About the Owner

We are Viv and Mark and we live in Newquay with our 2 boys. We love the local area and its been a great place for us all to grow up over the 2 generations! We bought Foxglove Cottage this year and have been working hard to make it into a lovely holiday home. The whole family work in Newquay; I have been teaching in Cornwall for 21 Years and Mark is a builder.

Lovely property with wonderful garden

  • 4 of 5

This is a lovely property with plenty of space for the 4 of us. Watch out for the low doorways! The garden was large, well maintained with lots of interesting features.

The property was set back from the main road due to its large front garden but proved a little tricky to get out as it is on a busy road.

At the time of our visit there was quite a problem with damp, particularly in the living room at the front of the property. I spoke to the owners about this and they new of the problem and were in the process of trying to resolve the issue.

The owners were very friendly, acting quickly to resolve minor issues and were keen to do all they could to ensure our stay at their property was enjoyable.

I would recommend this property but do be aware it is situated on quite a busy road and I trust that the damp problem will have been attended to.

From the Owner

We grew up and live in this area so we know it well; in Cornwall and close to Newquay and its lovely beaches has got to be good! The village of Quintrell Downs has lots to offer and a good community too.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Airport : NEWQUAY AIRPORT at 5 Miles Nearest Barpub : QUINTRELL INN at 150 Metres Nearest Golf : TRELOY at 4 Kilometres Nearest Train : QUINTRELL DOWNS at 250 Metres Nearest Motorway : EXETER at 80 Miles Nearest Restaurant : QUINTRELL INN / TABLE TABLE at 150 Metres Nearest Beach : PORTH BEACH at 2.5 Miles Car: recommended

This character cottage is located at Quintrell Downs just three miles from Newquay and it`s fabulous beaches and it is the perfect base for couples and families to explore the Newquay area and the rest of Cornwall. Within walking distance are three pubs and restaurants, a large Spar shop, with post office, and a train stop that takes you to Newquay. The village also has a recreation ground with tennis court, basketball net and play area.

The closest beach is Porth, which is very easily accessible and a great beach for families with small children, and a couple of minutes further into Newquay is Lusty Glaze or Tolcarne Beach. Both these have great facilities and are ideal for the whole family. Lusty Glaze has large zipwire suspended above the beach, abseiling and adventure activities too! The famous Fistral Beach is a must visit with a lively atmosphere, great eating places, shops and don't forget the surf and stunning scenery!

Watergate Beach with the Jamie Oliver Fifteen Restaurant and the Extreme Sports Academy is very popular and, like Fistral Beach, hosts various big events during the year eg Beach Polo, Music Festivals and Sporting Competitions.

There are lots of other good quality attractions for families very close to Quintrell Downs; Dairyland, Oasis Waterpark and Segways at Hendra Holiday Park and Trenance Leisure Park and Zoo are all 5 minutes drive or less away. Many more are within easy reach (Crealy, Sealife Centre, Eden Project, Flambards, Flo-rider, Holywell Bay Fun Park, Maritime museum)

Locally, Trenance has a real variety of activities for couples and families alike: beautiful gardens, boating lake, tennis centre, zoo, crazy golf, pitch and putt, Waterworld, skatepark, Lakeside restaurant (excellent reputation), cafes etc. Its a lovely area which is a short walk from town and also ajoins the Gannel Estuary where the river flows down to Crantock Beach. There are scenic walks along the Gannel, either for the relaxed amblers or the more serious ramblers, linking with Crantock Village and beach, West Pentire Headland and of course cafes and pubs for a well deserved cream tea or ice cold beer in the sunshine. When the tide is high The Gannel it is the perfect Kayaking and paddle-boarding.

Both North and South Cornish coastlines can be enjoyed easily from Quint and the Eden Project, a brilliant and educational day out for any age group, is just a 25 minute drive away.

The quaint fishing village of Padstow is a must visit; has great pubs, cafes, river/boat trips, craft shops and if you explore the little side streets some good clothes shopping too. The Camel Trail links Padstow to Wadebridge and Bodmin and is a fantastic day out on bikes (easy, flat cycling ) with picnics spots and birdwatching along the way. Local Cycle Hire shops offer plenty of options for all ages, even tandems!

St Ives (Tate Gallery, art galleries, crafts, cobbled streets, beaches) Mousehole (old cobbled fishing village with many tales to tell) and Porthcurnow Beach with its stunning cliff-top Minack Theatre are all a drive down the coast and amazing days out. Lands End is just an hour away!

Looe, Polperro, Charlestown and Falmouth are on the south coast and boast tall ships, yatchs and an ancient martime history. Great for boating or castle enthusiasts or day trip explorers who simply want to see a want to see a little more of the beautiful Cornish Coastline.

There are so many lovely places or great family attractions within easy reach of Quint that this location will suit a range of ages and holiday preferences. You will be sure to find something in the area that appeals to you.
