Westbrook House is a terraced cottage located in a quiet non-drive through hamlet called Newbiggin in Bishopdale. There is off-road parking at the front of the property.

Dating from 1742 the cottage has got many traditional features including the original beams. Upstairs there are two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a superking-size bed with a memory foam mattress. Features include a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams. There is also a TV & lovely views both of the front & rear of the property.

The 2nd bedroom has a double bed made from solid oak with two bedside tables. The room also has exposed beams & lovely views to the rear of the property.

Along a corridor there is a large, spacious bathroom with a bath/shower & a large vanity sink unit. There is also a wall-heater if extra warmth is required.

Downstairs - there is a cosy 3rd bedroom with a Double-size brass bed.

The main lounge has two sofas able to seat 5 people. There's also a multi-fuel stove which can burn both coal & logs (all of which are provided free of charge). There's also a large full HD 4k TV, a Humax FREESAT box, a DVD player, & a selection of DVDs. Free Broadband & WiFi is also provided free of charge. There are also lovely views of the rear of the property overlooking the dale valley.

From the lounge you go through to the kitchen-dining area. The dining table seats six people. The kitchen itself is brand new, and is fitted with all the latest mod cons e.g double oven, induction hob, microwave, double-toaster etc.

There are gardens to the front & rear of the property. The front garden area is largely paved & with tubs of flowers & shrubs. There's also a pear tree by the House itself. It also gets a lot of sun in the morning & early afternoon so it's a nice area to sit out & have a morning cuppa & even chat with passersby. The rear garden is much bigger with plenty of space to stroll about & a lawn that slopes down to a field. There are also benches to sit on and enjoy the stunning view across the Dale.

Despite this not being our primary residence, my partner & I love the Dales, and escape here as often as work allows. But as we can't be here all the time we don't see why others shouldn't enjoy the use of such a lovely property, in such a gorgeous setting. We've just had lots of work done to refurbish much of the property, including new carpets & a newly-fitted kitchen with all mod-cons. We aim to make your stay as enjoyable and as hassle-free as possible. And hope that at the end of your stay you'll feel like you don't want to leave.

If you like walking, there are literally dozens you can choose - from gentle riverside strolls to hikes over windswept moors. If you like visiting attractions the choice is extensive - from arboretums, museums & castles, to the world-famous Wensleydale cheese-making creamery & Hardraw waterfall.

Rural and Magical

As a rustic fix for deprived and jaded urbanites Westbrook House really can't be beaten, situated as it is in a wonderfully tranquil and pretty hamlet, with soul-stirring views, a folksy vibe courtesy of the odd stone gargoyle or two, and nothing but birdsong and the clip-clop of horses hooves to punctuate the silence.

The house itself pulls off the difficult feat of being scrupulously clean and well-equipped (shiniest cutlery anywhere, ever) whilst still exhibiting a palpable sense of age and the rooms are all considerably larger than the photos suggest. Depending on the time of day there are lovely sun-traps to both front and back.

Credit is due to the owner Phil for his clear, comprehensive instructions, his recommendations, his willingness to be contacted and in particular his readiness to assist with unforeseen difficulties beyond his control - our three day break was planned in part to escape a messy bathroom refurb at home but by unfortunate coincidence the local electricity supply was down on the first full day or our stay. Phil went out of his way to make up for this and was equally helpful when we realised that our daughter had left behind a much-treasured cuddly toy in her bed, an event of earth-shattering importance as most parents will attest to.

The Dales are beautiful and characterful - horsey Middleham and biker-friendly Hawes - and Fountains Abbey is a marvel. A word of caution on The Forbidden Corner however. It is an unforgettable, fiendish feat of construction and design but visitors may well do to heed the scouts and "Be Prepared". Family members can easily lose each other and phone signals in our experience were as non-existent as any visible stewards, so it makes sense to designate a meeting point at the start. Nor is it an unalloyed joy for claustrophobes...

To summarise then, a magical cottage, owned and managed by very nice people, in an idyllic spot. Perfect.

Great walking weekend from Newbiggin

My wife and I and four good friends have just enjoyed a fab weekend at Westbrook House on our annual walking holiday "without the kids". The house is truly excellent... from the very hot log burner to the magnificent views over the valley. The house comes with everything you need.

Phil has been very helpful and attentive which has made the weekend run smoothly and one we will not forget. We hope to return one day to this lovely, quiet piece of the Dales.

We can highly recommend the local pub near the caravan site, food and ale were very good. Chatty friendly hands on landlord made us very welcome.

fantastic property

This is a fantastic property, ever thing provide is of a very high standard, the pictures do not due it justices, this property is is in a beautiful location and you can walk for hours. We loved staying here and would love to come back again in the future. The are some love water falls to walk to and in all we had a really love time.

Gorgeous, warm and cosy cottage

We had a lovely break in the Dales, and the cottage was just perfect. A little waterfall up the road and a great big garden to entertain the kids. The cottage was well equipped with quality items and it's location is pretty good for a lot of local attractions. We really had a great time - the perfect place to get the kids off their screens and spend some quality family time together!

Excellent standard very well equipped

We stayed for a long weekend and really enjoyed our mini break. The views were fantastic and really felt we were in the country. The photos don't do this property justice.

Westbrook house was really well equipped. All rooms were nicely furnished with a lovely cottage feel. It was nice and warm though we used the open fire for extra luxury. It was very clean and well kept (better than home!!)

It was really well located for exploring the Dales and walked up to the local pub (Street Head Inn) one evening for a delicious meal.

Using the instructions from the owner, the cottage was easy to find.

We went to the fox and hounds in West Burton for lunch nd wouldn't recommend though the village was nice for a walk around and not far away.

We would love to come back again if we holiday in the area again

Comfortable house, beautiful location

Very much enjoyed our few days here.The house itself is furnished, decorated and equipped to a high standard with a particularly comfortable master bedroom, an effective log burner and initial supplies of all the household necessities. The location is quiet but affords easy access to Wensleydale, Wharfedale and many eating and drinking opportunities. Wonderful views from the cottage across Bishopsdale.

As well as booking weeks & fortnight breaks etc, we also do 3, 4 & 5 night stays. However due to the way Owners Direct has set-up their rate page, I'm unable to provide a round figure for these dates (e.g 3 nights shows up as say £279.99). So when looking at the price for MINIMUM rate section please just assume it's rounded up to the nearest ten - i.e £279.99 becomes £280.00.

Also - It's entirely optional but we always suggest people take out some form of holiday insurance, just in case you are unable to take your break (e.g illness). In the event you are unable to make it, please notify us immediately in writing (e-mail). We will endeavour to re-let the property for the period. If successful all monies paid - less the deposit - will be refunded.
