About Ian Runham

I'm a retired Ex Cop who used to work in Torquay 30 Years ago.

I live in Staffordshire now with my two young daughters and Maddie the Labrador.

We get to the house as often as we can ourselves. The girls just love it so much.

We have tried to provide everything for the perfect family English Seaside beach holiday. We regard our home as offering the best value in Torquay.

We have built family memories here which will last a lifetime !

Hopefully you will have the opportunity to do the same.

Come and Enjoy it to - You've probably earned it.

Ian Runham purchased this house in 2005

Why Ian Runham chose South Hams

I fell in love with Meadfoot Beach Torquay over 30 years ago now.

It's the closest thing to perfect summer holiday location I know.

Torquay is included in a poem by Blake and he writes...The Bluest Bay in all the world, If I could tell but half of the lovlieness of this place you would be here at once.

It changes its appearance everyday so every single visit is unique. It's captivating blue waters and a freshness to the air. Honestly its life affirming stuff. I never get tired of it and hopefully you will enjoy it to.

What makes this house unique

Its a great location, being only a very short stroll to the beach. We are about half a mile over the hill to the Harbourside Area with its Bars Cafes Restaurants.

The Hot Hub has always been our most appreciated feature, but we offer the whole package. All lines all Towels All utilities included in the price.

A full Sky Tv Package and Unlimited Infinity Broadband for those who like to keep in touch.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Stayed for a week with visiting friends.

Great location, right near the beach. The landlord and everyone else involved were extremely polite and helpful.

I couldn't ask for any more. A +++++++++++++++++++

Lovely situated

  • 3 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this lovely house, the beach was just 5 minutes away and shops 10 minutes all by walking. We made ample use of the hot tub and the lovely beach hut. We was also very lucky on the weather too so spent some time by the sea and crabbing. We cooked a few meals but also enjoyed a couple of meals at the lovely Italian restaurant. Would love to return next year.

Owner's Response: It is always a great pleasure to hear that guests have enjoyed their stay. The housekeeper Jade puts in an enormous amount of effort into cleaning and preparing the house for the guests each week. I agree we are truly blessed in our location literally 200 yards from Meadfoot Beach and within walking distance of the Harbourside area with its restaurants and cafes. We very much look forward to your return next year like so many of our guests who come back year after year. See you then.

Cleverly marketed

  • 3 of 5

On first entry into the property we were pleasantly surprised, however as we explored further we discovered things were not exactly as they were described. The in built microwave did not work (but had been replaced with a small portable one), we could not get one of the ovens working and there were no operating instructions available and the furniture had seen better days.

The location was impressive as it was close to the beach and we were delighted with the news that there was a beach hut that was ours for the week. One drawback to the property was that it was in a hilly part of the town and meant walking into town was somewhat of a hike.

Owner's Response: It is regretful when guests encounter difficulties and do not report them. These are the facts. The built in Microwave works perfectly. There is an additional standard size microwave we placed into the kitchen when a young couple with baby food to warm asked for one. Both conventional Ovens also work perfectly top, bottom - Grill even half grill. The instructions are in the drawer beneath. You only had to ask.

Convenient base for Torquay area.

  • 3 of 5

The house was ready, clean and tidy on arrival. The first and second floor bedrooms, shower rooms etc. all smelt fresh and well aired. Some of the furniture in the Lounge /diner has seen better days, and the room had a lived in smell, probably due to the cushions that need a wash !. We did find the room rather cramped when all eight of us were in it as it is quite small.

There were several light bulbs not working in the fittings, including 4 of the kitchen spotlights. Some of the televisions were not working and other electrical items needed attention. The microwave that was not working when we arrived was replaced at the beginning of the following week. We could not find any instructions for the electrical appliances, of a general information list showing rubbish collection days, local dentist, doctors etc.

A neighbour is the key holder, and was most helpful, including getting the microwave replaced. He also supervises the cleaner, and rubbish collection, as well as any other problems you may have.

The garage is only suitable for a small car, Honda Jazz or similar. The access is not easy and there is a quantity of boxes etc. stored in there.

Parking on the road is not to bad, however we found that if one of the nearby hotels had a function on you may not be able to park very close to the house.

The local beach is a short walk down the hill, but is covered up to the sea wall at high tide.

Walking to Torquay harbour and town centre will depend on how fit you are ! My wife and I, both 70 took about half an hour, but our two teenage grandchildren took about 15/20 minutes.

Our main problem has been dealing with the owner. We lost count of the number of times we phoned to try and book the house, most of the time there was no reply, and if we left a message the call was not returned. It took over two weeks after our initial enquiry in early January to get an e-mail confirmation of the verbal booking, even then, the web site still showed the weeks we had booked were still free.

We had more problems after the final instalment was paid in getting details about access to the house. We had to get on to 'Owners Direct' to contact him for details. The final straw was about 2-3 weeks before our arrival when the details disappeared from the web site and we could not check what was included in the house. Unable to contact the owner again by phone or e-mail we had to get on to 'Owners Direct' and the lady had to read them out to us.

At least the weather was nice

Owner's Response: This guest has chosen to remain anonymous. I must confess I feel the review is more than a little unfair and is totally at odds with others with others we have received. I have rented my house to well over 500 families now, since 2005 and none it would seem have encountered the same difficulties. We are honest, reputable and try our hardest to give guests an experience they enjoy. So always a disappointment to read something like this, and speaking of honest lets describe the garage - It is large enough to park a people carrier not as the reviewer describes - I have updated our gallery images to show my Ford Galaxy 7 Seater parked inside !!!
