About the property

Holiday cottage within easy reach of Lansallos, Looe and Polperro.

The self-catering cottage constructed of local Cornish stone has two bedrooms, one with double bed, the other with two single beds. The cottage is located within a rural setting with valley views across towards Bodmin.

The cottage has a lounge/diner with patio doors leading to an extensive garden, a fully fitted kitchen (washing machine, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle) and a fully fitted walk in shower. The cottage also has storage facilities, TV (included within bedrooms and living room), extensive car parking and full central heating. Bedding and Linen are also provided.

Please note: The wood burning stove is no longer functional, so simply for cosmetic purposes.

Lansallos beach is approximately 0.75 miles away accessed by a footpath from the village of Lansallos. The fishing villages of Polperro (2 miles) and Looe (7 miles) are nearby while the popular town of Fowey is just four miles away across the Bodinnick Ferry and all easily accessible by car . The cottage is an excellent base to explore southern Cornwall and beyond by road and rail - with mainline railway stations at Liskeard (10 miles) and Lostwithiel (5 miles) being nearby. The rental week is from Saturday to Saturday arrivals from 3pm and departures are by 10.30am.

Beautifully positioned cottage near the coast

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our week in Higher Polgassic. It is in a lovely rural position but close to the SW Coast Path along the stunning south Cornish coast, and in easy reach of Looe, Polperro and Fowey as well as some of the county's major attractions such as the amazing but rather expensive Eden Project.

The cottage is generally well-presented and well-equipped. The upstairs bedroom has lovely views but very low ceilings (beware!). Downstairs has a comfortable bedroom, good shower room/toilet, rather narrow kitchen including small refrigerator and dishwasher, and a generous sitting/dining room. In short, perhaps not the perfect country cottage but with a great many good points and no major negatives, so it represents good value for money especially for early spring and late autumn.

We had a problem with the central heating and hot water during our stay, which our hosts the Gilham family could not have foreseen. They supplied electric heaters in the short term and worked hard to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

Our only disappointment was that the wood-burning stove visible in the photographs is not actually in use and we were told never has been. There might be good reasons but I doubt we are the only visitors to have been surprised by this, and it is the main reason I award four rather than five stars.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed your visit, but the log fire did control the water and heating (which we thought wasn't working to the standard we like for the cottage),we had full oil central heating installed and was advised that we could not have both working so we left the fire there for a show piece.

A Great Holiday

Sorry for the late, late review George!

We had a fabulous time at the cottage. Initially told it was available earlier than expected - sadly we had car trouble on A303 which made us very late.

Friendly welcome by George and family who couldn't have been more helpful in giving us information about the house and local area. Much to our delight, the field at the back had been extended to make a cricket and football pitch which pleased our two 10 year olds!!

The house itself was clean and fresh towels provided mid week are an added bonus. Having read the other reviews - there are a few flies (the house is in the countryside after all) but certainly not an issue and fly spray was provided. The only slight issue we had (this is very slight) was that after long days out in the glorious weather we had - the sofa wasnt the most comfortable. But as I said this is the only negative. The garden is secure for those who have younger children and it really is very peaceful - apart from the odd nosey sheep! Great for dinner outside at lunch or in the evening. And the shower is absolutely amazing!!

The nearest beach at Lansallos is a must for a visit, with crystal clear water and beautiful waterfall. NB the walk back up is tough so limited beach gear is my recommendation! We all loved the nearby village of Polperro - picture postcard scenery and giant, swimming lagoons which all children and adults will like. Local zoo is small but good value and for dodgy weather days there is a huge kids park with crazy golf, indoor play, dodgems and more 40 min drive away.

We had a great holiday - made better by the fabulous weather and the treatment received by the owners. They looked after our boys (and us) really well and they made their first proper holiday friend - something that we can all recall when we went on our family trips as kids.

Would 100% go back. Thanks for great summer holiday in 2016!

Superb cottage with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

Myself and my family had probably our best ever stay in cornwall in the beautiful Higher Polgassic cottage. The cottage was much larger than expected and the owners, George and Linda couldn't do enough to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. The cottage is light and airy and kept to a high standard with laundry changes midweek which was a pleasant surprise. George the owner even drove us into nearby polperro so that myself and my wife could both enjoy the evening with a glass or two of vino and he also picked us up later that evening.

The views from the cottage and surrounding area are beautiful and it is ideally located to explore all cornwall has to offer.

We loved it so much we even booked for same time next year.

Big thankyou to George and Linda for our wonderful stay.

It was a lot better than we thought it would be.

  • 4 of 5

Mr & Mrs Gilhan made us most welcome when we arrived. The cottage had all the facilities we needed,a lovely lounge, nice double bedroom down stairs,a kitchen with everything in including dishwasher, and a nice showerroom. Upstairs was another bedroom withi two single beds. The garden was kept immaculate and the vista was stunning. We enjoyed our stay and will proberbly go back again sometime the future.

Loverly cottage in a quiet area with great views

  • 4 of 5

Lovely cottage with a good sized garden for the kids to play in located in a quiet secluded area near Lansallos with great views plus hidden away about 3/4mile just past Lansallos was a nice secluded beach, a bit of a walk but well worth a look and a swim if its calm. Our lads also enjoyed having a TV in their room as doesn't happen at home. Once we had got use to the roads, has good access to Polperro which is a beautiful village, shame you have to pay parking at all times of day/evening so no good if only popping in for ten minutes as cheapest was £4 for 3 hours, but still worth a look. Looe is about 10 minutes away and has got everything there you could ask for and looks lovely in the evening with all the twinkly lights on and Fowey another nice village which you can get to by using the local ferry or driving to as ferry cost £4.60 each way, our lads preferred it as cut out some of the driving also some fine beaches around the area.

We found the Eden project well worth visiting and not far away from this location, Charlestown as seen in Poldark was also a nice port to visit with the Shipwreck heritage Centre being of interest, just past Lizkeard is a karting place which myself and my boys did our bit as the next Lewis Hamilton, very enjoyable and if you were feeling brave there was Zip wires across a quarry and all other sorts of high adrenalin activities to take part in.

George and Lynda were very welcoming and gave good advice about where to go, we also had a towel change mid week which was much appreciated and with broadband soon to be added, we will certainly look to come here again as there is so much to see in Cornwall and would definitely recommend to others.
