Beautiful 2 bed holiday apartment, completely refurbished 2015, incredible views

Plaidy at The Moorings is a 2 bedroom holiday apartment in West Looe. Completely refurbished in May/June 2015, it's a little holiday haven with the most incredible views.

The main feature of the apartment is the lounge with its beautiful bay window and window seat....and the view! It's the perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy the view of Banjo Pier and out along the coastline to Rame Head, watch the world go by in East Looe town or watch the fishing boats as they come back in from the sea and land their catch in Looe Harbour. If you can tear yourself away from the window, a TV and DVD player are also provided in the lounge!

There is a spacious main bedroom with a kingsize bed, wardrobe and vanity area. The second bedroom is smaller, but also has wardrobe, vanity area and can either be set out with 2 single beds (2'6'' wide) or 1 kingsize bed, providing flexibility to suit your requirements.

The newly fitted kitchen is fully equipped with double oven, hob, dishwasher, kettle, toaster and a dining table for 4. This leads to a utility / drying area, which houses the fridge (with small freezing compartment), microwave and a handy second sink. It's a great space for drying out the towels after a day at the beach.

Plaidy at The Moorings has a good sized, gated terrace area out the front of the building. This also looks out on to those great views and with a sliding gate, it is fully enclosed, which is good for children. It is a perfect spot for enjoying your morning cuppa or lunch in the sunshine. There is also a laundry room, with free washing and drying facilities. Both the terrace and laundry are shared with the other apartments in the building.

Plaidy at The Moorings benefits from free WiFi access for all guests, and is located close to all of the local amenities of Looe. East Looe can be reached by crossing the bridge at the end of West Looe Quay. Alternatively, at high tide during the holiday season you can catch a small ferry boat across instead - then you really know you are on holiday by the seaside.

We would advise that Plaidy is a first floor apartment. It is accessed initially from the road by a little pathway up, but then there is a staircase leading up the outside of the building to our front door (as shown in the photographs). These steps are perfectly fine for most, but we do advise all of our guests to take care and hold on to the rail. Although the apartment is absolutely ideal for families, we would suggest, therefore, that it is not a great option for those with babes in arms, prams or pushchairs. We also wouldn't recommend it for anyone with mobility issues.

There is no parking immediately outside Plaidy, but guests can choose to either pay to park on West Looe Quay, (just a short walk away and visible from the bay window in the lounge), or benefit from free on-street parking on Marine Drive just past Hannafore Point, which is just 5-9 minutes walk (depending on where you get a space).

A perfect bolt hole in West Looe with amazing see and river views. The owners have thought of everything, literally! Great location for beach and restaurants. Would highly recommend this apartment and we will definitely rebook.

beautiful property

two bedroomed apartment overlooking Looe harbour. it is situated up a hill and narrow steps lead up to the property which is pointed out on the website. we were advised this prior to booking. Free car parking is a big issue in Looe but we were fortunate to get a space near to the hotel at the top of the hill - 5 minutes walk from the property. The owner was prompt replying to any email query. The apartment was clean and spacious, and felt very homely. We arrived at the property where a welcome pack had been left, and also leaflets/cards were available for nearby restaurants/cafes and things to do around the area. we would definitely book this property again.

Little Haven

After reading the reviews on this little luxury apartment my sister and I were not disappointed. Cathy and Colin have this place spotless and its decorated to a very high standard with beautiful touches in every room . We wanted to stay. The living room view ( and the kitchen) really has the most amazing views. It's bright clean fresh and just wonderful. We have two teenage boys with us who we had to fight to sit by the window . It's beautfully picturesque at night as well all lit up.

We found free parking 5 minutes down the road no problem at all.

It's slightly hilly but not much but all worth it as you have a sea view all the time . What more can you ask for . We sat out on our patio area watching the world ( and boats ) go by.

It really was amazing. The owners have thought of everything and are so welcoming. We even had a welcome pack after a long drive.

Wouldn't hesitate to come back and can't wait to. You really couldn't ask for anything else. Absolutely perfect xx

Fantastic location & scenery!

We booked on last minute and that's always a gamble but Cathy was so helpful and accommodating and helped us every step of the way.

In our view, the apartment is nothing short of 5* and you can tell that the owners have taken great care to make sure that the guests are comfortable, and that every detail had been thought through including bits for children too. We were very impressed!

I think we hit the area just before peak season so it was a tad quiet for us but we still enjoyed the beach, little shops and crab hunting! Lots of the locals told us that Looe got really busy in the summer season and I think we'd like to check it out when there is a bit more life around too.

The view across the bay is amazing too (especially with a glass of wine in hand!)

We'd definitely return in the future and recommend it to anyone.

