About Amber

This is a picture of us in one of many local pubs. We also live in Goosey so we're close by to help! We have 3 children, couple of ponies, dogs, cat and chickens. Marcus is a racing journalist and I (Amber) look after Longacre and I'm a full time Mum etc.

Amber Armytage, who runs Longacre, is a mother of three and lives just across the green.

A Bit of Background

After four years in the Maritime department at Christie’s in London, Amber worked in France before coming back to work for a London-based interior design company called Beaumont & Fletcher. Then, after moving to Goosey, she set up her own interior decorating business, much in demand after the summer floods of 2007. She combined this with bringing up her three children.

She is married to the Daily Telegraph racing correspondent, Marcus, who is the last amateur jockey to win the Grand National and holds the course record time.

light versatile house

  • 5 of 5

We stayed, 12 of us, comfortably at Longacre and enjoyed its many versatile spaces. We loved the open fire and comfy sofas, the big kitchen, the outdoor space and the warm welcome from Amber. We could have done with a footpath map as we got lost trying to get to the pub over the fields. We had lovely trips out to the Uffington White Horse and into Oxford, but mainly we just enjoyed relaxing in this lovely house and garden. Many thanks!

Really lovely home.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect home for group gatherings. Worked really well having the two lounges, especially with the children who used one and the grownups were in the other. Brilliant big kitchen too. Bedrooms are all spacious and really comfortable

Our accomodation needs were met in full

  • 5 of 5

Excellent. It was just what we needed for a family birthday celebration with eleven adults and three children. The owner was fully responsive to a question or two that we had. The summerhouse with pool tables was a fun retreat. I would definitely recommend the property.

Perfect for our large group of friends and teenagers

  • 5 of 5

We received a warm welcome from Amber and it was clear she wanted our stay to be a happy one, which it was! Rural location with fabulous large garden, complete with garden furniture, was perfect for our October mini break. 2 sitting rooms were ideal for teenagers and adults, with mini pool table adding fun entertainment. This lovely house does accommodate 16 in respect of beds - teenage siblings shared a double bed which was fine with benefit of own en-suite bathroom, and other 2 teenage boys were in large summer house with extra z-bed - needless to say that they were very happy with own space! We live in the north - if looking for accommodation near Oxford again, we would love to come back.

Our perfect weekend.

  • 5 of 5

You walk into some houses and they immediately feel like home. Longacre is one of these places. Twelve of us were on a family get together to celebrate our Golden Wedding anniversary. We could not have selected a better venue. Our party consisted of ages 2 to 76 and we really enjoyed every aspect of Longacre and the area. Our six year old granddaughter cried when we had to leave displaying all of our sentiments. Many thanks to Amber she could not have been more helpful. We had an exceptional Sunday lunch at The Eagle Tavern at Little Coxwell.

Lovely place for a family gathering

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely time at Longacre for a long weekend celebrating our Ruby Wedding. The house suited us perfectly as a family group of 8 adults, 5 children and a baby. Everything was well provided for and the house had a friendly, comfortable feel to it. Amber was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The children loved playing with the toys and in the garden. We all had great fun with the badminton and croquet. It was lovely to have 2 sitting rooms, for the adults and children! Goosey is a very quiet, peaceful place but with good local links. Highly recommended!

Location

Car: necessary

An ideal holiday let in Oxfordshire

Longacre is the perfect place for a family and friends get together. It is close to the Uffington White Horse, the Ridgeway, the Cotswolds, the upper reaches of the Thames. All this and only 80 miles from central London. The Roman towns of Cirencester, Bath and Cheltenham are all within an hour.

Only 20 minutes from Oxford

Not so long ago there were seven working farms located around the green and although the dairy cows which once roamed it are no longer there it remains very rural. It has easy access to Oxford (20 minutes) and the smaller market towns of Wantage and Faringdon (10 minutes) while Stanford-in-the-Vale is even closer. See more information in the Local Area page.

Goosey

Goosey is in the middle of what is known locally as the Vale of the White Horse, an area to the north of the racing centre of Lambourn, its surrounding downland and the Ridgeway, the ancient track which runs 87 miles from Ivinghoe Beacon in Buckinghamshire to Avebury in Wiltshire. This national trail is popular with walkers, runners, riders and off-road cyclists.

Oxford

The county capital Oxford, “the city of dreaming spires” is only 20 minutes away. It boasts numerous theatres, museums, historic university buildings, a covered market and activities such as punting on the river Cherwell.

Woodstock

Five miles west of Oxford is Blenheim Palace in the small Cotswold town of Woodstock, a stunning home given to the 1st Duke of Marlborough by the nation after his victory in the battle of Blenheim 1704. It was also the birth place of Sir Winston Churchill and he is buried in the next door village.

Bampton

Bampton is a village just north of the Thames. It is best known for the church scenes in Downton Abbey though the locals play it down. Highclere Castle, where the bulk of the series is filmed is half an hour away.

The Cotswold Wildlife Park

The Cotswold Wildlife Park, particularly popular with children is 25 minutes away by the stunning historical town of Burford (My Grandparents went there on honeymoon).

Lambourn

Lambourn houses over 1000 racehorses and is characterised by large areas of open grassland gallops. The 2015 Grand National winner Many Clouds is trained there as well as the highest rated chasers of modern times Sprinter Sacre, whilst the winner of the Cheltenham Gold Cup 2015 is trained in the next door village, Letcombe Bassett.

Bicester

If you enjoy a little retail therapy there’s Bicester Village half an hour away.

Giffords

During the summer Giffords a magical village green circus, tours much of the locality, I couldn’t recommend it highly enough is you’re staying for any length of time but book early to avoid disappointment.

Wantage

Wantage is small market town (5 miles from Goosey), which has a market every Wednesday and Saturday and other supermarkets and shops. It’s where King Alfred (849) and Lester Piggott (widely regarded as one of the greatest flat racing jockeys of all time) were both born. A statue of King Alfred stands in the centre of the market square - there is not one of Lester yet....

Faringdon

Faringdon is also a small market town (4 miles from Goosey). Faringdon stands on a hill overlooking the Thames. The Folly, a prominent tower, can be seen for miles around particularly at Christmas when it is lit up. Market day is every Tuesday with a Farmers' market on the first Tuesday in every month.
