Shepherds Hut in the Garden of England

Bedrooms 1
Property type cabin

About the property

NOTES ON PRICES: 1 night is £75, 1 night weekend is £80. 2 nights is £60 a night, 2 nights weekend is £65. 3 nights is £55. The hut is self - catering but we can arrange Breakfast for our guests if preferred. Continental is £4 per person, cooked is £8 per person.

The design of the hut is based on and very much true to the shepherds huts of old, using plans from an original hut. Staying in our shepherds hut provides guests with a genuine experience with a bit of luxury to boot. The hut has been insulated to modern standards and also has wood burning stove, so guests will be cosy and warm whatever the time of year.

The bathroom is but a short distance from the hut and has a modern walk in shower, loo and sink as well as big fluffy dressing gowns to luxuriate in after a nice hot shower.

The hut is set up to be used as a comfy sitting room by day and snug bedroom by night. The seat converts very easily into a bed and for extra snugness we provide a thick mattress topper and a quality duvet (as well as extra blankets if you want them), pillows, sheets and towels. All of the bedding is set up and ready to be used, tucked away nicely under the seat.

The wood burning stove is a real feature of the hut. As well as keeping you warm and cosy, in a way only wood burners can, it can also be used to cook on. In the morning, you can hop out of bed, light it or re-fuel it, pop the kettle on top, hop back into bed and wait for the kettle to whistle at you. You could also easily use the stove to cook yourself a tasty breakfast. We leave guests a carton of freshly laid eggs from our chickens, but if you run out, you can just go and fetch some more! If guests feel inclined to do a bit more cooking, there is a fire pit for BBQ's, toasting marshmallow's (which you could also do from the wood burner) or just to keep warm if you want to sit outside and look up at the stars.

All the utensils you need for cooking are inside the hut, as well as two tables for eating on. One of which is portable for ease if you want to take it outside and the other is attached to the wall so it can be used and put away again with ease. We also provide guests with a cool box.

In the summer months you may not want to light the stove so we provide small electric toaster and kettle.

If you are staying with children, we can also provide futon mattresses which are also easily rolled up and put out of the way.

About Rachel Pielow-Spratt

We are a family of four with two young boys. Not forgetting the animals; 2 dogs, 2 goats, 2 geese, 9 chickens, a kitten and a pony! We moved out of London to Kent two years ago.

We now know the area well and so decided to do B&B from our home as it is in a stunning location and is close to many interesting and fun places. There is so much to do in the area and further afield. We have also now acquired a Shepherds Hut which is set up in one of our paddocks.

We love to go for walks with our children, relax in front of our open fire, work in our garden and visit the many different places of interest we have nearby.

Why Rachel Pielow-Spratt chose Kent

It's not every day you get to stay in a Shepherds Hut.

What makes this cabin unique

We feel that our B&B and Shepherds Hut provide guests with the chance to get away from it all in a rural part of Kent but also close to lots of great places and things to do. We are in a unique location being so close to the Channel Tunnel and also London only 37 minutes away by train. There is so much to see and do in the area with a large variety of old English Villages, shopping, Zoo's, parks, beaches, restaurants, pubs. The list goes on. A great place to be with family or friends.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Rachael and Will were fantastic hosts. We had an absolutely magical weekend in their cozy Shepherds Hut. Will explained that the wood burning stove would quite quickly heat up the whole hut, and boy was he right! We couldn't have been warmer and would not even be concerned about staying in the deep Winter. The setting was idyllic and we loved making friends with the goats, horses, dogs and cat. The bathroom was great too - they've really thought of everything. Inside the hut, there is more than enough room for two and there are lots of small touches that made the stay even better. We will be back!

Perfect weekend away

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying here for the weekend. Rachel and William were wonderful hosts, bacon sandwiches in the mornings were a nice touch. Lovely animals and the views from the Hut in the morning were beautiful. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone wanting something a little cut off from city life. Thanks for having us!

Quaint hut with everything we needed.

  • 5 of 5

Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner who couldn't of welcomed us any better. So friendly and showed us to our hut. It had everything we needed. And the surroundings were amazing. Very tranquil and relaxing. The log burner was superb and even cooked our dinner on it. For our 2 day stay was so relaxing, being brought bacon sandwiches and fresh pot of tea in bed by the owner every morning was a lovely touch. Will definitely be returning with our 2 dogs next time.

Relaxing break in Kent, in unique setting.

  • 5 of 5

We had a two night stay in the shepherds hut which we absolutely loved! It was all set up for us when we arrived. All we had to do was light the wood burner and de-camp.

Even at this time of year, the hut got warm very quickly from the wood burning stove. The hut is set in a pretty setting and there is lots to do in the area. We spent one day visiting Rye and the antique shops and the evening in a great country pub nearby.

The bathroom is only a short distance from the hut and the cosy dressing gowns were very welcome too.

We had a really good stay and there were some thoughtful touches - we especially liked how some supplies were provided from freshly ground coffee and porridge through to marshmallows to toast on the wood burner.

The owners made us feel really welcome when we arrived. We hadn't made plans before our stay and they were more than happy to take the time to make suggestions of things that we could do in the local area.

We are already planning our next trip in the new year as there is a lot more we would like to do in the area-thank you for a great few days!
