Exmoor Holiday Cottage in Little Mead, Brendon, Exmoor

Overview

Property

Updated: 27-Nov-2016
Sleeps 6. 3 Bedrooms. 1 Bath 1 Shower room each with toilet and hand basin.

A good sized porch leads into the hallway. The recently enlarged sitting room has a wood burning stove and enjoys pleasant views of the wooded slopes surrounding the village..

The large kitchen/diner has an oil fired rayburn providing full central heating and hot water in the Spring and Autumn, with an electric immersion for the summer.

A very special feature of Little Mead is the spacious sun lounge/diner specifically built to take advantage of the splendid views up the valley.

There is a ground floor double bedroom (king size), a bathroom with wc and a shower room with wc. Stairs lead up from the kitchen to two bedrooms, one double (4ft 6″) and one twin. Both have views over the river.

Little Mead, Brendon – an idyllic detached Cottage in the heart of Lorna Doone Country.

Leading off the kitchen is a “garden room” with door to the riverside garden. Over the years we have opened up delightful views of the river to be enjoyed from the lawn behind the cottage, garden table and chairs are provided.

Recently the garden has been considerably enlarged to include a newly planted mini-orchard ensuring the cottage is completely surrounded by it’s own tranquil setting.

Littlemead is a non smoking cottage!

Another wonderful stay

  • 5 of 5

We returned to Littlemead after a wonderful previous stay and yet again were not disappointed. If you are looking for a peaceful relaxing holiday in a cosy cottage this is for you! Within easy reach of all the sights of beautiful Exmoor. Fabulous walks on your doorstep for taking your dogs and stunning views.

We spent a lot of time in the tranquil garden dining outside enjoying the beautiful views. Anything you need Littlemead has it from logs for the open fire to a very well equipt kitchen.

A must stay for everyone!

Already looking at booking our next holiday!

Lovely cottage in a fabulous location.

  • 5 of 5

Littlemead is a lovely cottage in a stunning part of exmoor. Close to the North Devon coastline and right in the heart of the Doone Valley. We only just arrived yesterday and we are so pleased we chose Littlemead for our holiday. It is clear the current owners love this little cottage. It is very homely and we are already feeling relaxed. Well equipt, clean and very cosy. We are certainly going to enjoy our stay here.

A little Gem of a cottage

  • 5 of 5

As regular visitors to the Lynmouth area this beautiful cottage is by far the best we've stayed in! A home from home with everything you would need to make a relaxing stay. Peaceful and private but within walking distance of The stag hunters pub for a lovely meal and minutes away from all areas that we wanted to visit. The garden is wonderful with wildlife and the river to relax by. The owners are very helpful and friendly and have thought of all little extra's that go to making your stay perfect. Will be recommending this cottage without hesitation! Thank you so much Sally!

Perfect cottage in a perfect location

  • 5 of 5

On our first sight of the cottage we could not believe how lucky we were to have picked such a perfect place. Over the years we have stayed in many cottages but this one has to be in one of the nicest locations. The cottage it's self had everything you would require to make a comfortable stay. The cottage had such a welcoming feel and you instantly knew you were going to enjoy your weeks holiday. The walks from the cottage were all in easy reach and really picturesque. One such walk which we and our dogs enjoyed was a leisurely stroll to Watersmeet which is one not to be missed. The people who lived in the village of Brendon were extremely friendly and were quite happy to talk about the local area.Besides walking this cottage was situated in an ideal position to journey by car to other parts of North Devon.Without any hesitation we would highly recommend this cottage to our family and friends and to anyone who reads this review.

A wonderful cottage, in a beautiful area

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful week here - the cottage is very spacious and well equiped - the owners have created a very comfortable holiday house which was clean and had everything we needed and more. To be honest this place is better than described and a bargain for 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 sitting rooms and an eat in kitchen. The area is fantastic, so many walks, and things to do - National Trust, hidden valleys, Tarr Steps, Dulverton, Lynton, Lynmouth and the Valley of the Rocks were some of our favorites. The Doone Valley is really beautiful and coastline spectacular. You can walk to a great pub or drive to many more. So many places to visit, we will need to come back many times and this is a great base from which to explore ! Exmoor is an amazing part of the UK - We will back again very soon and will be recommending it to friends and family - I don't very often do these reviews but having just returned from a much more expensive and not so good week in Wales I was prompted to say just how good our week here was - many thanks for a great week, even the weather was kind to us.

Location

Activity and Interests

Car: necessary

Little Mead is an idyllic area, on the edge of the village of Brendon, surrounded by wooded hills, providing complete seclusion – ideal for walkers, horse riders, golfers or fishermen.

Quiet and tranquil Brendon is only 3 miles from the Doone Valley and the picturesque towns of Lynton and Lynmouth.

Footpaths criss cross the area over the open moor, through wooded valleys and along the spectacular Exmoor coast line.

It is an easy drive to the pretty village of Porlock along the dramatic scenic coast road.

To the west are the superb beaches of Croyde and Woolacombe.

Fishing: Salmon, sea trout and trout fishing is available on the East Lyn River: Down stream of the cottage tickets are available from Brendon House Hotel (lOOyds from the cottage) for the Glenthome and Watersmeet fishery. Tickets also available upstream of the cottage on the Badgworthy Water.

Riding: There are plenty of stables in the area but we recommend either Brendon Manor Stables, or Clouds Hill Farm Stables at Malmsmead.

Golf: There are golf courses at Ilfracombe, Minehead and Saunton Sands.

Walking: The walks are too numerous to mention except to say that from the cottage you can either walk along the river, up onto the moor or along the coastal path. All are within easy reach.

Eating out: There are any number of excellent eating places. The Stag Hunters Inn is only 250 yds from the cottage and the Rockford Inn a mile further on and the Blue Ball at Countisbury. A particular favourite of ours is the Fox and Goose at Parracombe about a twenty minute drive away.
