Overview

About the property

Riveloup is situated on the Loup river in 1ha of beautiful flat private parkland

Riveloup is situated on the Loup river in a hectare of beautiful flat private parkland near the Cote d'Azur villages of Le Bar-sur-Loup and Tourrettes-sur-Loup.

The soothing sound of the water lapping over the rocks creates a calming and therapeutic atmosphere whilst you relax poolside finding a quiet place within or lying on the hammock reading a book whilst enjoying the beautiful views. In the summer afternoons you'll hear the great sound of the singing Cicadas!

The views are tremendous on all sides, with the mountains rising dramatically in the background. Riveloup enjoys spectacular views of the Gorge du Loup and the hilltop Medieval Villages of Le Bar-sur-Loup and Gourdon.

Set in a magnificent flat lawned garden, planted with South of France umbrella pines, palms, olives and cedars. There is a big lavender patch, flowering oleander, jasmine, roses and an orchard.

On the south side is the front lawn and pool area with a fantastic 12 x 6m pool surrounded by sun terraces with several separate outdoor dining areas including a large shaded terrace with long family dining table.

Spacious and homely, Riveloup provides a peaceful environment for family and friends to get together for a relaxing holiday.

A beautiful 8 bedroom property consisting of a six-bedroom stone farmhouse, with 4 bathrooms (2 en-suite), and a separate spacious guest house with two en-suite bedrooms.

The property can accommodate up to 19 guests in regular beds (6 doubles and 7 singles), we also have 2 cots with mattresses for babies and 2 safety rails for toddlers in single beds.

It's a kids paradise with lots to keep the little ones busy (and save). There is a big football field, where you could play various ball games. The grounds are very big (1ha) and there are plenty of options to keep everyone entertained.

Facilities includes: Pool with inflatables toys, noodles etc, Gas BBQ, Traditional wood/coal BBQ, Weber, Outdoor tables and chairs, Ping-pong table, Parasols and sun-loungers, large playing field (football, rounders, cricket), Sandpit, Trampoline, Hammock, ride-on's for small children just ask us beforehand and lots of parking.

The river is on the edge of the property, still safe for little ones as you can close the gate between us and the river, but it is a wonderful addition to the property. Children love to play in the shallow water and find tadpoles, frogs, fish, making objects from the clay and watching butterflies and dragon flies You can jump in to the deep end from the opposite river side and relax in a tube on the river if you don't fancy the fresh water. There are also beautiful walks along the river and it's a great place to enjoy a cold glass of rose in the early evening.

The landing zone for the hang-gliders are only 5 min walk away along the river and it's great fun watching them coming in to land. You'll see many of them in the sky from the house, they get quite low down as it's so close to the landing zone.

The kids will enjoy finding fireflies in the garden and listening to the frogs croaking at night.

Access to Polygone, the American style open air giant shopping complex, is only 15min away. You can be on the beaches of the Cote d'Azur in 45min, the lively villages of Valbonne, Grasse, Gourdon, Le Rouret, Tourrettes-sur-Loup, Le Bar-sur-Loup and St Paul de Vence is all between 10 and 20 min away.

We have lots of restaurant and day trip suggestions in our comprehensive welcome pack and we're eager to help make your stay as enjoyable and memorable as possible.

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to drop us a line, we respond quickly to emails and enquiries.

Riveloup is the perfect spot for family reunions; it works really well having 2 separate houses, as you can put the quieter group in one house and young children in the other. It also helps having 2 kitchens, especially at breakfast time when some may want to have a more quiet and relax morning and others dealing with demands from little ones.

Please note the Farmhouse will be having a renovation this winter, we are renovating the kitchen and putting 2 dishwashers and a double oven in to ease the cooking and cleaning process.

We also have 2 washing machines in the main house and one dryer and one washing machine in the guest house, this helps a lot to cut time spent in the laundry.

About Liesel Havercroft

Having worked on yachts for many years cruising all over the world we came to France over a decade ago to put down some roots. I have retired from yachting to take on my new role as mum to two very lively boys. Hubby still works as a Captain on a yacht, but we enjoy our family time at Riveloup out of season!

