About the property

Contemporary space in peaceful setting, a scenic 10-minute walk into St Ives.

Argel is the Cornish word for sanctuary and this is what we have created in the wooded area above St Ives known as Treloyhan. This is an area full of mature trees and natural beauty 10-15 minutes walk along the scenic coast path to St Ives’ stunning Porthminster Beach and the town. There is ample private parking right outside your entrance and the property is easy to find. The property provides a wonderful location for couples or singles who want to be close to St Ives but away from the busyness of the town centre (St Ives is internationally known and between late spring and late summer becomes extremely busy). It is ideal for walkers being set close to the scenic coast path or guests who simply need to relax and put down their busy lives for a bit.

Please note the property has been set up for couples or single people and is not suitable or available to guests with children or pets. The property is also strictly non-smoking and we do not accept guests under 21 years of age.

Short breaks (minimum 3 nights are accepted at certain times of the year, please ask).

The apartment adjoins the owner’s large detached 1930s family home giving guests the benefit of a stay with complete privacy but with the security of knowing assistance in any way is close at hand. The owners are very knowledgeable about St Ives and the surrounding area and are happy to offer advice and suggestions for your visit. Great attention has been paid to guests having a good night’s sleep. The bedroom has a king size bed made up with 5* hotel quality bedding (pure Egyptian cotton) and guests can gaze at the sea without getting up or recline in comfortable armchairs next to the large French windows and enjoy views over the owner’s rambling garden towards the sea. The bedroom also has a TV and DVD player with selection of films, wall mounted ironing board and iron, wardrobe, dressing table, hair dryer and other built in storage for guest’s belongings. There is a large, luxurious shower room (plus large top quality fluffy towels) with underfloor heating and power shower, ideal at the end of a day at the beach or a long walk. The kitchen/living room is compact and bijou, beautifully equipped, with very comfortable leather sofa, books, TV, small table and 2 chairs and a kitchen area containing electric oven and ceramic hob, microwave, fridge with freezer compartment, dishwasher and good quality cookware. There are plenty of hooks to hang coats on and a boot rack. Please note there are no laundry facilities at the apartment. The decor is simple, contemporary and elegant. Free wi fi.

COMING SOON: Secure cycle lock up facility next to the apartment. Argel is in a wonderful spot to explore West Cornwall by bicycle. This year we will be introducing a secure cycle store for our guests. PLEASE NOTE: David Frost is an experienced road and off-road cyclist and can advise on great routes to take around the area.

The property is very well placed for guests at wedding parties being held at Tregenna Castle Hotel, St Ives Harbour Hotel and Carbis Bay Hotel being a 10-minute stroll to each venue. Tesco, the food store, is a very short drive away and is also an easy walk. The Cornish Arms, a traditional Cornish pub is 100 metres up the road and the renowned Porthminster Cafe, situated on Porthminster Beach is a 10-15 minute stroll down the coast path. The main town centre of St Ives with all its restaurants, bars, cafes, galleries and shops is no more than a mile away and the walk in from here along the coast path is stunning. A bus stop with regular links into St Ives and other areas of Cornwall is 50 metres away. Changeover day is generally Friday to Friday on 7 night bookings in the main season but we try to be flexible and will try and work with dates to suit you.

About Sarah Frost

I moved to St Ives with my 2 children and husband in 2012 and we love it here. For several years we lived in a lovely town house in the centre of the town but moved to beautiful Treloyhan, a wooded area, above St Ives town, last summer. We were lured by the majestic trees, the challenge of renovating a lovely but neglected house and garden and also the perk of a studio for me. I'm a fine art photographer and you will see my work hanging in Bodanna Argel, the apartment we have created adjoining our family home. David was a civil engineer but now spends his time developing properties and growing vegetables at our allotment. This is a lovely area and we hope you will love it as much as we do.

Why Sarah Frost chose St Ives area

Our property stands in wooded grounds which were once part of the estate of St Ives shipping magnate, Sir Edwain Hain whose home was originally the nearby Treloyhan Manor Hotel. We can see the ever changing light which bounces off the sea but our view is also full of trees and greenery. The main house is rambling, full of character and is a warm, family home without being ostentatious. It will take some years for us to make the changes needed. Creating Bodanna Argel as its own self contained apartment has been a great pleasure. We wanted a house which would serve us as a family but also allow a special, private space for guests wishing to holiday close to St Ives. This house was perfect.

