A Pretty Stone cottage, ideal for visiting Derbyshire Dales/White Peak area

Overview

Property

Updated: 07-Dec-2016
2 bedrooms, shower room, fitted kitchen, in a quiet location, with garden

Oxspring Cottage, sits on the hillside in the conservation area of Bolehill, a small hamlet overlooking Wirksworth. Its pretty enclosed garden has a patio and garden seats, the perfect place to sit and relax. It is about 10 minutes walk to the High Peak Trail for walking and cycling. A walk along the footpath through meadows will bring you into Wirksworth, a market town with interesting architecture, restaurants, unusual shops, and pubs. The cottage is 2 bedroomed with modern shower room and fitted kitchen, suitable for 3 adults and there is a trundle bed also in the small bedroom for a child.

Enjoy a perfect break with lovely walks from the doorstep or venture further afield by cycle or car. The walk down the High Peak Trail towards the Cromford Canal is pleasant and on limited days one can take a ride on the pretty barge. The National Stone Centre, Middleton Top (cycle hire) and Steeple Grange Light Railway are close by, as is Carsington Water for watersports activities, a visitor centre, birdwatching, walking, cycling and a restaurant. The situation of the cottage makes it easy to reach the White and Dark Peak areas as well as its own Derbyshire Dales. Roadside parking nearby on a no through road and in a nearby free car park. As there are a few steps down to property, this may not be suitable for the less able.

About the Owner

We purchased the cottage as a bolt hole from the stress of work and came to realise how lovely the area is around. There is so much to do and even the Dark Peak area with its moorlands is a short drive away. We are new to this holiday letting site, but we know from past lettings that most people enjoy staying in the area and often return.

Clean comfortable and homely cottage.Very well presented and equipped with a lovely garden.

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was exactly as described online, with quality furnishings and a great range of kitchen equipment. It had been sympathetically updated with lots of homely finishing touches, and a very comfortable double bed. There was lots of information in the cottage about the local area and walks. We enjoyed visiting Arkwrights mill at Cromford, and several walks including the Tissington Trail, especially stopping off at Tissington village which had a lovely retro shop, candle maker and coffee shop, not to mention the hall which was closed to the public but was hosting a a lovely wedding (by the look of the arriving guests). Bakwell was a very pretty place with nice shops to browse, and a pleasant river walk. This was our first visit to the area but the scenery was beautiful, everything was close to the cottage and we met some very helpful and friendly people. The booking was very easy to make and all the information from Gill was clear. We would like to come back sometime as there are lots more walks to do and things to see.

Clean, quiet and well-equipped

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous time in this cottage. It was well-equipped with everything we needed and so lovely and peaceful at night. No seagulls to wake us up! Located in an excellent position to explore the beauty around. We enjoyed Lumsdale Valley with its waterfalls and Dovedale. Also worth visiting was Bakewell and Matlock Bath for pretty towns. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return
