Small romantic cottage, close to Padstow's restaurants and coast path

Overview

Property

Updated: 30-Nov-2016
One bedroom, pet friendly, moments from the harbour

Marble Arch Cottage is probably the smallest cottage in Padstow, and possibly the smallest in Cornwall — if you are looking for space, book somewhere else. If you are looking for a really authentic, charming, fascinating and romantic experience that you’ll want to tell your friends about straight away, that makes you smile and feel relaxed as soon as the door clicks shut, then Marble Arch Cottage is for you.

The accommodation is laid out over two floors — both are set above the street level so whilst you are close to the heart of the town, you’ll find that the cottage feels secluded and private. Step into Marble Arch passageway and then slip in through the cottage’s narrow door and you’ll immediately find yourself in the dining and kitchen area. It looks out over Church Street from its elegant sash window. You’ll find an Eames table and chairs for two and a small area for cooking. And we do mean small — think ship’s galley, but with everything you need cleverly incorporated. Up the staircase are the bedroom, living room and bathroom set around a small landing. Again, it’s all delightfully pint-sized, with rooms tucked together to make good use 0f the available space. But despite its small size, Marble Arch Cottage has all you need… a great bed, a comfy sofa, a relaxing bath, a smart TV and WiFi.

Marble Arch Cottage is situated between Padstow harbour and Prideaux Place, so you can pop out for a bottle of wine or a constitutional stroll along the coastal path with equal ease. You’ll have a choice of great restaurants and cafes just moments away, ranging from well known offerings from the likes of Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth to little gems like Cherry Trees or Victoria Tea Rooms. Of course the harbour itself is the heart of Padstow, and is always a great place to watch the comings and goings of boats and people, browse the shops or to simply wander. Here you can be as active or as lazy as you choose — catch the ferry across the sheltered bay to Rock, hire bikes and head up the wonderful Camel Trail, visit the amazing National Lobster Hatchery or strike out on the coastal path for Trevose Head or Trevone Bay.

The area is a natural haven — the estuary here is part of Cornwall’s designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with five Sites of Special Scientific Interest along the length of the river. The area provides a location for flocks of waders, Mute Swans, Shelduck, Mallard, Shoveller and Little Egrets as well as Peregrines and even the occasional migrant Osprey. As for beaches we have a gorgeous stretch of sand from St Georges Cove to Harbour Cove (know locally as Tregirls) and Hawkers Cove. The walk takes about 10 minutes from the cottage and has stunning views across the estuary. Within a short drive are many more beaches.

Location

From the Owner

Marble Arch Cottage encapsulates the spirit of Padstow. The town is full of little surprises, twists and turns, glimpses through to the next corner, layers of vernacular history. There is so much here, all at hand — and the cottage is the same, in miniature. It is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, for quiet reflection, for time together, for exploring Padstow. So if you are looking for that special place you’ll remember for ever, you might just have found it.
