Les Chenes is a typical rural longere on the Normandy/Brittany border in France, near La Fontenelle and about 1 kilometre from the market town of Antrain. The new gite is a fully restored dwelling which originally was a milking parlour and is now furnished and fitted out in contemporary style. It has a large secluded and enclosed garden with a granite terrace and barbecue. At the front of the property is secure private parking. It is a peaceful location ideal for walking and cycling but within easy reach of all amenities and many wonderful places for sightseeing, including Mont St. Michel, the walled city and beaches of St. Malo, Dinard, Fougeres with the largest medieval castle in Europe, medieval Dinan on the River Rance, Mont St. Michel, the oyster port of Cancale and the shops and markets of Rennes.
Only 1 km away is the Foret de Villecartier, a leisure lake and forest with boat trips, pony rides, lakeside walks, treetop assault course, swings, and bar/restaurant. Only 15 minutes away is the Etang de Boulet which has a lovely lakeside beach with boating and café. Fougeres boasts a swimming pool complex with slides and whirlpools; there is 10 pin bowling at Dol de Bretagne a few km away.
The newly restored gite has 2 bedrooms; one has a double bed, the other has a double bed and bunk beds. There is a family bathroom with bath and separate shower cubicle. Downstairs there is a spacious living room/kitchen with fitted appliances: washing machine/dryer, dishwasher, fridge with freezer compartment and built in electric oven and hob. The lounge area has leather settees in front of satellite TV.
The house is child friendly, with travel cot, high chair and stair gate available for guests.
In La Fontenelle and within walking distance is a very pleasant and friendly bar/restaurant. Opposite the bar is a public tennis court. In Antrain just a short distance away there is a supermarket, post office, boulangeries, pharmacies, banks and other facilities.
There is free wifi provided throughout the property. Towels and linen are provided.
There are plenty of family friendly activities in the area. Try the nearby theme park, Cobac Park at Lanhelin, the Grand Aquarium at St Malo and Alligator Bay at Pontorson only 10km away, an amazing collection of reptiles. There are several chateau nearby; try the chateau de la rouerie with animal park only 4 km away, and the chateau de bonnefontaine in Antrain.
In 2016 the Tour de France will start from nearby Mont St Michel so this is an ideal spot from which to take off and enjoy the start! The starting places for days 2 and 3 are also easily accessible.
I am a music teacher and performer from Gloucestershire who has long enjoyed holidays in France. Two parts of this large longere are now completed so together they give an ideal opportunity to rent for a larger party or to bring grandparents or other family members. My four children and their families continue to enjoy the houses and the area as much as ever, and we invite you to see what we love about it!
Daphne purchased this farmhouse in 1999
It is a superb rural and peaceful location, good for walking and cycling but also easy to access local shops and services. The area is a wonderful sight seeing base, having many well known tourist attractions within easy reach. Access is easy from the UK by ferry and by air to Dinard.
Space, quiet, peace and relaxation; but plenty to do and see nearby if I'm feeling energetic!
The gite had everything we needed for a successful self catering holiday. It was spotlessly clean, well equipped and had enough space inside and out for our family holiday. The photos don't really do it justice. It is situated in a location ideal for easy acccess to the coast (Dinard, St Malo and Julloville), large towns (Rennes) and local landmarks (Le Mont St Michel) and we even travelled a bit further to Aromanche (Normandy landings). We were spoilt for choice in terms of things to do even when the weather was not brilliant. The nearby town of Antrain has a good sized Carrefour for shopping needs and there are small bars and shops too.
The only negative point about our stay was an internal connecting door between the middle and end gite - ideal if there are two families wanting to rent the two together - not so ideal if you do not want to hear every word (and I mean every word!) of the conversations of your neighbours or if they have young children and babies (we have done that bit!!). It did mean we were very conscious of our conversations and lack of privacy.
This is an ideal place for a peaceful holiday. The gite is well laid out and beautifully renovated - upstairs comfortable beds in spacious rooms; downstairs everything you need for self catering holiday (even plenty of English TV channels!) Outside on the terrace for an evening barbecue as the sun sets - delightful. And the only noise was the cows in the next door field.
There is not much in Antrain (apart from a supermarket and 2 boulangeries), so you do need to travel further afield, but fortified towns, forests and beaches are all within a comfortable hour's drive.
This gite is in a peaceful and attractive rural location, with a large garden ideal for relaxing or playing games. There are a wide variety of well known tourist destinations within easy reach. Inside there is everything needed for successful self catering; the furnishings are all bright and modern and there is plenty of space.
