New for 2015 Church View is a stylish and modern family house set in the picturesque village of Shorwell opposite its historic church and country pub. Surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to fantastic beaches it's ideal for families and friends wishing to explore.

Inside, the property has been recently renovated to a high standard. The ground floor is light and spacious with a contemporary open plan kitchen, dining and living area. The clearly defined areas provide a sociable setting for cooking, eating and relaxing. It also offers a delightful conservatory with steps down to the enclosed garden and with views of the Downs beyond. About the Owner

We (Dave and Sophie) live in Godalming, Surrey with our three children Ned, Tilly and Barney. We bought Church View in 2010, with the hope of spending every weekend on the island. Alas, other commitments (mainly our children's various sports teams) have meant we cannot spend enough time in the house and so we have decided to let others enjoy it.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful holiday home, we have had a brilliant week. We hope to be back again in the future (the toys indoors & outdoors have also been much loved).

Excellent

We had a wonderful holiday at Church View. Property was as described in the details. Very clean and extremely well equipped. Welcome pack was provided on arrival. There were plenty of toys for our grandson to play with - both in the house and the garden and also a wind break etc for the beach. Dave and Sophie clearly want their guests to have a really good holiday and seem to have thought of everything to achieve this. One of the best cottages we've stayed in.

Owner's Response: It's great to hear that you enjoyed your September break at Church View. We've had a lovely Indian Summer and it's fantastic that our beach toys are still getting some use so late in the season.

A lovely location and very good accommodation.

  • 5 of 5

Church View is ideally located on the Island and has been nicely decorated and contains everything you could need. The layout and specification of the property is very good.

The downstairs is open plan and has a kitchen, dining area, living area, wc and conservatory, so if you do want to watch tv, read a book or play a board game there is plenty of space and if the weather permits you can also use the garden.

In the garage are bikes, games, outdoor seating, bbq, body boards etc.

Upstairs the bedrooms are all a good size and the beds are very comfortable with good wardrobe and hanging space and an en suite shower room and well appointed bathroom (just be aware of the view from the street when on the loo or in the bath!).

Locally the pub does good food and a couple of miles away in Brighstone are more pubs, a local farm shop and post office that sell most of the essentials. If you have kids make sure you check out Shorwell play area at the local park which is well spec'd for such a small village and just 5 minutes walk away.

I would have described the property as excellent, but it is slightly let down by minor things like a loose tap in the kitchen sink, broken blind in bedroom 1, some unsightly algae growing on certain areas of the outside of the house, a small tv (by today's standards) in the lounge and noise from the road in the early morning. None of which would stop me booking the house again, but for the money we paid in high season, I would have hoped for perfection.

That said I am sure the owners, David and Sophie will address all points, except the unavoidable traffic noise once they read this. The owners communication pre, during and post stay has been excellent and they have created a really lovely holiday home.

Owner's Response: We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay at Church View and that the children found the local play park in Shorwell. Our children always loved visiting it when they were younger. We are really sorry that there were a couple of minor maintenance issues during your visit. Unfortunately we were not aware of them. We certainly do expect the house to be perfect for all our guests. We will of course attend to them straight away. A couple of guests have mentioned the size of the TV and we will replace it as soon as possible.

Spacious, modern family accomodation

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic week at Churchview. Three generations of our family stayed including two children aged 1 and 4, the house was plenty big enough and catered fantastically well for the children. The garden is big and secure, and there are lots of children's garden toys for them to use as well as a huge selection of toys and games indoors. The house has been done up to a beautiful standard, very clean and modern. The pub in the village is excellent for food and beer, we even popped in for breakfast on our last day which was very nice! Shorwell is perfectly placed to explore the island with easy access to all corners. We would highly recommend this holiday house to anyone but especially families with children!

Good house, excellent location

  • 4 of 5

The property was finished to a high standard. The kitchen was well equipped with lots of utensils and crockery. The toys, games and books were fantastic and kept 2 young boys amused for hours. The outside furniture was good but there was no sun umbrella. A few more cushions would be good particularly in the conservatory and spare pillows would be welcome. I did have to unblock the shower drain which was blocked when we arrived. The welcome box of groceries was much appreciated. We had a lovely week and will certainly recommend this property as it is in an excellent location for exploring the island and was very comfortable and exactly as described. Blackgang Chine was a hit with the children and The Needles was very interesting and had something for everybody. National Trust and English Heritage members will certainly benefit from their membership on the island. The Crown Inn across the road serves good food but is better for drinks and ice cream. Try The Wight Mouse for good portions and good value for money and it has a good children's play area.

Fantastic property in an amazing location

  • 5 of 5

Church view really does have it all.

The little touches were really thoughtful, like bread, milk, cake and butter. We had 2 two year olds with us, the toy selection for them was fantastic, kept them amused when we was in. When we read the list of things available at the property when we had arrived I was really surprised. Not many places you hire that also provide a trampoline, slide, seesaw and fishing nets. Anyone travelling with children, you really won't need to take anything to amuse them, church view has it all. Perfect setting with just a few steps away from the village pub that serves delious homemade food. The property has a very modern feel to it and was immaculate. The house keeper next door was extremely nice and her husband helped us out when we had issues with our car. Have already recommended to a friend who's looking to go to Isle of Wight in the summer. Would we stay here again ... 100%

Perfect house for a family break

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the house for a long weekend with 3 children, ranging from 3 months to 7 years old. The house was perfect, lots of toys for the children, and a lovely big garden. The kitchen was perfectly equipped. We will definitely be returning.

Location

From the Owner

As soon as we pulled into the driveway of Church View we knew we would love it. The garden is a glorious sun trap. You enter the house through the conservatory and from there into a wonderful open plan living space, which we knew our three children would enjoy. I have always dreamed of being near a traditional country pub and I wasn't disappointed by the Crown Inn. The nearby beaches are lovely all year round and if you are visiting in Autumn a walk along Compton Bay on a sunny Autumn day is a must. We have loved every minute we have spent on the Isle of Wight and we are sure you will too.

Shorwell is a charming rural village situated in the south west of the island. The Crown Inn, in the centre of the village, offers a wide selection of homemade food and has a pretty garden with a stream running through it. Opposite, is the 12th century St Peter's church. Shorwell still has it's own village shop and post office.

The nearest beach at Brighstone is a 5 minute drive away and it is a 15 minute drive to the unspoilt National Trust owned beach at Compton Bay. The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside with numerous scenic inland and coastal paths making it an ideal location for walking and cycling holidays. The Tennyson Trail, stretching from Carisbrooke Castle to the Needles, is on the doorstep. The Isle of Wight Mountain Bike Centre is also located near the village.

Church View is a great base from which to explore the island. As well as the many picturesque villages, there are a variety of family attractions within easy reach such as Carisbrooke Castle, Blackgang Chine, the Dinosaur Farm and the Needles.

Facilities

From the Owner

The biggest benefit of Church View is the open plan living area which is perfect for friends and families. There cannot be many properties on the island that can boast such a space. The house is light, spacious and the décor is modern. The enclosed garden is a child friendly sun trap and big enough for a game of football or cricket. All the neighbours are very friendly and there is a traditional country pub just over the road. What more could you want?