Growing up in South Africa, I wanted to give our children the close to nature childhood that I enjoyed as a child. When I first saw Riveloup I knew straight away that this is the place as it reminded me of my childhood in so many ways.

Hubby grew up in Lincolnshire in a farming community and also had a passion for nature from an early age. We share the idea of a barefoot childhood (so very African) for our children and having a river in the back garden is the cherry on the cake for us. The boys spend hours there and love throwing rocks in the river!

The essence of yachting is attention to detail and striving to please this is something that we also apply to Riveloup! Let us know ahead of time what your requirements are and we'll try our best to accommodate you.

Liesel Havercroft purchased this farmhouse in 2015

Why Liesel Havercroft chose Le Bar-sur-Loup

Riveloup is very well situated, bridging the gap between exploring in land and enjoying the coast. The coastal towns can get extremely busy in the summer and the traffic heavy, at Riveloup you'll be able to choose when you want the buzz, but you can come back late afternoon to enjoy a peaceful time by the pool or river.

The sound of the river is very soothing and there are stunning views to enjoy from different angles of the property. It is close enough to town like Valbonne, Grasse, Chateauneuf, Le Rouret, Bar-sur-Loup or Tourrettes-sur-Loup to enjoy a meal out at night.

We have an extensive restaurant guide and activity book at home to help you choose the right place for the right day.

We have guests who never leaves the property once they get here, as it is a place to unwind and relax!

What makes this farmhouse unique

The river is a great addition to the property, our guests love spending time there with children and being so close to nature. Kids love to watch the little fish and tiny frogs, making object out of the clay from the river, building rock pools and skipping stones. They can also jump in from the opposite river bank or just drift on a tube.

Our rates are ALL inclusive, no extras or hidden fees! Your rate includes accommodation for 19 guests, sheets, towels, pool towels, wifi, Sky TV, free calls to landlines and mobiles in France and cleaning on departure.

Riveloup is ideal for a large family/friend reunions as we're one of the few properties that can accommodate up to 19 guests in beds with 2 houses on the same property.

Having 2 houses really helps when you have a larger group, especially with children and early risers and those who prefer a more quiet morning or a pieceful afternoon nap. It also helps with the traffic in the kitchen in the morning and someone can quietly watch a movie while others socialize.

The property is set on 1ha of beautiful parkland, with beautiful views and lots of activities, so you could still find a quiet place even if you are a large group.

The flat garden is not only safe, but also a great place for children to play and run around. The swimming pool is fenced off. There is also a large sandpit, trampoline, table tennis, boules court, large football pitch and 3 different rooms to watch TV/videos in. We have bedrooms that are very well equipped for children, one with a boys theme and one with a girls theme.

We are well set up for small children and babies, and will try to accommodate you as best as we can to make your stay with children worry free, safe and enjoyable.

We have 2 x cots with comfortable mattresses and bed linen, 2 x bed safety rails for toddlers, 2 x changing mats, 1 x baby bath, potty and toilet trainer seat, 1 x Maclaren stroller.

We will help you find a caterer or chef, organise extra cleaning etc.

A spacious property with great outside space.

  • 5 of 5

A lovely property with fantastic outside space. There were lots of things for the kids to do, spending time in the pool, using the trampoline and just roaming around the grounds. The weather was wonderful and our party spent time relaxing by the pool or in the outside seating. The bedrooms were comfortable and there were plenty of bathrooms. Furthermore the kitchen was very well equipped. Overall a great week and lots to do in the local area, although a little bit of the beaten track to get to the house.

Absolutely magical!

