Quaker Barn

Quaker Barn is a holiday cottage for 8 people. The split-level living area in Quaker Barn has an elevated kitchen and dining area with views towards the kitchen garden. Steps lead down to a seating area with woodburner. Sliding doors open to a private garden. There are two en suite double bedrooms and a twin room can provide a further two beds on a raised ledge accessed by a ladder, which children love. There is a separate bathroom and utility room.

Simple, understated décor lets the building speak for itself. Marble chip floors and underfloor heating make it warm in winter and cool in summer. The barn is superbly equipped with oven, microwave, hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer, woodburner, WiFi, television, DVD, Freeview, Sonos speaker and barbecue.

Activity and Interests

Quaker Barns, although very rural, are brilliantly situated for getting out and about to explore Norfolk. It’s only a twenty minute drive to Wroxham, in the heart of the Broads, and the stunning north Norfolk coast is just half an hour away. Norwich can also be reached in twenty minutes.

From both Barns you will find uninterrupted views across open fields. You can walk from the door along field and footpath. Deer can often be seen leaping through the bracken and there is an abundance of birdlife so do bring your binoculars. Miles of quiet country lanes are perfect for cyclists, and the 30-mile Marriott’s Way (old railway line) is just fifteen minutes away by pedal.

Hire a boat on the Broads and idle the time away, or paddle your way around in a canoe or kayak and commune with the herons. As for the coast, there is huge variety on offer: wild and windswept Holkham beach, famously seen in the finishing shots of ‘Shakespeare in Love;’ Wells-next-the-Sea for its pretty beach huts; the salt marshes at Stiffkey for creek swimming and mudfights; or Sheringham for seaside shops and fish and chips.

If historic country houses are your thing then Norfolk is perfect as it is packed with them: Holkham, Houghton, Oxborough and Sandringham to name but a few. Magnificent Jacobean Blickling Hall is less than fifteen minutes from the Barns.

There are a number of fabulous country pubs within easy reach of the Barns, including The Buckinghamshire Arms at Blickling, The Walpole Arms at Itteringham and The Earle Arms in the ‘secret’ village of Heydon. Further afield there’s the Gunton Arms on the edge of Gunton deer park, The Dun Cow at Salthouse and The Victoria at Holkham, all serving excellent food.

Shop nearby in the Georgian market towns of Reepham, Aylsham and Holt. Browse and have a coffee in The Dial House or pick up a loaf in Bread Source. Great butchers and suppliers of fresh, local produce include Farm to Fork and G. F. White. If you don't feel like cooking pick up a wood-fired pizza at Husk.

Children can meet Crocklebugs and Twiggles at Bewilderwood, walk with dinosaurs at Weston Park, ride zipwires or climb the wall at Hilltop Adventure Park, or travel back in time at Gressenhall Farm and Workhouse.

Norwich is famous for its medieval cathedral, Norman castle (now a museum) and colourful, covered market. It also offers a huge variety of shops and cafes as well as a wide range of restaurants and nightlife.

While there's plenty for everyone to do Quaker Barns is also the perfect place simply to relax or get together with family and friends.

We are located North of Norwich in Norfolk. Our address is Quaker Barns, School Road, Norwich, Norfolk, NR10 4QF.

Directions from Norwich - Take the ring road round Norwich and follow the A140 Cromer road out of the city. Pass the airport on the right, then at the roundabout turn off onto B1149, signed Holt & Horsford. Pass through the village of Horsford, and continue on the B1149 (do not take the Haveringland Road). After approximately two further miles, turn left into Green Lane, shortly after passing the Marsham Arms pub in a dip on the right. After about half a mile you will come to some converted barns on the left. Immediately after passing these barns turn left onto a track in front of a blue sign: ‘Quaker Farm - Farm Traffic Only’. Quaker Barns are 30m straight down the track. Hall Barn is on the left and Quaker Barn on the right. You may unload in front of the barns but then please park in the bays on the left of the drive.
