The village of Galmpton has a steam train running just on the edge of the village and a local station for the steam train in Churston which is just a short walk away, a vintage bus runs through the village and takes visitors to Agatha Christies house and gardens. The cottage has a lovely quiet secluded outside seating area and a long drive for parking. The River Dart is not far from the cottage and you can get a ferry across to the lovely village of Dittisham or to Dartmouth. There are some lovely walks in the area and also green lanes and footpaths. I have put some books of local walks in the property and some local maps.

Throughout the bay there are pretty beaches, the nearest is Broadsands which is about a mile and has a pay and display car park. Dogs are not allowed on this beach May to Oct but a short walk from Broadsands beach across the pitch and putt is Elberry Cove which dogs are allowed on all year around. Elberry Cove is a lovely secluded beach with the remains of Lord Churston's Bath House on the edge of this beach. These ruins always used to fascinate me as a child. There are rock pools to the sides of both Elberry Cove and Beadsands Beach as the tide goes out. I used to spend hours as a child looking in the rock pools at the tiny crabs and little fishes. Broadsands is a sandy beach a great for making sandcastles.

There is also a lovely coastal walk from Brixham to Piangton and on to Torquay.

A few miles from Galmpton is a water slide park which is great fun. It is next to Goodrington Beach and has a nice pub there called the Inn on the Quay and it does nice food and is family friendly.

About Amanda

I am in the RAF but love to return to Torbay when I get the opportunity. I enjoy boating, diving and other water sports and I are happiest when I am by the sea.

Amanda purchased this bungalow in 2015

Why Amanda chose Galmpton

My family have lived in Galmpton for 3 generations now and whilst I do not work in the area I love to return to the village where I spent my childhood summers. We love the steam train and collecting shells on Broadsands Beach. My Grandpa used to be the bank manager of the Brixham branch of Lloyds Bank and he was bank manager to Agatha Christie.

What makes this bungalow unique

The village of Galmpton has a steam train running by, a vintage bus that takes visitors to Agatha Christie's house and gardens. The cottage has a lovely quiet secluded out side seating area and a drive for parking. the River Dart is not far from the cottage and you can get a ferry across to the lovely village of Dittisham. There are some lovely walks in the area and green lanes and footpaths.

The cottage is located in the pretty village of Galmpton, within Torbay, just a short distance from the beach, Agatha Christie's house and the River Dart. A steam train runs from Churston Station and Greenaway Holt, not far from the cottage. The beautiful beach of Broadsands and Elberry Cove are not far from the cottage. Take the ferry to Dartmouth where there are many nice restaurants and good fish and chip shops. The seaside towns of Paignton and Brixham and Torquay are located around Torbay and during the summer have many events taking place. During the summer there are a number of firework displays and the Red Arrows visit the area most summers.

Wonderfully well equipped cottage

  • 4 of 5

Very peaceful location in lovely, friendly village. The cottage has everything you could need and we had fun trying to think of something you may need that was not there - we failed. It even has shower gel, shampoo, tea and coffee; things you only expect in a b&b or hotel. Hunt where the hairdryer is stored was fun too :-)

There are lots of DVD's if you get a rainy day like we did, something for all tastes, and loads of games and puzzles too. Oh, and such a comfortable bed, we both slept late more than once.

I would say though that to explore the surrounding countryside fully you do need a car. Found trying to do anything on local transport a bit restrictive timewise. The local butcher shop is well worth a visit (tasty proper sausages) as it the very friendly pub, but it's popular, so book a table if you want to eat at a certain time.

The small village roads get very busy at school times, but you time your trips out around this and it's no problem, you are on holiday after all.

The walk down to either the Galmpton creek or to Greenway dart river crossing are lovely and a nice place to sit and watch the world float by. Lots to do in this stunning part of the country and we'd recommend Coleton Fishacre National Trust Gardens for a place to walk, visit part of the SW coast path, admire the beautiful gardens and just relax.

I was worried by some previous comments about it being dirty and untidy but it's not and I'm glad I did not let these comments put us off. It is a little bashed around the edges but it's used as a holiday home and not everyone would treat it as they would their own home and as for the garden being a mess, it's just end of summer season die back that's all and the little patio proved a wonderful late September afternoon sun trap on several days.

We had a lovely relaxing stay and enjoyed every minute of it.

I want to live here permanently

  • 5 of 5

I had a whale of a time exploring old haunts and Wildflowers was the best place to do it from. Admitably it was hard to get up in the mornings as the the bed was so comfortable and the house itself was homely. It was well stocked and the owners couldn't have been more helpful as I had quite a few stupid questions for them. I'm looking forward to staying again, thankyou for everything.

Lovely cottage

  • 4 of 5

This cottage is a real 'home from home' and extremely well equipped. We enjoyed the week spent here enormously. The seating area to the rear was lovely to sit and relax after walking all day. The local pub was friendly with good food. A big thanks to the owners, this is our second visit and we will definitely be back.

Very enjoyable

  • 5 of 5

This is a lovely cottage 'home from home' extremely well appointed and a nice nautical theme, very quirky. We could not have enjoyed ourselves more, a very quiet street with a seating area to the rear which is not overlooked, even a car port to please the 'petrol heads'. The local pub has a good menu, with very friendly locals. Great for kids with loads of cuddly toys and a mega amount of DVD's. Very nice, thanks very much to the owners, we would to love stay again
