Fisherman's Cottage Brixham | Sleeps 4-6, Sea & Harbour Views, Pet Friendly

Overview

Property

Updated: 09-Dec-2016
A pretty Brixham cottage with sea views just a short walk from the waterfront

This historic fisherman's cottage in Brixham is a pretty two to three bedroom historic fisherman's cottage which sits above Brixham harbour and is a short walk from the town centre & waterfront.

A flight of original stone steps lead up to the cottage front door & onto a sunny patio with table & chairs and potted plants.

Beyond the front door, the lounge & kitchen lead off the entrance hallway. The sitting room features a pair of comfortable Chesterfield sofas, a faux electric wood burner and Sky TV for evenings in.

Enjoy a holiday breakfast for 4 -6 guests in the newly fitted country kitchen at the rear of the cottage which leads out to a small partially covered courtyard with a cute semi-outdoor toilet. A steep flight of steps rise up from at the back door area and up to a small terrace area with a charming 'wooden wheel' bench ~ a perfect spot to enjoy a relaxing morning cuppa in the sun!

Back inside, stairs from the hallway, lead to the main bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, hand basin & WC. Along the short corridor is a charming 2nd double bedroom and also a spacious front facing master bedroom with king size bed & fitted wardrobes.

Henry Francis Lyte, who wrote the words of the famous hymn 'Abide With Me' at his home (now The Berry Head Hotel), as he overlooked the sun setting over the sea in 1847; was once vicar of the church of 'All Saints' in Lower Brixham which can be seen from the spectacular picture window in the 3rd bedroom up a steep carpeted set of stairs that rise up from the first floor landing.

A light & spacious lofted living space with two blue bucket chairs positioned perfectly to enjoy amazing, far reaching views across Brixham harbour and out across beautiful Torbay. The large daybed can be used to sit and relax on or opened out and set out as twin beds for the 5th & 6th guests (£50 cost per person).

As the first vicar of All Saints Church in the centre of ‘Fishtown', he was a pioneering pastor to the local fishermen and their families, and was much loved and respected and as a memorial to Lyte, for more than a century; the bells of his church have echoed over the ancient harbour every day during the still of the evening at 8pm.

Brixham has been the centre of the area’s fishing industry for centuries and you can learn much more about the town’s maritime past in the Brixham Heritage Museum just down the road in the town. It has an infectious oldie-worldly atmosphere, offering a peace and simplicity becoming all too rare in the hectic bustle of our busy lives. "It has the pumping heart of a bona fide fishing town, with views that would give the Bay of Naples a run for its money" The Guardian

With well over 100 trawlers working out of Brixham, the locally caught fish is famous all around the world. So don't miss the chance to enjoy wonderful fresh seafood in one of the many restaurants, cafés, Fish & Chip shops & waterside crab, cockles & mussel stalls.
