About Christina Lane

We are a professional couple who moved to France with a young family to live the French way of life. We have spent 10 years lovingly restoring and enhancing this beautiful property. We have 2 teenage daughters and a young French born son. We are still learning everyday and enjoying the culture this area has to offer and look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful region.

Christina Lane purchased this chateau / country house in 2007

Why Christina Lane chose Lot-et-Garonne

Historic property in a 14th century Bastide town. Originally built for a famous Parisian Artist in the early 1800's, the house has wonderful 4 metre high ceilings with original plaster work, marble fireplaces and a "Scarlet O'Hara" staircase.

The house has been renovated with a beautiful hand made kitchen.a large heated pool and a huge covered terrace.

It has a garden of nearly 2000sq metres, unheard of for a Bastide house, and is barely overlooked for almost complete privacy.

The town, despite its size, has the amenities and services of a town 4 times its size and it is very safe. With so much going on in the town during the summer it is a perfect place to holiday with your family.

What makes this chateau / country house unique

The property is huge 660 sq metres of living space. We have had over 20 people staying in the house but you still get lost in it. The rooms are the size of a small house in the UK. But it never feels too big. It is cool in the hot summer.

Perfectly located within the bastide with a cafe bar & boulangerie across the road and supermarket within 2 minutes walk.

Perfect for teenagers to explore or families to go to the one of many restaurants in the town.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Lane family,

We would like to say the biggest thank you to you all for mking our stay so wonderful. Although the temperatures hit 40 degrees the wonderful pool & fab cool terrace made it so pleasant & bearable. The house is such a gem,big enough to fit our large family comfortably and just so perfectly located with bars & restaurants on the doorstep. The lovely welcome basket was very much appreciated, never had one like it before. Thank you for making a "big birthday" celebration so amazing,we will be back.

A French Bastide town with lots of amenities and things to do throughout the Summer months.

Miramont has a hyper market and numerous supermarkets and smaller shops with 24hr petrol stations. There are butchers, bakers, tabacs, banks, doctors, dentists and a post office.

The centre of the town is newly renovated and the many events that are held in the town, spill from the centre down the side streets. A number of circuses and amusements come to town throughout the summer and bicycle races are held along the boulevard.

The area is famous for its orchards, vineyards and sunflower fields – a perfect place to explore by car, foot or bike. Night markets are held in Miramont and the surrounding villages, selling local produce but these are also an opportunity for all the villagers and tourists to get together, eat local produce cooked on site, drink the local wines purchased from the market vendors and enjoy musical entertainment throughout the evening.

There are many fetes and wine fairs in other local towns which again provide great opportunities to eat, drink, dance and soak up the unique atmosphere and French hospitality. During the summer months, there are many Festivals and Fetes in the surrounding areas. For example on the first weekend in August, there is the famous Miramont Bastide D'Art street festival with its professional circus acts and street performers. Music lovers, on the first weekend of July, will enjoy the Monsegur Jazz Festival which takes place 15 minutes drive away.

Miramont has a picturesque fishing lake and many sports facilities including soccer, rugby, tennis, basketball, badminton and handball, also in July and August horse riding, canoeing, biking and tree top activities. Within 5 minutes walk there is a sparkling clean municipal pool centre which has 3 pools for all ages with table tennis tables and a sweet shop.

In the surrounding area

Duras and Eymet are close by. There are lots of beautiful Bastide towns, all with colourful markets (Miramont has one of the largest and best in the area), one to fill every day of the week, and all within an hours drive. 35 minutes drive will get you into the gorgeous old town of Bergerac and a 1½ hours to the elegant City of Bordeaux.

The house is situated perfectly to sample the gastronomic pleasures of the region and to soak up the history of the many chateaux, historic towns and wine tours (St Emillion - the world heritage site is 50 minutes away).

There are also many interesting and beautiful places for day trips or if you are house-hunting this is an ideal spot from which to explore. Other activities close by include, golf (at one of the best courses in France 20 mins away), fishing, hot air Ballooning July and August, cycling and numerous swimming lakes. There is a water park, bowling alley and karting in Bergerac - 35 minutes away - and the larger Walibi is 1 hour away.

There is also a lovely swimming lake with beach and water activities within an easy 20 minute drive. The beach at Arcachon can be reached in just over 1½ hrs by car and is well worth the trip. The Dune du Pyla is a 'must see' if you are going to the coast.

There are many golf courses around the area. The fantastic Chateau des Vigiers Golf and Country Club, with restaurant and Beauty Spa, is a 20 minute drive away. This top end famous 18 hole course was created by Donald Steel. The Chateau dates back to 1597 and are set in 450 acres of beautiful countryside. Golf de Barthe a lovely 9 hole course is situated in Tombobouef approximately 10 mins drive away. There are also several other courses in the area for you to try.

Miramont de Guyenne and its surrounding area host a number of cultural festivals and events throughout the year. The dates may change, so it’s best to check the exact dates before you make your travel plans.