  • 5 of 5

Wow!! This is the most magical setting for a holiday we've ever experienced, in 13 years travelling as a group of 8 adults and 9 children (this year they're 10-16 years old). You feel like you're living in a forest, with views of mountains and hilltop villages all around. But it's not at all remote and you can easily explore stunning villages like Gourdon, Saint Paul de Vence, Le Bar sur loup, as well as Valbonne and the wonderful coast. The really beautiful stream where you can paddle or jump in off the bank is literally outside the gate and together with a fabulous football pitch, table tennis table, trampoline and boules pitch, it adds an extra dimension to the activities available. Liesel has thought of everything you could need and the outside sitting and eating areas are so comfortable. We've never returned to a property in all our 13 years travelling together, but we're booking to go back to Riveloup next year!

Perfection personified; 10-star perfect for both children and adults - in all ways

  • 5 of 5

How can one describe the bestest of holidays?

Riveloup - house, pool, gardens, games, AND the river within 20 metres or so with its "rapids", tree swing, deep enough water to jump in, and shallow enough to check out the fishes, tadpoles, baby frogs - was 'just the business'.

House very comfortable, roomy. We were 16... 8 adults, 8 kids! Kitchen had all that could be required....with all necessary aids, ie dishwasher, washing machine etc. Not to mention the 3 fridges, to cool the quantitities of beer and wine required!

Riveloup is surrounded by gorges, mountains, adventures - so it can be both a pool and river holiday (for those wanting to chill out) and also outdoor pursuits, challenging and otherwise for the adrenaline junkles!

LIesel is a thoughtful and delightful woman who would (and did) help in any way.

We wanted 2 evenings catered for, and Liesel pointed us in the direction of Bridie|Simply food; excellent, very delicious, both meat and vegetarian.

One thing, and nothing to do with Liesel or Riveloup, if you're hiring a car from Nice Airport, arrange to have it waiting for you at Arrivals - do NOT go to the car rental terminal. It was teeming, resulting in a 2 hours queue...

I am SO SO glad that I found Riveloup and Liesel online; it was a wonderful family catch-up/holiday.....

I recommend Liesel and Riveloup UNRESERVEDLY - as I said up top there - The Bestest of Holidays.

A small spot of heaven among olive trees

  • 5 of 5

We spent five wonderful weeks in the guest house of Riveloup. Leaving Canada on February 4th, at the coldest time of the year, we were delighted to see that spring had arrived in Riveloup. The mimosa trees were in full bloom, violets and primroses bloomed everywhere, and some trees started to bloom in the second week. The temperature was 12 Celsius when we arrive and 20 Celsius when we left. We had a few days of rain and one stormy night.

The guest house is a lovely place, bright and cheery. The kitchen is fully equipped. The beds in both bedrooms, with bathroom en-suite, are comfortable.

Our hostess, Liesel, made sure we had everything we needed and gave us advice on where to go and what to see.

We walked every day, had lunch out in many of the restaurants and bistros in the area. We found that it cost not much more to have a meal at lunchtime than to cook dinner at home. Most places offer an Entree (appetizer) and Plat du Jour (full meal) between 13 to 16 Euros. Restaurants within ten minutes of driving are the Bistro du Clos and the Capprizio. A higher-priced restaurant is L''Écolle des Filles where we had excellent foie gras.

For a different experience, one that takes a little longer, but is well worth the steep drive, we drove to Greolieres and had lunch at La Vielle Auberge, where the escargots were delicious. From there, we continued another 21 km up the mountain to visit Greolieres des Neiges. It was a beautiful drive with a view of the Alps , ending at the bottom of a ski hill. A busload of students enjoyed a day of sliding on the snow when we were there, but the skiing season had come to an end, as we didn't see any skiers, and the restaurant was boarded up.

We visited Grasse, St. Paul de Vence, Gourdon, St. Tropez, Cannes, Nice, and took the train to go to La Scala, in Milan, Italy. After each visit we were happy to be ""home" again. The peaceful environment in Riveloup is truly addictive.

On Saturdays, the organic farmer sells fresh vegetables, fruits and eggs. For visitors who bring their dogs to Riveloup, there is a large dog-run, just minutes from the guest house, in a park-like setting.

We would go back anytime and recommend Riveloup to anyone who looks for early spring and likes to be surrounded by nature and the lovely, gurgling sounds of the river Loup flowing around and over rocks at the end of the property.
