Nr Sarlat, 17c holiday cottage with private pool and large gardens

Updated: 30-Aug-2016
Set in a beautiful rural setting

Dating back to the 17th century and full of original features with exposed beams throughout, honey coloured stonework and polished oak floors. The cottage at Maison Haute is set in a beautiful rural setting. Two bedrooms sleeping 4 people, with the additional option available of a sofa bed on the mezzanine. The cottage offers comfortable, spacious accommodation for all the family. There is a large above ground swimming pool (10m x 5m), depth 1.3 metres. The ladder can be removed if required. Also 5 acres of gardens and woodland to explore. It is perfectly situated in the golden triangle of Montignac, Sarlat and Les Eyzies with easy access to all of the most beautiful sites in Dordogne.

The entrance to the cottage is through a beautiful stone arched door way, leading into a spacious open plan kitchen/dining area, following through into the lounge. The property retains many original features, including exposed ceiling beams. It is equipped with dish washer, fridge freezer, microwave, oven and hob and all the cutlery and crockery you may need. There is also a laundry room with washing machine, iron and ironing board.

The lounge provides a comfortable family seating area for relaxing, with a NEW large flat screen TV and video. A freesatbox provides English television for our guests. French doors lead from the lounge area onto a pretty enclosed courtyard, with a barbecue and patio furniture for your comfort.

First floor: The shower room has a toilet, shower and sink. A small library of books and videos are available for our guests on the mezzanine, a cosy area provided with a sofa, with lovely views across the garden. It is an ideal space to rest and relax.

Second floor: Here you will find a large double bedroom with beautiful ceiling beams, a pretty little dormer window overlooking the gardens, double bed, wardrobe, dressing table and vanity unit with wash basin. This room can easily accommodate a family should you wish to have your children in the same room.

Very nice place for families

  • 5 of 5

For a family like ours (2 adults and 3 kids, aged 6-10) it was a great place to stay. We had enough room to feel comfortable and we enjoyed our visit to Pechaude.

There's a great bedroom for the parents in the top floor and two rooms for the kids on the first. Kitchen and living room are on the ground floor, which opens to the outdoor facilities. There's a lot of space outside and the kids can spend much of their days to explore the surroundings of the house. There's a pool (which we could hardly use because of the weather) and a little building in which you can find heaps of toys and games to play.

Colin, the owner of the property, was very nice and kind, always ready to help. This gave us the feeling of being not completely alone in cases of emergency.

We would really recommend Pechaude to families who like to spend their time together. It's a place from which you can visit a lot of great sites in nearly no time (eg. the rivers Vezère and Dordogne, many castles and caves), but you have to be prepared that it's also a place of reclusiveness - if your kids want to go to a disco in the evening, this is not the place for you. However, if you like nature and having a relaxing time together with your family: here you go! Even if the weather is rainy and - in our case - not really warm you will find so many lovely villages and interesting sites to visit!

Un séjour très agréable.

  • 4 of 5

  • 5 of 5

These include food from their farms and wine at an all inclusive price. There are many places of archaeological; anthropological and historical interest. Some are world famous - Lascaux Caves near Montignac; and Font de Gaume (cave paintings - as mentioned in Jean Auels latest book in the series Clan of the Cave Bears).
