About George

We are a local family that has lived in Broad Haven for over 30 years.

We love the clean sandy beaches that Pembrokeshire has to offer as well as the country side walks with the dog.

Our family is well known in the community with Father and son on local coastguard and RNLI crews.

George purchased this cottage in 2012

Why George chose Broad Haven

Vilu Reef is in a perfect setting, just on the edge of the village of Broad Haven. Its close enough but far enough away if you fancy just a quiet day relaxing in the sunshine.

Vilu Reef is set in a quiet location with rolling fields to one side and trees to another . There is a special feeling to the surroundings.

What makes this cottage unique

There are outstanding sea views from the living area.

Holiday in Wales

Central heating boiler running day and night disturbed sleep in bed so big had to walk like a crab to get in or out.

Every thing else was fine.

Absolutely fantastic,

  • 5 of 5

This is a beautiful cottage with everything that you could possible need and more, even an umbrella. Exceptionally clean, bed very comfy, fantastic views and the extra touch's of the wine, milk, cake, tea bags sugar coffee were a lovely thought. The hosts were really friendly, we left a day early as the weather forecast for Monday was not good and we had quite a long drive. The weather whilst we were there was better than we thought no rain! plenty of things to see and do. We cannot rate this place high enough and recommend 200% you will not be disappointed.

Wow. Like home from home now. Just gorgeous

  • 5 of 5

We loved returning and looked forward to seeing Sue and Roger again. Vilu Reef was just as we remembered, clean, well equipped, comfortable, light and airy and now has the benefit of opening patio doors so you can appreciate the stunning view. The garden is a joy and we would have loved to sit out and enjoy it more but either the weather was not accommodating or we were at the beach, enjoying the odd day of sun. We wish we lived nearer and could visit more often, and have regular chats with Sue and Roger. We will definitely return.

Home sweet (second) home!

  • 5 of 5

Having had the pleasure of spending three weeks in Broad Haven we can highly recommend Vilu Reef cottage that has become some sort of second home during our stay.

During our holiday planning George was very kind keeping the cottage available after we had been let down by “flybe” and had to change for Bristol Airport as well as our day of arrival and departure (Sunday instead of Saturday) . So thanks to George’s kind support the planning and booking process went very smoothly. Finding Vilu Reef cottage was no problem at all.

Upon our arrival we found what the photos in the internet had promised: a very cosy and clean modern cottage with a small garden and wonderful views across St. Brides Bay from the upper floor. In the well equipped kitchen the fridge revealed a nice welcome present (welsh cakes and a bottle of wine).

On site we met George’s parents – Sue and Roger – who gave us a warm welcome and during our whole stay were lovely hosts.

Vilu Reef being situated almost at the end of a quiet lane (Trafalgar Terrace approximately 50 metres behind the Old Coastguard Station ), it is a 3 minutes’ walk down the hill to the beach and the village shop which is next to the Galleon Pub. At low tide it is 5 more minutes to walk across the beach to reach Little Haven where there are three pubs to enjoy a meal (we recommend the St. Brides Inn; the fish and chips at the Castle was ok). At Broad Haven, the Galleon Pub also proved a nice place to spend the evening and to have a good meal (whereas the food at the Ocean Restaurant was disappointing).

Broad Haven is a good place to start coastal walks and journeys across Pembrokeshire. The Dale Peninsula and Marloes are nearby; so are St. Davids (go to the Cwtch for an early evening diner!) and its peninsula as well as the southern coast in and around Manorbier (Barafundle Bay, Stackpole [enjoy a meal at the Stackpole Inn!], Tenby …). We even did a day trip to wonderful Powis Castle near Welshpool. Apart from that we fell for Maria’s cooking skills at Picton Castle restaurant (Friday evening from 6 to 8 pm is Tapas’ night!).

Wherever we went, when returning in the evening we were welcomed by the cosy Vilu Reef cottage – a place worth staying!
