This ground floor apartment has one double bedroom and a single bedroom. Additionally, in the living room, there is a hotel quality double bed-settee, with a deep, sprung mattress. The kitchen is equipped with an electric hob and oven, microwave, kettle, toaster, fridge, freezer and washing/dryer machine. There is a decked area immediately outside the living room patio doors. Although located on the ground floor the access has a few steps at the entrance and some more just inside the communal hallway. It is, therefore, unlikely to be suitable for guests requiring wheelchair access.
In addition, the apartment has WiFi internet access (upgraded to BT's "infinity" service in October 2015), a good selection of DVDs and a DVD player that allows access to Netflix, Amazon Prime and other internet video sources (via your own account). The television is connected to the Freeview service.
Towels and bedding are supplied. Please bring your own beach/leisure towels.
Please note that we do not accept pets or smoking in the apartment.
Enjoy the relaxing views from the living room across the local yachting harbour towards Dundee, the Sidlaw Hills and Broughty Ferry on the far side of the Firth of Tay. Amongst the activity on the river dolphins are seen occasionally.
The apartment is convenient for the championship golf courses of St Andrews (11 miles, 21 minutes, to the South), Carnoustie (16 miles, 35 minutes, to the North) and Gleneagles (42 miles, approx 50 minutes to the South West)
Other local golf courses include:
• Scotscraig – 0.8 miles, 3 mins
• Drumoig – 4.1 miles, 11 mins
• St Michaels – 5.3 miles, 11 mins
• Dukes – 11.5 miles, 25 mins
Walkers will appreciate the proximity of the Fife Coastal Path (part of the North Sea Trail), which skirts the harbour. If you head north from the apartment it is possible to walk all the way across to Dundee (approx. 5 miles) with part of the route across the Tay road bridge. The northern edge of Tentsmuir Forest/Tentsmuir Point National nature Reserve is an easy 20 minute walk from the apartment; there is a visitors’ car park, with access to Kinshaldy Beach, accessible from the south side of the forest.
Tentsmuir Forest is one of several locations that is rich in wildlife and ideal for ornithology as well as botany and marine life observation. Other nearby locations include Auchtermuchty Common, Grassy Beach (between Dundee and Broughty Ferry), Sidlaw Hills and Barry Buddon/Barry Links (only accessible when firing range not in use).
Within Tayport there is a variety of small, local shops including mini-markets, butcher, pharmacy and post office. Also within a few minutes’ walk there are family friendly pubs serving food, a community café, tearoom and take-away food outlets.
Tayport is well served by local buses to St Andrews and Dundee. The mainline railway station in Dundee is only 12 minutes by car (4.6 miles). The rail links allow easy access to Perth (approx 22 mins) and beyond to the highlands; Stirling (approx 55 mins); Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Glasgow (all approx 90 mins). Leuchars railway station, approximately 7 miles to the south, is also on the East Coast mainline with regular trains to Edinburgh.
Dundee is a vibrant university city with a wide range of cultural attractions including Discovery Quay, Victoria Dock, Dundee Science Centre, Museum of Transport, Verdant Works Jute Museum and The McManus art gallery and museum. Law Hill in Dundee is a popular location for views over the city and countryside.
Within Dundee there are public access facilities for swimming, ice skating and a dry ski slope.
St Andrews is an exceptionally pleasant, university town with castle and cathedral ruins. The West Sands are bordered by a wide grassy area, with parking, bordering the famous golf links. There is also another beach on the south side of the town. The town is well served with independent shops, restaurants, etc. It buzzes with activity and is worth visiting as are the villages along the Fife coast.

Jim Thomson purchased this apartment in 2013
We had a fantastic holiday - weather perfect - apartment very nice and had everything and more you needed for a relaxed time the view over the harbour is wonderful and the locally run café does the most wonderful soup and sandwich!! Golfers paradise - great courses just a short drive away. Thanks to Jim and Elizabeth for the warm welcome and allowing us to stay in their apartment - would definitely recommend and if visiting this area od Scotland again would be happy to stay here - best wishes Jan & Steve
The apartment exceeded all of our expectations! It was very clean and equipped with everything we needed and more, making it a very comfortable stay. The harbour was right in the backyard and the apartment was walking distance away from Tentsmuir Forest, and a short drive away from the city of Dundee. The owners also couldn't have been nicer!
This is a great home from home. Everything at your fingertips. The owners have covered everything that is needed for a comfortable and effortless stay. We stayed at this property the first week in September and what a relaxing time we had. The view is amazing just to sit at the window and watch the day go by. We would definitely recommend this apartment. The owners left a very generous welcome pack for our arrival which was very much appreciated.
This pretty cottage-style apt had gorgeous views from porch across a marina toward Dundee. Great sunsets and early mornings and just 10 min by bus or car brings you to Dundee city center. Apt was the best serviced we have experienced - EVERYTHING needed was there and it was extra clean and tidy. Bed's were comphy, including the double sofa bed in lounge, towels and such were of high quality. Hosts left not just a breakfast package but enough for 1st dinner too which we greatly appreciated. There was also tea, coffee and biscuits. Tayport itself has a Coop food store with a good selection of fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and dairy and the closest pub in behind the apt serves surprisingly fine food.
While there were plenty of good local maps and tourist info in apt, our hosts were quick to offer extra advice and in our case went far out of their way to help us navigate the challenges of settling our Candian daughter to begin graduate studies Dundee Uni. The apt also provides very easy access to explore down to St Andrew's and further along the coast. You can also just go out the door and walk or run in either direction - truly a beautiful location.
Many tks to Jim and Elizabeth - we would love to stay in their Harbour Side charmer again. We strongly recommend it as a quiet, relaxing alternative to central Dundee.
We have had the best holiday in a long time at Tayport! The apartment is so lovely, and very thoughtfully kitted out to make your self catering holiday as easy as possible.
I'm a keen cook, and found the kitchen and equipment perfect for my needs.
The double bed is extremely comfortable, with its memory foam mattress, and we have slept comfortably all week!
The view from the French windows in the living room is simply stunning! If ever there was a perfect place to relax with a book, or even unwind with a glass of wine; then this is it! The sunsets are beautiful over the harbour, and you don't have to be professional to take a fabulous photograph; the scenery does it for you!
Overall, the perfect place to stay, whether you want a relaxing holiday/break; or a more energetic walking holiday. The Angus glens are only an hour away taking it easy!
Thank you both very much, Elizabeth and Jim; you are the perfect hosts, and we will definitely be coming back! Thanks also for the ample welcome tray!
Davinia and family.
Very nice property and location with first class welcome pack. Owners, Jim & Elizabeth, were most helpful with information about the surrounding area from the moment our holiday was booked with plenty more clear and concise information regarding places of interest on arrival. Don't miss an oportunity to stay at this property I highly recommend it.
