The village of Galmpton has a steam train running just on the edge of the village and a local station for the steam train in Churston which is just a short walk away, a vintage bus runs through the village and takes visitors to Agatha Christies house and gardens. The cottage has a lovely quiet secluded outside seating area and a long drive for parking. The River Dart is not far from the cottage and you can get a ferry across to the lovely village of Dittisham or to Dartmouth. There are some lovely walks in the area and also green lanes and footpaths. I have put some books of local walks in the property and some local maps.

Throughout the bay there are pretty beaches, the nearest is Broadsands which is about a mile and has a pay and display car park. Dogs are not allowed on this beach May to Oct but a short walk from Broadsands beach across the pitch and putt is Elberry Cove which dogs are allowed on all year around. Elberry Cove is a lovely secluded beach with the remains of Lord Churston's Bath House on the edge of this beach. These ruins always used to fascinate me as a child. There are rock pools to the sides of both Elberry Cove and Beadsands Beach as the tide goes out. I used to spend hours as a child looking in the rock pools at the tiny crabs and little fishes. Broadsands is a sandy beach a great for making sandcastles.

There is also a lovely coastal walk from Brixham to Piangton and on to Torquay.

A few miles from Galmpton is a water slide park which is great fun. It is next to Goodrington Beach and has a nice pub there called the Inn on the Quay and it does nice food and is family friendly.

About Amanda and Martin

I am in the RAF but love to return to Torbay when I get the opportunity. I enjoy boating, diving and other water sports and I are happiest when I am by the sea.

Amanda and Martin purchased this bungalow in 2015

Why Amanda and Martin chose Torbay

My family have lived in Galmpton for 3 generations now and whilst I do not work in the area I love to return to the village where I spent my childhood summers. We love the steam train and collecting shells on Broadsands Beach. My Grandpa used to be the bank manager of the Brixham branch of Lloyds Bank and he was bank manager to Agatha Christie.

Walks everywhere, Dart river views, Torr Bay, Dartmouth, Kingswear and Greenways, take your pick; they're all on your doorstep from this comfortable retreat.

Our Stay at Wildflower Cottage, Galmpton

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week in the cottage. The location was brilliant so different from our home town.Ty (our dog) enjoyed his walks and we enjoyed the peace and quiet of the countryside. The cottage was very homely and we didn't want to leave.Hopefully we will be visiting Devon again and would love to stay there again. We'd definitely recommend the property to friends. Also I would like to mention in the confusion of packing we left a few gifts behind, Amanda went to the trouble of parcelling them up and sending them on to us without any hesitation.

Excellent position, quiet and near places of interest but.....

  • 2 of 5

I knew from the photos that the house interior was dated which doesn't bother me. However being unclean does. Cleaned the kitchen (cupboard doors as well) myself when I arrived as I needed to use it and it was dirty. Beds had been used and then not changed (sheets don't take the pattern of the mattress unless laid on). Phoned Amanda who arranged for her mother to come and clean and change bedding. Fine. Double bed mattress provided me with the most uncomfortable week's sleep I can remember. Needs replacing. Not enough sofas and/or comfy chairs for more than 3 people which was fine for us but advertised as up to 4 people. Not enough glasses for 2 people using a dishwasher. I think the property must have originally been owned by an old couple, was bought two years ago and had the minimum done to it to let.

The garden was once planted nicely but is now sad and neglected. One of the wooden structures over a path has fallen apart. It would be so easy to improve it. In my opinion the property is over priced for what you get.

Nice position though and the people in the village were very friendly.

Owner's Response: The bedding was changed mere hours before this person arrived, you could still smell the softener on the fabric but they phone and demanded it was changed again so we arrived within an hour and changed it for the second time that day. The property was fully cleaned before the guests arrival and we reinspected it at the guests request when we changed the bedding, it was still clean. The mattress is only 1 year old and is sprung with a memory foam top and is very comfortable. There is a cupboard full of glasses and cups in the kitchen including pint glasses, wine glasses, half pint size and various other glasses, there are also plastic tumblers for when children stay. The kitchen is very well stocked with equipment, china and cutlery. The garden is rustic it is not a manicured London pad, this is the countryside not the city. The property was not purchased 2 years ago and it was not purchased off 'an old couple'. The property was redecorated less than 12 months ago. This customer would be more suited to stay in Fawltey Towers I will see if Basil has any vacancies!

Nice stay, good location

  • 4 of 5

We had a lovely stay at the cottage although slightly dated. It was comfortable and reasonably priced. Excellent location for trips to Brixham. A few requests would be blackout blinds/curtains as the sun was blaring through the windows at 5.30 in the morning! Also a visitors guide to the property i.e how to use the heating would have been useful although we did manage to figure it out. A very reasonably priced property in a good location, although a bit of tlc needed.

Lovely cottage in a south Devon village

  • 5 of 5

We booked this lovely cottage for a short winter break.

It's ideally situated in a small quiet village close to local beaches, the river Dart and many lovely walks.

The location of the cottage in the village is very secluded and quiet and there's more than ample off road parking within the cottage grounds.

We found the cottage to be very clean, warm, comfortable and cosy, we settled in straight away, in fact we all wished the short stay had been a longer one, we will definitely be booking again.

Thank you for a Lovely stay.

A perfect property for a stay with dog in S Devon

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I found the property far better than we expected. The cottage was clean, warm very comfortable and in excellent condition. We were extremely impressed with the furnishing and fittings, a real home from home. The position was perfect for visiting South Devon and Torbay in particular. It was only a short walk down to the river dart, Agatha Christie's house and Brixham. The local pub (Manor Inn) served good food with friendly service and was very dog friendly. We would not hesitate to recommend the cottage to friends or relatives and it will be our first choice of where to stay when we visit our many relatives in the Torbay area again.

Owner's Response: I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I stay at my cottage too so I like to make it as homely as possible and I love to hear that guests feel it is homely. I too love the walk to Galmpton Creek and the River Dart, sometimes there are even seals swimming in the Dart. Agatha Christies House is an interesting place to visit and I am a big fan of her books, some were set and have been filmed in the local area. Thank you for the lovely review I look forward to welcoming you to the area again soon.
