This unique 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment is in the basement of an old school house which dates from the 19th century so it has some interesting features such as the vaulted ceiling in the twin bedroom. The rest of the accommodation includes a double bedroom, a shower room with toilet and a full bathroom. There is an impressive, spacious open-plan living room/dining room and kitchen which overlooks the courtyard. The windows act as doors in this room so direct access into this area can be gained.

This location is ideal for all the sights in the Old Town with the famous Grassmarket being less than a 10 minute walk away and the Castle itself is about a 15 minute walk. Princes Street is also a 15 minute walk away and there are a host of shops, restaurants and bars within a 5 minute walk.

Central location ideal for sightseeing

Got to Edinburgh a bit ealry, but no problem getting into the flat. Clean, tidy and well provided for. Plenty of towels etc. Wifi does work for emails etc, but not sure it would be any good for streaming videos etc. Good selection of book and DVDs. Ideal location for seeing Edinburgh and pretty much everything within 10 minutes of the flat. Could get a bit noisy in the double bedroom with folk staying in the other flats getting back in the early hours, but not a real issue. Only minor problems were heating didn't appear to be working in the twin room and a few bulbs needed replacing. Overall a great flat and would easily stay again.

Excellant location, well equipped and beautifully decorated flat.

Flat is centrally located, great for buses, taxis and walking distance to all amenities.

Tastefully decorated, two good sized bedrooms and bathrooms.

Kitchen/Livingroom area is large and bright and has all the comforts of home.

Glen St Apartment

We stayed in this beautiful very modern apartment from 25th July to 1st August 2016. It is perfect for a family of four plenty of room, the two bathroom's are a bonus. The kitchen is fabulous. It is very central, it was about a 15 minute leisurely walk either to the old town or to the Royal mile. There is a Tesco & a Sainsbury's 5 minutes away from the Apartment. Just behide the Apartment there is a small cosy bar called The Cloisters. WiFi can be difficulty to get connected at times. There's a Dental Surgery above the Apartment and there compressor can be noisy at times. But we could all stay here again if ever back in Edinburgh!

Very clean

Four of us stayed in this apartment during our recent visit to Edinburgh. It is very clean and spacious and warm with floor heating. We were surprised that it was a basement with a staircase down, but the interior was very bright due to the inside courtyard. We were there during the summer, but I would imagine that it would be very warm in the winter given its location.

It takes about 10 minutes to walk to the Grass Market and longer to get to the Royal Mile, but buses run fairly frequently and we invested in a Hop Off/Hop On bus pass. We are in our late 50s - early 70s and the walk to the Grass Market was fine. The walk up to the Royal Mile a little more challenging as it is UP.

All in all, the apartment is in a good location for most people in old town, close to transportation - though there appears to be no parking available if you have a car. There are stores, pubs, and restaurants within close walking distance of the property and the area is very safe. The home is spacious and clean. It could use a dryer, a couple more chairs, and the wi-fi is definitely hit and miss but we enjoyed our stay.

Pretty good bang for your buck

I stayed at this basement apartment for 8 days in early June. It was very clean and in a nice part of town in Old Edinburgh. Plumbing and electrical all worked just fine. We were able to drop off our luggage in the morning so we didnt have to lug it around until the cleaning crew was done. This would be an excellent holiday flat for 4 people, more if one or two didnt mind sleeping on a (comfortable) couch or sharing a couple smaller beds (in the 2 bed bedroom). My only negative experience here was with the Wifi. It was so weak that it was of no use to any of us. It would connect, but anytime you wanted to do anything, you would get nothing except a "signal too weak" (or no signal at all) error message. The result was the same with 3 different phones and a tablet (2 iPhones and 2 Android devices). I am taking one star off for the Wifi... or lack thereof.

The kitchen is well stocked with the basics. It has a clothes washer, but no clothes dryer, so we did not use it. You are provided with satellite TV and a DVR for about a 36 inch flat screen TV. The beds were a little on the firm side, most not so much that they were uncomfortable. I slept quite well. Linens (blankets & towels) provided were quite adequate. One tip, the heater is a "beneath the floor" heater so it takes a while to warm the place up. Its fine though once it does. We did not have a car, but if you do, you might find the parking a little sparse. The flat is close enough that you can walk to most places. The Royal Mile is about a 20-25 minute walk. Waverly train station is about a 25-30 minute walk (Haymarket is probably a little closer). The airport is a 20 GBP taxi ride. Waverly train station is about a 7 GBP ride. There are also airport trams and buses that go fairly close by if you dont mind waiting a while (or you get lucky and show up at just the right time). Overall, this was a good buy and we enjoyed our stay here. It would have been great if it had decent Wifi.
