Unique Peaceful Cosy Cottage Sleeps 2 Romantic Bolt Hole Away From It All

Overview

Property

Updated: 01-Dec-2016
Sleeps 2. 1 Bedroom. 1 Bathroom.

Toad Hall Cottage is self catering and welcomes dogs (up to 2 max). Quiet location in the countryside. Sleeps 2.

Only 15min from the historic towns of Dartmouth, Totnes, and Kingsbridge. Dartmouth Golf and Country Club with pool, is near as well as numerous excellent pubs and restaurants. Also within 15 minutes of some amazing beaches and coastline.

First impressions- As you drive down the lane you catch a glimpse of the sea telling you that you're near one of the most beautiful coastlines in Britain. Birdsong is the only sound you'll hear (maybe the odd tractor). Footpath signs beckon you to explore the area. Just turn left at the bottom of the hill and at the second entrance on the left, you've arrived!! There's picket fencing and the drive leads to Toad Hall Cottage!

Toad Hall Cottage is different! An open plan cottage with a beautifully illustrated ceiling. The stunning hand crafted four poster bed and wood burner beckons warmly.

We booked Toad Cottage for a Valentines escape from family life and were well rewarded. Despite the weather the wood burner made it very toasty and we were very comfortable. It is such a unique little place with it's hand painted ceiling and built in four poster bed we will never forget it and hope to go back.

Idyllic

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful spot, gorgeous cottage with everything you could need. Lovely welcome goodies and welcoming & helpful neighbours! The dogs loved it too- made friends with the local dogs! Only thing that might make it a 4 and ¾ out of 5...... Not very comfy bed- mattress topper very squidgy, without it a bit lumpy! Otherwise perfect!

Refreshing and relaxing - a 'must visit' cottage

  • 4 of 5

The location at Middle Hutcherleigh is superb, a beautiful and tranquil arrangement of converted farm buildings with access to a gorgeous large shared orchard where dogs (and humans) can unwind a few moments away from the cottage. There is also a delightful little brook with a shady seat to take in the absolute quiet peacefulness. Ample off road parking very close to the cottage.

The cottage is quite small and open plan, but really cosy and with everything you could need. Very comfortable bed, good shower, well equipped kitchen, log burner (which was welcome to take the chill away some evenings) and everything very clean. Lots of information/maps/walking guides if you do not have your own, and neighbours in the main farmhouse are very knowledgeable and friendly if you want local advice.

The owners are incredibly helpful with booking arrangements and give exceptional customer service without being in any way intrusive. They are only too pleased to help. There were unexpected welcome gifts including milk, a loaf of locally made bread, free range eggs, and a bottle of wine.

The surrounding countryside is stunningly beautiful and unspoilt with fabulous inland and coastal walks that easily equal or surpass any we have been on in Cornwall, Dorset or Pembrokeshire. Local towns of Kingsbridge, Totnes and Dartmouth are really interesting with something for everyone. Local pubs are good and all that we went to are dog-friendly.

We would thoroughly recommend Toad Hall Cottage to singles and couples who want an undisturbed, away from it all break in a fantastic location. Dogs are welcome but for non-dog-owners there was absolutely no trace of previous four-legged visitors!

Restful retreat

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was everything we had hoped for, charming, clean and comfortable with everything we needed, I recommend following the owner's directions as they are simpler to become familiar with than the route Sat-Nav's give.

The orchard is delightful and often warm and sunny when the beach is blowy and cloudy. There are so many places nearby to visit but Fast Rabbit Farm (Garden) was a favourite
