About the property

Located in Central Haworth, One Bedroom, Log Burner, Many Original Features.

Come Home Cottage is a lovingly-restored Grade II listed building located just a few minutes walk from Haworth's historic cobbled Main Street. It is the ideal place for a stress-free break for two. Some guests use the house as a base to explore the local area, which includes Haworth itself, and of course, the moor made famous first by Emily Bronte and then by Kate Bush in her song 'Wuthering Heights'. The house dates from the 1860s and has many of its charming original features still in place. Come Home Cottage was formerly two dwellings for mill workers (one family downstairs , one family upstairs) now converted into a single spacious house. It has a peculiarity in that it has two front doors and no back door, which is typical for a house in Haworth built at this time. The first-floor living room has a large fireplace with a wood burner, original stone-flagged floors and beamed ceilings. There are two very comfortable sofas for complete rest and relaxation, with a TV, DVD player, Ipod dock and radio. The property has BT broadband. The modern basement kitchen is newly-fitted and fully-equipped and has a comfortable seating area with wall-mounted TV and retains its original cooking range installed in 1864 as a feature. There is a small utility room off the kitchen with washing machine and clothes drier - this room was a pantry with a large stone shelf for a fridge for the nineteenth-century inhabitants of the house. There is one double bedroom with double bed and a spacious bathroom on the second floor. The light and airy bathroom is newly-fitted with a large bath and a modern monsoon-style shower. Parking is on the street directly in front of the house and a permit will be supplied for display. Haworth is ideal for walkers, steam train enthusiasts and anyone with an interest in the history of this beautiful corner of England or the writing of the Bronte sisters. The Black Bull pub, which is just 5 minutes away, was the haunt of Branwell Bronte and featured heavily in the BBC drama 'To Walk Invisible'. Local tours and organised Ghost Walks around Haworth are available from the nearby Tourist Information Centre. However, we have a good fire, lots of cushions and books and DVDs for tired guests who just need a break. Moving around is optional!

About Catherine Mason

I am originally from Newcastle-upon Tyne, which is where I was born and where I grew up in a family with a coal mining background. My great passion since childhood has always been books and Wuthering Heights in particular. That's what drew me to Haworth. I love the atmosphere of the village and the amazing beauty of the moors. I bought Come Home Cottage in 2014 and it took a year to restore it to its former glory. I hope to spend some time there myself and I hope it lures my two sons up to Yorkshire from London occasionally. Although I have a full-time teaching job my hobby is my little literary-themed gift shop on Main Street and designing and sourcing gifts for other book lovers is my current weekend activity.

Why Catherine Mason chose West Yorkshire

Come Home Cottage has been a labour of love. We knew as soon as we saw the house and its location that it would be a very special place for a holiday and we knew it has to retain its original features from the 1860s whilst offering every home comfort. The name 'Come Home Cottage' was chosen by my dad, who thought of the Kate Bush song (I'm Cathy, I've Come Home) when I mentioned Wuthering Heights to him! The house is just a few minutes from the moors and the house called 'Top Withins' that inspired the book, so that seemed just right. (We're also huge Kate Bush fans so no problem there). We love this house and we hope you will too.

What makes this house unique

The house is ideally located for any visitor to Haworth and is very pleasing to anyone looking for traditional Yorkshire features such as a stone-flagged floor or wooden ceiling beams. It has a lovely wide windowsill to sit in with a coffee and watch local life going by, which ranges from horses clopping by on the cobbles to the occasional film unit working on a book adaptation. The best feature of this house is how relaxed it makes you feel as soon as you arrive.

Stunning cottage

  • 5 of 5

Come Home cottage was far more than we expected. It has been beautifully done and the website doesn't really do it full justice. It's comfortable and spacious and the large kitchen/diner/ sitting room is a little below Street level and enjoys the same footprint as the living room up above. (Also has a large fridge freezer & washer/dryer which is in the small utility room). The central heating was set to constant making it cosy on the coldest of days & always had plenty of hot water on tap. Also a lovely large bathroom with walk in shower & separate bathroom. It is literally a 2 minute walk to Haworth Main Street, it couldn't have been more convenient. The cottage was a little more expensive than we would usually pay for a 6 night stay, but from when I first opened the cottage door I could see why. Highly recommend.

Impeccable cottage

  • 5 of 5

The cottage looks great from the photographs but in actual fact, the levels are raised once inside. A fantastic job has been done on the interior and is remarkably more spacious than appears from the outside. It's like walking into the TARDIS.

Everything you would need is there and we loved the shower which again, as with the bathroom was large and immaculately designed. The kitchen/dining room, is also very spacious and is equipped with everything you could need during your stay. The cottage is very well positioned at the top of the hill with pubs, shops and restaurants all within easy reach. The residents parking permit was much appreciated and we managed to park directly outside the property on arrival and didn't move it again until our journey home!

We would recommend to anyone thinking of exploring Haworth, to give Come Home Cottage a look, you won't be disappointed!

Beautiful character cottage

  • 5 of 5

We spent a lovely few days in this gorgeous cottage. The accommodation is spacious and this old cottage has been updated and decorated to a very high standard. There are lots of original features but also all the modern conveniences you might need. The cottage is well located in the centre of the village with lots of interesting things to see and do in the nearby area. Pam, the owner, very kindly left us a generous welcome pack which was very much appreciated. I would not hesitate to recommend this property.

Fantastic cottage, great location!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at Come Home cottage and Yorkshire is amazing. The cottage had everything we needed. It has been refurbished to a high standard and was very cosy and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bed was comfortable and everything was spotlessly clean.

The location of the cottage is fantastic for exploring Haworth and the surrounding areas. We especially enjoyed the Bronte museum (went twice) and the walk to Top Withens. We didn't eat out much but had a fantastic cream tea at The Stirrup. Bolton Abbey is a must.

Catherine the owner gave brilliant customer service and we would most definitely recommend the cottage, and hope to return one day.

Fantastic place

  • 5 of 5

We've just spent a lovely week at this cottage and I have to say, it was superb. The rooms were light and spacious, the facilities excellent, and the ambience peaceful.

The cottage is situated at the top of Main Street close to the restaurants and pubs of Haworth. A minute or two stroll and you're in among all of them.

The owner, Catherine, has gone to a lot of time and trouble to ensure her guests have a lovely place to stay in. The cottage is immaculate throughout. When it came to our last day, we didn't want to leave! It felt homely from the minute we walked through the door.

We would thoroughly recommend this cottage if you want to stay in Haworth or the surrounding area. We couldn't have wished for a better place.

Thanks Catherine.
