Daphne de Vries purchased this house in 1999
They both grew up in the area and have happy memories of the good times spent in Gordon's Bay during their youth. On returning to the Cape they settled in Gordon's Bay, their favourite town in the Helderberg, surrounded by mountains, the stunning views, safe bathing beaches and small town atmosphere.
The Cardamom House was bought on an auction because of its location. It started life as a rondavel and grew up into this unique house with its excellent position and the best sunsets you'd find anywhere to relax with a sundowner.
Location, location, location; a favourite phrase of estate agents. We built this wonderful home with it's unique architecture in one of the best locations in Gordon's Bay for it's stunning view and shelter from the South Easter wind. Close to everywhere you'd want to visit while in the Cape.
A beautiful house with a wonderful lookout. Daphne very friedly. Next holdays in south africa. We came again!!
our stay was part of a 3 week holiday touring South Africa the final 10 days being spent at Cardamom House in Gordons Bay. This is a very picturesque and unique house very well equiped and in a wonderful location. the views are superb and sundowners are wonderful on the balcony . Plenty of room and I cannot thing of anything that is missing. Highly recommended with only one drawback. This house is built on a steep slope and can only be accessed by using the many steps. People with limited mobility would have difficulty, in particular the steps down the side of the house are made of rough stone and are uneven making the trip up and down to the beach and local resturant needing care. This is the one and only critisism that can be made. A wonderful house
The property is exactly as shown in the photos. We found it hard to tear ourselves away from the stunning views over the harbour from the patios. We loved the drive along the stunning R44 coastal road with its beautiful beaches. The friendly owners and manager went out of their way to make sure our stay was perfect in every way.
We were lucky enough to stumble on this beautiful home on our recent trip to Cape Town.
What was supposed to be a week long stay turned into 6 weeks the moment we saw the house, I absolutely love the Earthy aesthetic of the home
With spiral staircases and stunning views of the harbor from the bright and warm balconies.
I appreciated the knowledge and advice of the hosts, they are good natured
down to earth people who really went the extra mile to make us feel at home.
The Cardamom House is truly unique and i would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a tasteful, homely atmosphere in Gordon's Bay.
WOW.....what a fantastic place to stay in. We were super excited when we first booked the house and knew it would be great. But when we arrived at Gordons Bay and our eyes caught the sight of the house it is difficult to describe our impression, simply beautiful.
The garden and the interior has so much soul and art details that we felt home instantly. The thought of spending our holiday here was just great!....and what a view from the porch(es).....
In addtion the location is is highly recommendable, 1 minute walk to Bikini Beach (not large but with quality), 10 minute walk to the second and much larger Beach (many restaurants /bistro's), 45 minute drive to Cape Town, 30 minute drive to the various wineyards (highly recommended!!!!!!!)
One thing is for sure, this was not our last time visiting this wonderful place.
Property exceeded all expectations for a holiday rental . Beautiful setting, spacious and tastefully decorated, with all home comforts included. A great base for exploring the unspoilt western cape. We enjoyed every moment of our stay and can highly recommend Cardamon house.
Gordon's Bay is perfectly situated to visit all the wonderful attractions Cape Town has to offer.
