About Harriet Morris
Having always loved the outdoors and everything the beautiful Lake District has to offer, we fell in love and chose Cartmel for a number of reasons. It really is a picture postcard English village and this 'thimble full of diamonds' whilst still steeped in history has become a fantastic foodie destination and whilst a great destination in its own right is superbly placed for exploring all of a The Lakes. Then there are the race days on what has been described as the prettiest racetrack in the UK. When we first stumbled on Maggie Puddle, we instantly fell in love with it. Two cute, cosy cottages that have been sympathetically restored and we hope you agree offer a real 'home from home.' We live locally and are on hand for any questions you may have at any point during your stay.

Beautiful, homely cottage!
I was looking for a cottage in the Lakes, for a short break with my family. We all needed a well deserved rest. After much searching, I stumbled upon Maggie Puddle Cottage (I love the name!) and, boy, was I glad I did! I instantly liked the cottage from the photos, and the reviews were great. The bonus for me was that my dogs were allowed to stay (I have two small Jack Russells). I went ahead and booked the cottage, and the process was nice and straightforward. The communication from the lovely owner, Harriet, was fantastic. She was very helpful!
When we arrived, I couldn't wait to get in and see the cottage; it looked so lovely in the photos. I have to say, I wasn't disappointed; it was exactly as described. I could instantly tell that a lot of thought had gone into the decoration and the finishing touches. It felt like a home. We were greeted with a welcoming gift of sunflowers, home-made brownies and a bottle of prosecco. It was so very thoughtful, and a nice start to our stay.
The cottage was clean, tidy and welcoming. The bedrooms are nicely finished. There are two well-appointed double bedrooms, and the third bedroom has a bunk bed, so it's perfect for children. There is a main bathroom upstairs, and a shower room downstairs. The living-dining room is a nice room, and very comfortable.
It rained, in typical British fashion, on our first full day, but we were happy to stay in and relax at the cottage. We found some DVDs and games in the cupboard, so this kept us occupied for a while! There were some pamphlets and guide books about the area and the various attractions, which was very helpful when it came to putting a plan together for the next couple of days.
The village of Cartmel is beautiful. It was just a few minutes walk to the nearest pub, and convenience store. Within a few more minutes you can walk to the main part of the village, where there are pubs, restaurants, gift shops, a cheese shop, brewery and café. There's also the village shop, which is the home of sticky toffee pudding - a must try! There were lots of ducks in the river running through the village. It was very picturesque!
It was no more than 30-40 minutes to get up to and explore the areas around Coniston and Windermere, so you don't have to spend hours in the car. The cottage is also a good base to explore further afield.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the cottage, and would love to return. Thank you Harriet and Richard for making us so welcome!
