The Potting Shed is in an ideal location for exploring, by foot, bike or car, the beautiful Peak District. There are hundreds of rental cottages in Derbyshire but few can boast the panoramic views that can be seen from the Potting Shed. This is a feature that guests love as well as the watching the variety of birds that visit the bird feeders. There is an entrance and exit drive to the property and off road parking for vehicles. Attractive gardens are to the front of the cottage and raised deck area for you to relax and enjoy the stunning rural views across the countryside towards MamTor. We welcome up to two dogs and kindly ask dogs are kept on leads outside as the cottage is surrounded by farmland. You are welcome to use the games room to securely store bikes.

The Potting Shed is situated in the peaceful rural hamlet of Wormhill which lies only 4 miles from Buxton where leisure facilities including swimming pool and the Pavilion Gardens can be found as well as the famous Buxton Opera House where regular music and theatre shows are a feature.

Tideswell is the nearest village where small local shops and public houses can be found which is 2 miles away. For walkers and cyclists Wormhill is conveniently located for access to the Monsal Trail at Millers Dale. Bakewell and Chatsworth House are popular tourist attractions for visitors wishing to explore the Peak District and being only 8 miles away are easily reached from Wormhill. The Angler’s Rest at Millers Dale is the nearest pub to The Potting Shed, being one and a half miles away where award winning real ales can be enjoyed.

All the accommodation is on one level and comprises of an entrance lobby with cloakroom. To the left is the twin bedroom and to the right is the main living room and kitchen area. The kitchen, at one end of the room, is equipped with all items needed for family dining and there is a dishwasher and microwave in addition to the cooker. At the other end of the room there is a cottage suit and wood burning stove where guests can relax and watch television, listen to music, read and watch DVDs (we have a selection of books and DVDs for adults and children). In addition we have a games room that adjoins the accommodation. There is a snooker table, football table, darts, rocking horse and other toys and games that can be enjoyed. We also provide Swingball for outside as well as a gas fired barbeque for al fresco dining on the decking area.

Leading on from the living area is the family bathroom with shower facilities in the bath. The master bedroom is beyond the bathroom and affords space for a travel cot if needed. There is ample storage for guest’s belongings in both bedrooms.

For guests attending a wedding at Harge Hall please note it is a three minute walk from the cottage to the Hall on the road.

About Fiona Horspool

I was born in Buxton and moved to Pembrokeshire, where I still live, when I was three. I still have family in the Peak District and we decided to buy a cottage back in the village where my family has lived for generations. I work in health and social care with children and young people and have a family of my own.

Fiona Horspool purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Fiona Horspool chose Wormhill

We love to visit Derbyshire to see family and friends and also to enjoy the stunning landscape. We are steadily working our way through different walks in the Peaks with our two dogs and enjoy finding new places. Derbyshire has so much to offer to the holiday maker and the location of the cottage affords tranquillity yet is close to the spa town of Buxton where there is always an event worth a visit.

What makes this cottage unique

What we like most of all about the cottage is the beautiful location; it is full of character and is a great place to relax and enjoy outstanding views from the decking area. The log burner makes for a homely environment when it is cold outside. The bedrooms are either side of the living room which allows privacy for both occupants.

Really nice and cozy cottage with all the amenities provided for a perfect getaway.

Fiona the owner, was really helpful in answering all our queries and trying to make sure that our stay was comfortable. She even arranged a taxi for us, which was really a big favor. We would recommend 'The Potting Shed' to anyone looking for a nice cosy cottage in the Peak District area.

Potting Shed with a View..

  • 5 of 5

Was in need of few days away with 2 teens and our dog in the Peaks. Sadly our original booking, had doubled booked. Then we found the Potting shed, the views sold it for me and perfectly situated for walking the dog & trips out. Tideswell is 5 miles away for Fisn n chips or for a loaf & a pint! But also has an interesting history, so one of my children rightly filled me in as I qued for fish n chips.

The Potting shed is clean and extremely cosy, I found myself daydreaming out across the peaks from the armchair with a cuppa in one hand, dog in front of the log burner & children in the games room after a half day walking the Monsal trail! Which, you can pick the trail up 4 miles away at nearby Millers Dale (Great pub too Anglers Rest).

The area is great for walking the dog, left turn out through drive gate, it's mostly road walking as plenty of sheep but we had spin round Hargate hall. Which is situated behind the cottage.

Ohh did I say, Games room, yes and what a fabulous idea, especially if there are days where the British weather stays rather wet!! There is Snooker table (not full size) but teenagers enjoyed it, Table football where a lot of best of 3 was ongoing! Board games, toys for younger and Rocking horse with the views to match.

Ohhh and music centre that you easily plug your phone into with Dart board.

The cottage is extremely well equipped including boot/laundry room. Bedrooms are clean & lovely decor. The master bedroom bed is very comfy, loved the mattress :-) Bathroom is bright, clean and water piping hot for a shower.

Kitchen has everything you need. Very cosy, a welcoming home from home feel.

Double booking isn't so bad after all The Potting shed is now in my faves :)

Garden to the front isn't secure so dogs kept on lead for everyone's safety. This is due to drive way is one way in and you leave via front of the property out through gate that is open. Fab size, lovely seating area and warmer months the BBQ would be great. There are bird feeders and in the morning we were treated to the local wildlife wanting breakfast. I found myself just watching from the bed out the large window at the Woodpecker, finches and a beautiful sparrow hawk greeted us every morning for breakfast.

The cottage is extremely warm and wood is supplied necessary for your stay. Tony the caretaker greeted us and gave us a warm welcome.

We had a fabulous time :-). Hope to return...

Unexpected circumstances

  • 3 of 5

When we arrived - really liked that we saw. Very cosy cottage with beautiful views, all nicely done inside. Everything look nice and clean. Unfortunately we had to leave after first night in - our son start to have difficulty to breath properly. Things start to improve for our son very quickly since we left the cottage, that's why we are thinking that something in the cottage made him poorly. Really a shame - we can't come back into cottage in the future.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry to learn your son experienced some breathing difficulties during your stay. I gather from our caretaker you told him you had left your son's inhaler at home and this is why you left early. It would have been helpful if you had mentioned this in your feedback. I cleaned the cottage myself prior to your arrival and I know it was spotless.

Chatsworth House is a 20 minute drive and well worth a visit. The Monsal Trail can be accessed at nearby Millers Dale and is great for walking or cycling. The spa town of Buxton is the nearest town for shops and amenities including the famous Opera House and Pavilion Gardens. For theme parks Gullivers Kingdom at Matlock is great for he younger family and for the more adventurous Alton Towers is about an hour away. The nearest swimming pools are in Buxton or visit the outdoor pool at Hathersage. For history lovers Eyam is a delightful village that has a tragic past and worth a visit. Throughout the summer months paying a visit to see a well dressing is a 'must do' activity. See Visit Derbyshire for a calendar of events.
