Set in the heart of the Normandy hedgerow country we are located in a part of Normandy that was liberated by American troops who landed on D-Day. Situated between the triangle of Brecey, Avranches and St Hilaire du Harcouet and close to Mortain, site of the engagement in August 1944 that brought the battle of Normandy to a close. The property has all the rural qualities you could hope for whilst still only being 30 minutes from the coast. Maison May offers excellent links to local amenities, small towns and great places of interest. Le Mont St Michel and the beautiful sandy beaches of Normandy to the West and Bayeux to the North East. This central location in the heart of Normandy means you can enjoy it all from a very comfortable base. Maison May is a lovely converted farmhouse dating back to the 1700s and the family suite is a delightful bright and airy room but still retains lots of charm and character. Sleeping up to 4 people in 1 double bed and 2 single beds. There is free Wifi tea & coffee making facilities and TV with English free view channels. The en suite bathroom has a full size bath with overhead shower wc and wash basin.
For those who are interested in the history surrounding Normandy and are planning to visit the D Day beach and battle sites, we can put you in contact with an English retired historian who lives locally and who can help you to plan an itinerary and join you for the day. Having lived in Normandy since 2009, Alan has collected a huge amount of material on the liberation and has enabled school groups, families and couples to see where the key events actually happened, including many places that do not feature in the guide books and condensing into one day a variety of sites that would take much longer to discover independently.
Visits are tailored to your specific interests and needs and a typical accompanied day, in your own vehicle, lasting from 9am-6pm would cost 200 euros. After your confirmed booking we can give you contact details on these tours.
We are Paul & Jan from the North West of England who made the move to Normandy in December 2014. We spent 2 months looking for our perfect home and found it here in this lovely little hamlet La Grande Epelengere. We got the keys early April and set about making it a home from home. We have a married son and two beautiful grandchildren who keep us on our toes when they visit.
Jan & Paul purchased this farmhouse in 2015
After viewing many properties with the prospect of running a bed and breakfast with a gite we fell for this house as soon as we arrived at the gate. It has everything we could wish for to make our guests feel at home with gardens to relax in after a long drive
We love the character of the building and believe it was built around the 1700s. We have the bread oven and the original well in our gardens that served the village all those years ago. The hay lofts in the barns still have the hay dating back to then and the whole property oozes charm and character.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left,Jan & Paul could not have done more to make our stay more enjoyable. The accommodation was 5*,having been recently refurbished to the highest standard - such attention to detail. The food was amazing and their welcome was second to none.Jan and Paul had thought of everything. The entire experience was wonderful. The grounds are beautiful and this lovely accommodation made a perfect 2-night break for our group of 5 (ranging from 17-51).We simply cannot fault them, but wish them both all the very best for this new venture. They deserve to do SO well.Thank you!