Lovely apartment in a beautiful location

We had a wonderful few days away . Apartment was immaculate and had been finnished to a high standard . The view from the window seat was stunning . While we were there we were lucky enough to see the RNLI practicing and also a seal . The apartment was in a great location , with a shop very close by to get a few essentials ,or town is about a 10 minute walk away .If you walk further up the hill , there is some more rugged coastline and you can see Looe island . We felt very at home in the apartment and would highly recommend it .

Postcard Perfect

We were promised the best views in Looe and that is what we got. A stunning 180 degree outlook is a pretty good way to start each day. A lovely clean apartment lacking nothing in amenities.

Cathy is an exceptionally good host. Any questions prior to arrival were answered immediately and her honesty regarding the steps up to the apartment and the parking situation was greatly appreciated. The parking is fine, we never had problems finding a spot and it is only a five minute walk back to the house. All relevant information from where to shop, eat, walk, tour, etc. was provided in a very helpful book.

Everything in Looe is within walking distance with the best local pub only a two minute walk down the hill. Shops and supermarket only ten minutes away on the other side of the water (not even that if you are feeling a bit lazy - 50p for the ferry).

We would have no hesitation in recommending this place to friends.

From the Owner

One side of my (Cathy's) family are Cornish through and through, and I spent most of my childhood holidays in South East Cornwall. Having spent many holidays here together, we both love the area and we have always wanted our sons to grow up to share our passion. So as well as us taking our first steps in to the world of holiday letting, it also has huge personal significance. We looked at a number of properties in Looe, thinking it was an excellent place for a holiday let, both for us and potential guests. Of them all, Plaidy was a little tired, dated and certainly not the easy option, but we just couldn't get over the view and the location. It's a rare combination to find a place with incredible views, but which is also walking distance from a sandy beach, the Coastal Path, fantastic restaurants / bars and watersports for growing boys. Not only that, but being just inside Cornwall, it's easy and quick to get to. We just knew that it would be the perfect base for us now and for many years to come as our boys grow up. We also knew that if it was perfect for us, then other people would find it perfect for them too, so it ticked every box. It's taken a lot of hard work, but we are just so delighted with the results and we really hope you will be too.

With its' easy access sandy beach, shops and restaurants in East Looe, the town is the ideal place for couples or families with children who are looking for the perfect Cornish break. For those looking for an activity-based holiday, Looe is right on the Cornish Coastal Path and there are numerous fishing or water-sports activities both in Looe and nearby. With St Mellion, Whitsand Bay and Bindown Golf Courses within easy reach, the area also attracts keen golfers.

Over the past few years Looe has welcomed an increasing number of excellent restaurants - from fine dining for those looking for something really special, through to quality family food catering for most tastes. Not forgetting, of course, the freshest of fish and chips.

Looe is also a fantastic location for nature lovers, with its' stunning natural scenery and wildlife, incredible views and the rugged beauty of Looe Island.

The All Year Round:

Looe has a very active events calendar, with an annual Carnival, Duck Race, Raft Race and a wide variety of other events, both on the sea and in town. There is even an annual Music Festival (Looe Festival) in September time, at which a wide variety of bands play in a stage set up on the beach.

As with many of the UK's coastal towns, there are certainly seasonal peaks and troughs, however, Looe doesn't 'shut down' to the same degree as other resorts. This makes it a good destination, even in the off-season. In fact, one of the biggest events in the annual calendar is New Year's Eve, where the whole town don their best fancy dress and the new year is seen in with a fireworks display from Banjo Pier.

Other Attractions Nearby:

The whole coast of Cornwall is dotted with beautiful beaches and coves, well worth a visit.

Just down the road is the historic fishing harbour of Polperro (5 miles). This can be reached either by the Coastal Path on foot, by car, or you can hop in one of the boats which go for day trips from East Looe Harbour.

The Eden Project is just 25 miles away and the Lost Gardens of Heligan around 30 miles away, both towards St Austell. A little further afield, there are many historic Cornish towns, worth a visit, such as Falmouth (50 miles) and St Ives (63 miles).

For theatre-lovers and TV-lovers alike, there are also a host of 'must-see' locations in Cornwall. These include the Minack Theatre near Porthcurno (63 miles) for the totally unique outdoor theatre experience, Port Isaac (34 miles) for Doc Martin fans and the various set locations of the recent remake of Poldark in Charlestown Harbour (24 miles), Bodmin Moor (approx. 20 miles), St Levan (75 miles) and on the Lizard Peninsula (70 miles).

The view from Plaidy is incredible.....maybe the best in Looe, it has been said! Having access to outside space too is a real plus point, not least because the terrace also takes advantage of the view. It's the perfect spot to soak up some sunshine (up until around 1pm when it disappears from most of West Looe) or watch the many estuary or sea-based events in Looe (e.g. the Duck Race, the Raft Race) or fireworks on Banjo Pier.