What makes this apartment unique

Treloyhan is a high-class residential area, just a mile from St Ives town centre, with detached properties, lots of trees, lovely views to the sea and space for parking. It is relaxed and easily accessible being just off the main route into St Ives. We love being close to so many wonderful things but being immensely private and very peaceful within our own wooded grounds. We think guests will really appreciate these things too. COMING SOON in 2017: Secure cycle store for guests. This is a brilliant spot to be based if you wish to explore West Cornwall by bicycle. David Frost is an experienced road and off-road cyclist who can advise on great routes to take in the wonderful scenery. Please enquire if you are interested.

This location is unique. Treloyhan, is a peaceful, prestigious, residential area, situated a short walk along the coast path into the hustle and bustle of St Ives. Set in trees, with easy parking, our guests relish the tranquil setting and proximity, not just to St Ives but easy car or bus access to West Cornwall as a whole. It’s easy to park but only a 10-15 minute walk into the town centre.

We are situated just a short walk from the Tregenna Castle Hotel which has 40-acres of stunning grounds and a scenic 9-hole golf course with panoramic views of St Ives, as well as excellent brasserie, and facilities open to non-guests such as an indoor and outdoor pool, spa, gym, badminton and tennis courts. Carbis Bay Hotel Spa is a 10-minute walk away and on Carbis Bay Beach Ocean Sports hire out stand up paddle boards and kayaks. They also run coasteering sessions. The St Ives Harbour and Hotel is also 10-minutes away which has a luxury spa and restaurant open to non-guests. Those wishing to hire a boat or go on a fishing or sightseeing trip will find such activities available in the harbour of St Ives. Porthmeor beach also has a surf school which runs throughout the summer for those wishing to try surfing. The leisure centre is a short drive away which has a good size swimming pool, well equipped gym and wide variety of exercise classes available.

stylish apartment in good location

well equipped, modern and comfortable apartment, made all the better by thoughtful extras in the fridge and cupboards. Peaceful spot but not far from town and beaches and easy to reach further afield attractions. Not spacious but more than adequate for two adults, only improvement for the summer months would be a small outside area to sit/eat and enjoy the view.

Beautifully presented and fully equipped.

A lovely studio cottage just above Carbis Bay and a short walk into St Ives. The view from the bedroom is great with a mature garden full of birds and squirrels and sea views across the bay. The Cornish Costal Path runs very close by and inland we found lots of walks. St Ives is full of small and very good bistros and restaurants, we ate out almost every night and did not have a bad meal. The nearby Cornish Alms is a cosy friendly pub with good basic pub food. Our host Sarah made us welcome with loads of goodies when we arrived such as wine, milk, biscuits, tea, coffee, jam, scones, clotted cream, flowers etc and checked that we had everything we needed during the week.

Great location and apartment

Loved the location as felt like we were out of the way from the hustle and bustle but yet under a 15 min lovely coastal walk into the centre of St ives. Great base for exploring other parts of Cornwall too. Can recommend godrevy beach, kynance cove and lizard point. View out of the bedroom window was lovely...the photos don't do it justice. Will be back again.

Fabulous!

This property is a beautiful peaceful haven for the ideal getaway for two. So welcoming. Clean, warm, fully equipped, and a stunning view from the bedroom window, where you can relax in comfortable rattan chairs with a cuppa.

Within walking distance of St. Ives one way and Carbis Bay the other. Both North and South coast are not far to travel.

We highly recommend this property.

A hidden gem with real attention to detail

Unlike the weather Sarah's apartment is fabulous,everything we could have needed and more was there for the use of. Sarah and David should be very proud of there property that is Argel a lovely quiet position yet only ten minutes walk from the centre of st Ives, we would highly recommend the property and most definitely revisit in the very near future. Lovely and peaceful,you almost feel you are in the middle of the woods.

Refundable Damage Deposit £100

Changeover days and dates can be flexible at times, so please ask if you want a week’s stay which is not a Friday to Friday, if I can, I will try to make your ideal dates work. For bookings made within 6 weeks of your holiday start date please pay the full amount plus security deposit on booking. For bookings made more than 6 weeks before your holiday start date, please provide a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the rental cost on your booking. The balance plus the security deposit is then due 6 weeks prior to the holiday start date. Upon payment of the deposit and subject to the acceptance of the booking, the hirer becomes liable for the balance 6 weeks before the holiday start date. If the balance is not received by the due date the owner reserves the right to cancel the booking and retain the deposit. Cancellation must be received in writing at least 28 days before the start of the holiday. The owner will endeavour to re-let the property and if successful will refund any monies (less 25% non-refundable deposit). If the property is not re-let for any reason the original hirer is liable for the whole of the rental amount. If the booking is cancelled less than 28 days from the start date the hirer will remain legally liable to pay the full balance. We reserve the right to refuse bookings from any parties we deem to be unacceptable or inappropriate.
