About the property

NEW FOR 2017 SEASON - Following the new bathroom installation last year, we are pleased to confirm that Dormouse Cottage will benefit from the following improvements for next season: New Kitchen, New Sofas, Bose Stereo and redecoration. Pictures will be updated as soon as works are complete.

Dormouse Cottage is a delightful and beautifully proportioned stone cottage located in the sleepy Dorset village of Loders, with its welcoming pub, church and pretty stone built thatched cottages giving the visitor a taste of traditional English village life, now fast disappearing. Recently renovated the cottage is practical and welcoming with a cosy but spacious lounge with woodburner, separate dining area, two bedrooms and a glorious sunny garden with views of the popular walker’s haven of Boarsbarrow Hill and a patio perfect for some al fresco dining. The county of Dorset is renowned for its picturesque villages, soft rolling countryside and Jurassic coastline and there is plenty to entertain the visitor. These include trips to the many beaches along the Heritage Coast, fossil hunting at Charmouth, a day out at the stunning beach at West Bay, visiting the delightful seaside town of Lyme Regis or meandering through the streets in bustling market town of Dorchester.

Why Paul Roper chose Lyme Regis and West Dorset

A beautifully presented cottage with new and modern bathroom and a wood-burning stove in the lounge - perfect for those winter's nights.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dormouse cottage is situated a few minutes drive from Bridport in a quiet village called Loders. We stayed at the end of July and had an enjoyable week exploring Dorset. We found the cottage to be very homely and well equipped, with a comfortable living room with a log burner which we used on a couple of chilly evenings. The cottage had a nice modern bathroom with a powerful shower and comfortable bedrooms. The garden was also a bonus as it was south facing and we ate our evening meals outside in the sun. There is a country pub a few minutes walk which has nice ales and food, supermarkets and shops are a short drive away. We found the cottage to be ideally situated with an easy drive to Lyme Regis, Charmouth, West Bay, and Weymouth. We would recommend this cottage and look forward to returning in the future

Excellent property

Property gave us everything we needed, it offered home comforts as well as security for buddy our dog. Great location, central for touring the Jurrassic coast. Quiet village with lots of good walking. Highly recommended for a quiet getaway.

A magical place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Paul and Kimberley it is a wonderful cottage, the decor was amazing and it was welcoming and cosy. Everything you will need for your holiday is there. The beds were sooo comfortable.

Lots of places to visit a short drive away, Abbots Tropical Garden is a must. There are some great walks directly from the cottage. It was lovely to get back after a busy day to sit in the garden and enjoy the view with a glass or two of wine.

The local shop is well stocked and the Loder Arms pub has good food at a reasonable price.

Any queries we had were proptly replied to by Paul and the deposit was refunded to my bank within days. Hope we will back soon.

Lovely holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dormouse Cottage. The cottage is in the quiet village of Loders, and only a short drive to the main town of Bridport. (There are fresh eggs and homemade cakes for sale on a cart just around the corner from the cottage on the way to Bridport which were amazing!)

The garden has a lovely view, and it was very relaxing and peaceful sitting in the sun after returning from days out.

The kitchen had everything you'd expect to have in your own home, so preparing and cooking meals was easy.

Parking is on the road, and we managed to park outside the cottage every day very easily.

Dormouse cottage is perfectly located with attractions and beaches about a 30min drive away - Cogden beach is a great coastal walk, and Charmouth beach is worth a visit for fossil hunting.

We didn't get a chance to visit the pub next door, however we did go to The Crown Inn on the roundabout at Bridport - the service and pub we're average, however the steak and ale pie was amazing and I'd recommend it!

Overall we had a great week here, and would definitely return if we have another holiday in Dorset.

A very clean and comfortable cottage in a lovely village

  • 4 of 5

We made good use of the excellent facilities with barbecue and enclosed rear garden for the dog also the local pub was only a 200 yards away when we fancied eating out. This proved a good base to explore this part of Dorset and all helped to make it an enjoyable holiday.

Nice and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely week here at the end of August. The village of Loders is very quiet and peaceful. The local pub was about 20 paces away.

There are lots of good activities/places to visit within a 30 minute drive. We spent most of our time playing on the beaches at Charmouth looking for fossils.

In the evening it was nice to come back and sit in the pretty little garden and have a bbq and enjoy some wine in the evening sun. Our 2 year old enjoyed finding all the little decorative creature statues around the garden, and was convinced there was a fairy house down by the bottom fence.
