About Sally Ann

Hello I have been living in Lanzarote for 11 years and have lovingly refurbished my home and the Casita. My passion is animals and rescue dogs and cats, I also own a horse and ride regularly. I am very spiritual which is why I created the Chinese Garden for meditation or relaxing, I have 6 dogs but they do not have access to the Casita {unless you want a cuddle, from the dogs that is}, if you want to take them for walks they will be your friends forever. I do speak Spanish and have an excellent knowledge of the Island so I can point you in the direction of places tourists do not visit. I am a quiet person and love the tranquility of the house and pool area, but I am happy to open up the house bar and have a drink and a chat if you like too, maybe you can bring out the party animal hiding inside with a few gin and tonics. Being semi retired and working from home I am at home a lot, I am also a medium and an artist my art work is evident in the garden, I like to paint things on the walls. Many of my guests have become firm friends and I hope to make a lot more. Namaste

Why Sally Ann chose Teguise

The Casita was built with love and care, the tranquility of the pool area is perfect to relax and get away from the bustle of life. To wake in a morning and stand to look out to sea or the volcano of Tahiche is worth its weight in gold. I love being away from the resort with privacy the country life but within easy access of civilization of you want it. To walk into the mountains behind the house with the dogs and just sit on a rock looking out to sea is the best tranquilizer on the market, in the evenings sitting on the terrace staring at the stars or relaxing in the Chinese Garden makes you connect with the universe. You have the peace here away from the tourist resorts but the resorts are there when you want them a short drive away that is what makes the Casita unique.

What makes this apartment unique

The views for sure, the tranquility and peace. the pool area and Chinese Garden so private not overlooked and perfect for naturists perfect for meditation and self reflection. The spiritual connections of Lanzarote and being close to the Lava fields the connection is strong it is a perfect retreat from life but with life on your doorstep.

Delightfully simple and simply delightful

We stayed at this casita late March 2017. We found it very much as described. Its location is 'rural' without being remote, easily within 5/10 minutes drive of all necessary amenities. The area is very quiet, no traffic or noise. Inevitably, as one would expect in such a location, there are a few dogs, but not that cause any disturbance. The views, at daytime, dusk and nighttime, reach far into the distance, enhancing the sense of tranquillity.

The property itself we found to be well equipped and comfortable with all the facilities we required. There is a potential issue with the absence of installed heating. Lanzarote is an all-year destination, but can be a bit chilly in the first three months of the year. The options facing a rental property owner in this situation are, to provide nothing and let the guests freeze, provide unrestricted heating that might be abused by guests who leave it running all day (even when out) and run up a huge energy bill, or provide a metered electricity supply to ensure guests pay for their consumption. A further option would be to provide unrestricted heating, but increase the rental charge all year, by a small amount, to cover the potential additional fuel costs in the winter months. Hopefully, all would be comfortable with this.

We stayed in most evenings and were very comfortable doing so. We both slept well and had no disturbance. On the days we did not go out, which were numerous, we spent a lot of time at the pool. This is the highlight of the property. The area is, even on quite windy days, very sheltered and something of a sun trap. It is ideal for sunbathing, reading, relaxing or meditating.

The pool itself is a reasonable size and heated via solar panels, so even in late march was warm enough for us softies. One word of caution though, I am about 5' 11" tall, and at the shallow end the water is up to my chest. Caution is therefore advised for shorter non-swimmers. I don't doubt that if we'd asked, Sally Ann, the owner, would have gladly lowered the water level to suit my non-swimming, 5' 1" wife, so accommodating did we find her to be.

We did not find her 'defensive' but eager to please and a bit anxious that she might be unfairly judged. She is conscious of the maintenance needs of the property and, by agreement did some minor jobs during our stay. Her desire for her guests to enjoy their stay is clear and any request is immediately responded to. We would have no hesitation in returning.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your lovely review. I am trying to find a solution to the heating problem for Jan Feb and some of March but after finding the heater put in the BATHROOM by some guests and left on all night causing condensation, I panicked on health and safety grounds and took it out, I am toying with the idea of screwing it to the wall in the living room to deal with the safety issue. It is available to hire and there are blankets available for chilly evenings which is in fact what I do myself in my own home due to the expense of electricity and gas here. Its a problem in hand as I understand that people from parts of Europe are used to central heating and find it chilly. I have had 2 weeks free of clients and took that opportunity to do the maintenance jobs which was mostly painting, it is looking fresh again, so difficult to do before due to back to back bookings, as I do not want to leave my guests with the smell of paint and varnish. It was so refreshing to have you both here clearly loving the area and my house, of which I am so proud, I sincerely hope you come back and stay again you will be most welcome. Slowly I am working on the gardens to make them even more relaxing and inviting, doing more artwork to make it more unique, everything takes time. Thank you for your patience with me, I do get anxious and nervous due to the head injury its a side effect, I only want people to be happy and enjoy their holiday and I know this can be misinterpreted by some. Dexter says hi... I was so happy he won your wife around considering her fear of dogs, I hope on your next visit I get a belly dancing lesson from her and more shopping trips together. hugs to you both

We chose this property because it was not surrounded by other apartments or villas whilst being close enough to enjoy the plentiful restaurants in Costa Teguise for eating out in the evenings.

However, the casita didn't meet up to our expectations. I did speak to the owner about our issues but she was quite defensive so reluctantly I said no more.

The property we felt was tatty and unloved.

Owner's Response: I am a little confused tbh, as your only comment to me on the one occasion you spoke to me at length, was that you were cold and could not dry your towels inside, that was more or less the last day before you left. Apart from that you never spoke to me except to answer that you were ok when I asked in passing if everything was ok, you both spoke to me pleasantly and I had no reason to think you were unhappy. I barely saw you because you were out all day, I am not sure how suggesting you use the pure wool merino blankets in an evening if you were chilly (the evenings can be chilly in January/February), and advise you to put your towels out in the sun on the clothes dryer to dry in the day or on the clothes dryer inside if it looked like rain, was defensive, I apologise that my answers were not good enough for you, I am not sure how else I could have assisted you. I am also very sorry you found the Casita not to your standards it is maintained regularly in fact only painted a few weeks before your stay, I do.need to get the doors painted inside but have not had a vacancy long enough to do this without leaving a smell of paint for the next guests. The furniture is fitting with a rustic property is all clean and in good condition, however it is a rustic country property not a modern apartment found in the main resorts.

The pool area is very private and ideal for naturists and only shared with myself. the resort of Mala and Papagayo beaches are also naturist. Spiritual services are available from Eco walks to Reike, massage and mediumship. Lanzarote is a very spiritual place because of the active volcano which is a must see Timanfaya National Park will take your breath away. Walking from the Casita directly into the mountains and the lava fields makes it ideal for hikers or cyclists.also within walking distance is the beautiful house of Cesar Manrique the famous artist who is responsible for the design of the island and why the majority of houses are painted white and no higher than 3 stories. The local tourist resort of Costa Teguise and the capital provide beautiful beaches and swimming about a 10 minute drive. 20 mins away is the resort of Puerto Del Carmen and Playa Honda with white sad beaches. Tahiche being more central means you have easy access to Famara and the North of the Island with its unspoilt coast line and views of La Graciosa. Famara with it long white beach for surfing is a 20 minute drive away here you find the fish restaurants and great tapas. The resort of Playa Blanca 40 minutes and the marina of Puerto Calero 30 minutes. Wifi
