Lovely traditional villa air con and private pool in a delightful rural setting

This delightful, traditional Provençal villa with partial air conditioning and lovely pool set in mature gardens offers a real 'away from it all' feeling yet is only 15 to 20 minutes on foot from an all year round lively Provençal village. Situated at the end of a rural lane and surrounded by countryside you could be many kilometres away from the nearest village but in fact you are just close by. Lovely pool, barbecue - even a traditional pizza oven, this property sleeps 8 people in 4 bedrooms. The garden is flat and laid out as different 'rooms'. The covered terrace with mosaic dining table is just outside the French windows leading to the dining room and has views to the hills and also across to the securely fenced swimming pool. There is a charcoal barbecue and also a traditional pizza oven with superb preparation space. The swimming pool is surrounded by mature planting - a delightful area for sunbathing as well as swimming. The pool leads to a large terraced area with both sitting and dining furniture - and a double bed for those who wish to take a comfortable siesta or even sleep under the stars. There is a large area set to grass - great for children to play. the whole property is securely fenced and there is private parking for up to 3 cars.

Lovely villa on edge of real Provençal village
We had a wonderful fortnight at Villa Caroline. Yes, the furnishings are quirky ( but interesting) and the photos give a true portrayal. What they can’t show is that the layout of the villa is perfect for two families giving a lot of privacy in the house and the grounds. We only really slept inside, cooking and eating outside as the large, pretty garden has numerous seating areas, again allowing everyone their own space. The garden is totally dog proof - a bonus for us with two dogs, one a large puppy! The garden and pool were well kept. The only downside is that three of the four double beds are on the small side - not a problem for us but a bit restricting for our 6ft son! This is a good value, well-managed property and we recommend it.

Fantastic place to stay
The house was great and very spacious for a large group of two families. We spent most of our time outside on the terraces and pool areas and thought the garden was very well spaced out meaning that each group could get their own space if needed. Judith made us feel very welcome and popped in on our arrival and was a great source of local knowledge before we had even arrived and was extremely helpful the whole way through our booking to our stay. Would definitely recommend and look forward to going back.

Pretty villa .... but dreadful beds and a veritable army of mosquitoes
On the plus side, Villa Caroline is indeed a lovely house filled with brilliantly eccentric furniture. I particularly covet the dresser in the sittingroom. The shady terrace on the side is a wonderful place to while away long lunchtime hours. The pool is elderly, having an old-fashioned pool ladder, and is therefore not suitable for older people - however, it is deep enough for diving and just about large enough to do some laps. The garden is lovely, with nice planting (albeit choked with weeds) and a pretty pond, and a BBQ as well as a pizza oven. Judith & Keith were very helpful and kind. But regrettably there is a fairly long list of minus points: The beds are pretty antiques, but the mattresses are lumpy, and don't be over 5'7" or 5'8" at the most as you won't fit in them and, as in my 6'4" husband's case, you'll have to sleep on the sofa (which isn't long enough, either, but at least has upholstered armrests for your legs to rest on). The duvets were elderly and sported a lot of yellow staining. There are a lot of nice Provencal dishes in an open zinc-topped sideboard in the kitchen, but there were all dirty. Similarly, the kitchen cupboards were all dirty with a number of dead bugs inside. I understand there are only a few hours on change-over day to get a house ready for the next lot, but we were the first of the season. So why the house wasn't spring-cleaned when there was time to do it, who knows. From about 5pm stand by for an army of mozzies to descend on you. We tried every mosquito repellent in the supermarket, but were eaten alive anyway. The one thing that worked inside the house was the electrical plug-ins, meaning they stayed out of the bedrooms. There's a potager/allotment next door which is dilligently (and noisely) worked most days, and you hear a surprising amount of traffic noise. The slabs around the pool are loose and uneven - these should really be seen to. Some of the French doors wouldn't close to lock. However, despite the fact that it was much less tranquil than expected, Villa Caroline could still be a lovely holiday spot. It seems to me that somewhere along the line there's been a loss of interest in the upkeep of the villa, and also that a love of antiques has superseded the requirements of the comfort and rest of the people who pay to stay there. Good, comfortable beds are crucial to having a good holiday. And something must be done about the mosquitoes - investing a few hundred quid would sort that out.

good holiday
Nice villa we enjoyed it Nice area to explore Very well equipped Good washing machine and showers Judith(property manager) very helpful and easily available Good location, rural but town centre easy to walk to in 15 mins Garden fairly dog proof Nice fig tree at the gate The pool was well looked after by Judith's husband On the downside the beds were a bit low and a bit creaky The is a busy road nearby which is a bit noisy at "rush hour" The pool had a leak and needed daily top ups The pool area was somewhat overgrown and there were a lot of loose and uneven paving slabs which didn't reduce our enjoyment but might be an issue with children or elderly people

A lovely villa in a secluded location near a charming French village.
We very much enjoyed our stay at Villa Caroline. Judith was very friendly and efficient and booking was very easy. The pre-arrival tips and directions were especially useful! She was also nearby - within the village if we needed help during the holiday. The location of the villa was excellent - pleasant views, peaceful, not overlooked and within a 15 minute walk of Flayosc. The village itself is typically French and the best we have stayed in, beautiful with a great atmosphere having plenty of shops, good restaurants and events for entertainment. There is lots to do within the vicinity. Some of the activities we enjoyed were canoeing the Gorge du Verdon, taking a boat trip to St Tropez, exploring beautiful villages and the tree park on the edge of Flayosc itself. Our initial reaction was that the villa was lovely and secluded but needed a little updating, however we soon got used to it's quirkiness to enjoy it's location, pool and spacious garden. In summary we had a really lovely time and it was very hard to leave!
