A magical week in the Outer Hebrides

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is beautifully situated just above the shore beside the loch, and tastefully and thoughtfully refurbished. The weather was perfect throughout the week, hot, sunny and mainly still! - so there was no need to use the woodburner with the ready supply of firewood and peat. We spent most of our time outside, birdwatching and botanising and generally soaking up the magic of Berneray and the other islands. We saw a huge range of different bird species and managed to find the rare Great Yellow Bumblebee on North Uist during our last days there. We bought everything we needed from the shop/restaurant not far from the ferry terminal at the southern end of the island where everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. We had an excellent supper there on the last evening.

Leaving the Hebrides and joining the rest of the population on the M6 southwards was a major shock to the system after the tranquillity of Berneray!

Beautiful characterful home

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved our time at this gorgeous cottage. I have always wanted to stay in a traditional black house and this certainly lived up to my dreams- all the character but with much modern comfort. The island of Berneray offers something very special with much to explore by foot and on bikes. Thankyou to the Turner family for all the work put in over the years and sharing it with us for this special holiday.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday on the beautiful island of Berneray in this lovely, cosy cottage. Our expectations were met and more. Very handy for taking the ferry over to Harris, spent a really nice day there too. Elspeth and Malcolm were great to deal with and we hope to return there someday. Highly recommended.

A beautiful cozy home

  • 5 of 5

A very beautiful cozy cottage, and a great place to get away. The island is very beautiful especially the beach on the far side of the island. The cottage it's self was very well presented and everything you could need was provided down to the fire being already laid. Everything was as described and I would happly stay again.

Forbes family July/Aug 2015

Berneray and North Uist are wonderful places to visit and Taigh Ailean was a real treat to stay in. This comfortable cottage has been extremely well renovated and there are several luxury/homely features that make it such a special place to stay, including under floor heating and top of the range linen.

Looking forward to returning sometime soon.

Tranquility Defined

  • 5 of 5

I have run out of superlatives to describe Beneray, its stunning West Beach and the quaint Turner cottage which resides on the island.

Restored to a high specification, whilst preserving all of the original features, the cottage it was a joy to stay in. Heated floors and a roaring log fire ensured that you were never cold and the provision of a rather splendid set of bath robes, slippers and towels was a nice touch.

I will certainly be returning, stunning location, views and property - many thanks for sharing it with me!
