Great location away from the hustle and bustle

My husband and I had a very enjoyable and relaxing stay at the cottage in early September. The building is in a very pretty, historic village called Shottery... about a 25 minute walk into Stratford town centre. The cottage has all the comforts of home but I would offer one warning: The beams are VERY low and both of us hit our heads on them on a daily basis. Apart from that our stay was perfect.

Gorgeous, ancient cottage with modern amenities

We loved this gorgeous, truly historic cottage in such a pleasant, quiet hamlet right across the road from Anne Hathaway's cottage. It was the perfect place to spend the weekend catching up with old school friends. We loved the pretty, private garden and the bedrooms tucked up under the eaves ( watch your head if you are over 5' 5"!!). Really nice not to have to wash and cook 17th century-style though! The kitchen had everything we needed to produce a number of fabulous feasts and the WIFI came in handy as we had left our families at home! The cottage was clean, tidy and welcoming and when we had a slight issue with access, the owner sorted it right out immediately!

Would definitely recommend staying here, whether you want a base to explore Stratford, or just a quiet, comfortable space in which to sit and read.

Wonderfull authentic cottage experience

After living in Canada most of their lives, our children were impressed by being able to live and sleep in a house that is much older than the oldest building in Canada. The cottage is truly historic and authentic, but in an excellent and clean state, and with todays comfort of a fully equipped kitchen, wifi and bath. It is big enough for a family of four and a dog. The cottage is "dog-friendly" and the enclosed garden was a nice feature for our little friend.

For tall people; just watch your head, as the historic wooden beams are sometimes low!

The cottage is just a 5 minute walk from Anna Hathaway’s cottage.

The centre is about 30minutes walk, or a short drive with plenty of parking.

Our tip is to rent your own (motor)boat for an hour on the Avon with Avon Boating, and do your own cruise! Just need to be lucky with the weather.

No Candles or BBQs at the property due to the thatch of this and other properties close by.
This is a no smoking property.
The property may not be suitable for the infirm due to steep stair case and uneven floors though out the property.

Pets welcome - please notify on booking for confirmation from owner.
Security Deposit- If the property is not left in a very similar state as on your arrival we may retain some of the security deposit to allow for addiotional cleaning .

  • The bathroom is situated just off of the entrance hallway. The bathroom is newly refurbished with an overbath shower and folding shower screen, tiled wall and floor. There is a heated towel rail and large mirror with hooks behind the door for robes. All towels are provided however we ask that dirty towels etc are left in the bath please on your departure.

  • There are 2 good sized, low beamed bedrooms. One is a double bedroom with dressing table and small wardrobe, with wooden oak floors and rugs.This room looks out to the gardens below and across to the neighbouring hamlet roof tops. Bed linen is provided however we ask that you strip the bed on leaving and leave this in the bath please on your departure. The second twin bedded room has large wardrobes with good storage and a small wardrobe / dressing table. This room is newly carpeted . The room also has the benefit of a small window with uninterupted views overlooking the farmers field with lambs in spring and tress all summer. Both rooms have central heating and ample hangers for your stay.

Notes:

  • The cottage is in a very private Hamlet and was once a farm and workhouse. It is convenient for Stratford Upon Avon either by a mile walk in many directions, or by bus ( you can pick up the open topped bus at Anne Hathaways Cottage some 300 yards along the road) or by Taxi at on average £4:50 one way. There is ample parking in Stratford too. From then cottage you access many beautiful Towns and The Cotswolds easily . The NEC is also about a 25 minute drive away and very convenient for shows such as Crufts . The cottage itself is ideal for coming back form a tiring day site seeing or for a comfortable base to just relaxe or maybe meet up with family ane friends. The Royal Shakespeare Company are based in town and offer many attractions as well as performances all year. We also cater for visiting Cast and Crew for the RSC, so this may be idle for you if you too need a place to stay whilst working locally for up to 6 months. Please ask and we will help you enjoy your stay.
