Lovely quiet cottage with all you could need

  • 5 of 5

We had a super relaxing week in and around Barnard Castle. High Force was amazing especially after the recent rain and overnight snow. Durham is such a beautiful place to visit, as is nearby Richmond. 'Barney' has all you need for a relaxed stay.

Lovely cottage, very well equipped Friendly helpful owners.

Cottage was in a quiet area but near town centre and 5 mins walk from Bowes museum. It was very clean and had everything needed for a home-away-from home break. Gifts of food and wine left for our arrival. Couldn't be better.

Comfy Cottage in " Barney "

  • 5 of 5

Cottage is easy to find & the parking space is literally outside the front door. Central location is wonderful as you can walk everywhere in a few minutes. Owners are really friendly/helpful and live next door. Cottage is extremely well appointed and has sufficient space for everything. Rooms are spacious & well furnished. Barney has some wonderful independent stores & lots of places to eat - the fish & chip shop at 149 is really excellent. We stayed a week & could have easily stayed longer - The Bowes Museum took a whole day ! lots of lovely walking from the doorstep. Wouldn't hesitate to book again & will most definitely return. Top Class cottage.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to meet this couple who obviously enjoyed staying in our cottage and we would certainly be extremely happy to welcome them back again.

Wonderful place to stay, nice and clean. Town center around the corner and beautiful museum closeby.

  • 5 of 5

Top marks to the helpful owners Michael and Pauline Hanby who live next door for a lovely self-catering cottage with everything you need.

Delightful shops in the town, one's that you cannot find in my country Holland anymore. We enjoyed a meal at Clarendons but there are plenty of places to eat and drink.

The bus to Darlington gives access to the trains to ex. Edinburgh. The Bowes museum is a must.

So Barnard Castle was really a wonderful surprise with walks, castle and bus rides; we tell our friends what a lovely part of England it is.

I must confess the weather was superb but we were always happy to return to the cottage after daily trips.

The perfect place to stay for comfort and convenience

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't fault Wood Street Cottage.

Don't pack anything other than your clothes because it's all there, everything you could possibly need and really good food shops are just a short walk away.

Barnard Castle has much to explore and makes an excellent base for a holiday.

Very spacious, well equipped cottage which made for a comfortable stay.

  • 4 of 5

Although only two bedrooms, the master had lots of room and plenty of storage for large suitcases etc. The second one was perfect for our 3 year old but lack of a wardrobe would cause difficulties if you needed more space.

There was everything you would need and more, extremely well equipped cottage. The welcome tray of flapjacks and homemade jam was lovely and we found cooking very straightforward, although lack of a dishwasher meant more washing up than usual.

The location was great, 5 mins walk from the centre but quiet enough to be peaceful. Parking was difficult as roads were narrow and no view from the windows or garden but the courtyard was lovely and a nice place to relax if the sun lingered on an evening. Overall a very pleasant stay in well maintained, centrally located home from home.
