Cottage in the grounds of Biggin Grange, Biggin-by-Hartington, Peak District

Biggin Grange is a private family home with 3 barn conversions in the grounds which have been sympathetically and very individually restored. The nearby village of Biggin has a pub and country house hotel and Hartington offers 2 village shops, pub, hotel, garage and traditional cheese shop. The Tissington trail is very close for walking and cycling and it is possible to walk over the owners land to Biggin Dale which leads to the River Dove. All 3 cottages can be booked together if wished to sleep 6 as Courtyard Creamery has a dining area which can accommodate all the guests.

All on one level the cottage enters into a large open-plan (8m x 6m) kitchen/dining/sitting room with a slate floor and exposed beams. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and hob, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine, fridge/freezer and dishwasher. There is an electric wood-burning stove, TV, DVD player and CD/Radio/iPod docking station. The bedroom has a king-size bed with goose down duvet and 100% cotton linen. The ensuite bathroom with bath, shower, hand basin & loo has views over the countryside. The private south-facing patio is accessed from the living area and has outdoor table and chairs to enjoy the views over Biggin Dale. Plenty of secure storage for bikes. About Jane Henry

Biggin Grange is owned by Richard & Jane Henry and we moved up to Derbyshire in 1993 from London. We bought Biggin Grange is 2000 and have extensively restored the house, outbuildings and farm. It is a fabulous home to bring up our 3 children and we are surrounded by over 100 acres of fields. Our black labrador, Otto, together with ponies, a donkey called Guinness, chickens and ducks have plenty of space to amuse themselves. The property is steeped in history as the Garendon Abbey in Leicestershire owned the Grange and it dates back to 1209. It is Grade II listed and there are many significant archaeological features on the property. We rent the land out to a neighbouring farmer who has beef cattle and sheep over the fields. We adore this stunning area and hope you do too!

Why Jane Henry chose Derbyshire Dales

Biggin Grange is a perfect place to visit as it is surrounded by acres of land with amazing views so you really get a feeling of being away from it all. But at the same time it is really convenient being close to Ashbourne and the nearby villages of Biggin and Hartington. London is only 1 hr 30 mins away on the train from Derby and Manchester is 1 hr drive away.

Living within the Peak District National Park is incredibly special and it is only when we have been away do we fully appreciate the unspoilt beauty of Derbyshire.

Just stunning....

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a relaxing break in the Derbyshire countryside, and 'Courtyard Creamery' fulfilled all our requirements, and more!

Firstly..it is situated in 135 acres of beautiful Derbyshire countryside. Biggin Grange is a lovely period house and at the side of it, in stunning grounds, lies 'Courtyard Creamery'.

It is very spacious and well equipped. Jane, the lovely owner, has provided many luxury touches, from the delicious chocolate brownies on arrival, to the comfy bed, and fab roll top bath. The coffee machine was so good, we ordered one while we were there, and it is now installed in our kitchen!

I have never been anywhere and heard complete silence, the view from our kitchen window was rolling Derbyshire hills and fields of sheep. We had a visit from 3 cute well fed chickens at our front door every morning!

Lots of great pubs and places to visit, including Chatsworth House, make sure to take in the 'House Style' exhibition on there till October!

If you are looking for a quiet getaway, in beautiful countryside, with luxury accommodation, and a truly lovely owner, go and stay with Jane her hubby at 'Courtyard Creamery'

We will be back as soon as we can Jane, and thank you so much for a truly exceptional stay.

Bug hugs

Beautifully presented cottage with a high standard of fittings.

  • 4 of 5

We used the cottage as a base for a walking weekend and found the ability to park the car for two days a relaxing aspect of the weekend. Perfectly placed for enjoying the wonderful walks in the area.

The cottage sits within a group of converted farm building that boast a very high standard of presentation.

Charming, comfortable and peaceful yet convenient to outdoor recreation and attractions

  • 5 of 5

We spent six delightful nights in the Creamery Cottage. Our friend stayed on the same property in the Old Farrowings Cottage. Creamery Cottage was very airy and roomy, while Old Farrowings had a lot of charm and coziness. Both cottages had everything we needed for a comfortable stay, and were perfect for friends travelling together. We found the location ideal. It was only a few minutes off a major roadway, and about a 5 minute

drive to Hartington which had two small grocery stores, a local cheese shop, and cafes. The cottage was convenient to outdoor recreation and attractions, yet felt peaceful and pastoral. We begin our hike down Biggin Dale right outside the door and walked into the River Dove valley, with a loop around to Hartington. We cycled the

nearby Tissington Trail. Chatsworth, Hadden Hall, and other sites in the Peak District were about a 20 minute

drive. The cottages are well equipped for cooking and relaxing after a day of hiking or sightseeing, and are located in a beautiful setting. We enjoyed the sunsets from the back patio and the farm animals in the nearby fields. Jane, our hostess, was very helpful and enjoyable to speak to. We look forward to a return to Creamery Cottage on our next trip to the area.

Quiet and comfortable!

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was luxurious, spacious and very comfortable. Everything was provided including a full dishwasher. The bed was comfortable and the shower was great. There's a shared washing machine which may be a problem for those walkers in the area who need things washed daily.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to review the property. I understand your comments about the shared Laundry Room and I decided when planning the cottages not to install washing machines and tumble dryers and give more space in the kitchens of the cottages. Jane
