester, Leeds and Sheffield, make it ideal.
