Spacious Peak District Barn, has private garden with lovely views down the valley

Overview

Property

Updated: 22-Nov-2016

The Coach House at Gateham Grange is a converted barn on our working farm nr. Dovedale. The Manifold Cycle Trail is just down the road. Peaceful, dale walks. Stands next to the quaint old stone dovecote. Sleeps 2-6 persons in a double and family room. Having a toilet on both levels this barn suits guests with limited mobility as well as families. Spacious kitchen and comfortable lounge with large patio windows which catch the sun.

Gateham Grange nestles at the foot of Wetton Hill and is between Alstonefield, Wetton and Hulme End (each about 1.5 miles away), all having lovely pubs serving good food.

Being located on the Derbyshire/Staffordshire border the list of nearby attractions is endless! Busy Hartington, historic Chatsworth and thrill seeking Alton Towers are close by. There's rock climbing at the Roaches, water sports at Carsington Water and nearby fishing, golf and horseriding.

During your stay challenge yourself to climb to the top of Wetton Hill. Standing at 1300ft above sea level you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Peak District in all its glory.

Perfectly relaxing.

Well presented and well equipped property in a super location. Locally there is plenty to see and great places to eat, lots of dog friendly places too.

Beautiful, lovely spot in the middle of sheeps

  • 4 of 5

This property has everything you need. It has a beautiful sight on a big green hill. You can visit the farm with its sheep, cows, hens and cocks. The farmer is very willing to show it to children. There is no Wifi and barely any Internet which really brings you to rest, but for us a reason to give it four instead of five stars.

The owners of the house are very friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our stay.

Lovely cosy cottage, beautiful location, secluded garden for alfresco dinners andfriendly owners

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful weekend away. The coach house is a perfect base for exploring the area. It has everything you need to feel at home. Teresa made us feel very welcome upon arrival and departure.

The enclosed garden behind the coach house is the perfect spot for enjoying Hartington cheese, bread and wine whilst watching the sun go down and the bats and owls come out.

We'll be back...

Ideal place to stay and get away from the hustle and bustle.

  • 5 of 5

The Coach House at Gateham Grange, Alstonefield is such a lovely place to stay. As two married couples, and pensioners, we can be a little picky about where we stay, as we know what we expect to find. No problems here - our expectations were definitely exceeded.

The welcome we received was unexpected. Six fresh bantam eggs as well as fresh flowers were there on the dining table. Everything we needed, and more, was available in the kitchen, so we were very optimistic as we explored the rest of the cottage. No disappointments there either.

Everything was just as described on the website. The reception from the Flower family could not have been better. All three were prepared to chat about their farm and this made a big difference to us. We felt welcome and not an inconvenience on their working farm. Even their bull was so docile we thought it was actually a pet. Life on the farm appeared to be like a silent movie as work was taking place. We could see it all but there was so little noise we could relax in a quiet atmosphere.

As a base to explore from it is ideally situated, and we had no problem driving to the towns and attractions in the Peak District. The weather was also very kind to us. Even when using the washing machine and iron during the week we were surprised just how little it cost for electricity.

When can we visit again? It will certainly be on our wish list for next year.

A perfect family get away

  • 5 of 5

We wanted a long weekend away from the hustle and bustle of daily life, and this place hit the spot! The lack of wifi was perfect for us to take time as a family, and not be interrupted by the usual barrage of emails.

Teresa and family couldn't have been any more helpful. Location is great, and although it was freezing outside the heating in the house meant the kids were toasty, and not moaning at us.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind review and we hope to see you again soon. Yes, the weather was very cold and I am pleased the cottage was plenty warm enough for you. Teresa

Lovely Converted Barn; Beautiful Surroundings.

  • 5 of 5

Teresa was very accommodating, and the cottage was in great order when we arrived. We spend most of the time walking, drinking whisky, and getting to know the local pubs. I can wholly recommend the Royal Oak in Wetton - lovely people and a fantastic local IPA! I'm sure I'll be back this this lovely place!
