Luxurious Art Deco 1 Bed Apartment in Edinburgh City Centre

Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Dec-2016
Only 5 minutes walk to Princes Street with view of the castle.

Hopetoun Suite is named after the Hopetoun Basin, originally the end of the Union Canal. The basin was drained in 1922 and in 1935 Lothian House was built on the site as offices for the Inland Revenue. It was converted into apartments in 1985.

Completely refurbished in 2015 in the Art Deco style to match the Grade B listed Lothian House, the apartment consists of: A double bedroom with King size bed, large built in wardrobe and smart TV; A bathroom with an electric shower over the bath; A lounge with a double sofa bed and further seating for another 2 people, a TV with smart Blu-Ray player, Bluetooth hi-fi and wireless internet access. The dining area has plenty of space for 4 to eat in comfort whilst the fully equipped kitchen has a halogen hob, electric fan oven, microwave oven, fridge with ice-compartment, dishwasher, coffee machine, kettle and toaster. There is also a washer-dryer located in the walk-in cupboard off the hall.

Hopetoun Suite is in a quiet residential building and, as such, it is not suitable for stag/hen parties or similar groups. Check-in is from 5pm Monday - Friday and from 4pm Saturday and Sunday. Check-out is by 10am. Other times may be available on request.

A wonderful flat in a not-so quiet neighbourhood

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at the flat during the 2016 Halloween weekend. Kirsty and Peter were very nice and welcoming indeed and perfect hosts, thanks very much for that! The flat itself is beautifully decorated and provides everything you need. It is very conveniently located, Princess Street and Edinburgh Castle are in walking distance. You’ll find good opportunities to shop for food, to eat out or to go to see a film in the immediate vicinity. This is wonderful and all worth the five star ratings that were posted by previous guests. If the flat were located in a quieter neighbourhood, we would have also rated accordingly.

Unfortunately, though, Lothian Road proved to be a very busy road with lots of traffic. We should have been aware of this by looking at the map more closely beforehand, but we did not. In addition, this area is obviously very popular with people who love partying (or was it because of Halloween?). In any case, there was a lot of shouting and ruckus during Friday and Saturday night, right into the small hours of the morning, and that put a serious damper on things.

To cut a long story short: If you are a sound sleeper, do choose the flat by all means, it is very good indeed.

Perfect in Every Way

  • 5 of 5

The 2 of us recently enjoyed a stay in this beautifully appointed flat when we traveled to Edinburgh, both for business and to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The property is very centrally located with everything we wished within an easy walk. With a beautiful view of Edinburgh Castle from the front windows, you are right on the edge of Old Town Edinburgh. Transit is efficient and easy to navigate and is right at the door, if you wish to venture further afield. The flat itself is clean and comfortable and contains everything one could need and more. Our hosts were exceptionally helpful, having left a booklet containing instructions for the use of all appliances and information about the neighbourhood. We also found descriptions of the many interesting historic photos and posters which adorn the walls. They went out of their way to check with us after we'd settled in to ensure that we were comfortable. We would recommend this flat to anyone who might be traveling to Edinburgh, and indeed we spent much time whilst there telling international colleagues how amazing our accommodations were. Kirsty and Peter, thank you so very much for a completely enjoyable stay.

5 star comfort

  • 5 of 5

This apartment is so beautiful, clean and comfortable we had to tear ourselves away to enjoy all that Edinburgh had to offer. It is beautifully presented and there is everything you could wish for, a home from home. The decor is perfect, big fluffy towels, great shower, lovely kitchen with everything you need.

The are is so handy for exploring Edinburgh with lots of local shops and restaurants. It's very handy for Haymarket railway station and very easy to find. We had the most wonderful time visiting the fringe festival and would definitely consider booking to stay here again.

Lovely very well appointed apartment in central location.

Great place to stay, beautifully decorated and appointed. The apartment was spotlessly clean and the owners had thoughtfully left milk, tea, coffee and shortbread for us. Easy walk into Edinburgh and lots of places to eat nearby plus a couple of local supermarkets.

As good as it gets!!

  • 5 of 5

My family of three stayed here for a four days in June for my daughter graduation activities from University of Edinburgh. Kirsty was very easy to work with prior to our arrival, and she checked in via email during our stay to make sure everything was fine. I couldn't more enthusiastically endorse this condo as the perfect get-away spot! It is wonderfully furnished and incredibly tranquil. The flat is clean and incredibly well-maintained. The kitchen is well-furnished and provided a source for multiple great meals and gatherings. The location is absolutely perfect for our graduation ceremony. Thanks so much to Kirsty & Peter for making this an easy, relaxing and enjoyable time!!

Facilities

From the Owner

Lothian House boasts an entrance from the street which will bring you back to the 1930s - the element which inspired us to reflect the era in our own apartment. The apartment itself has a homely feel with the log fire (electric) and hearth giving a warm heart to the property. The very large windows pull in a wonderful brightness from outside and act as a stage for a view to the castle you will benefit from every day, but especially the nights of the fireworks during the Festivals in summer and Hogmanay (New Year's Eve). The well stocked, smart looking kitchen has everything you need for your stay and the bedroom offers luxury every visitor deserves. All in all, the apartment can't fail to impress with something to offer couples, tourists, city breaks, business trips and more.
