About the property

Extremely spacious family friendly two bedroom cottage with lovely rural views.

Merrington Grange Cottages have been sympathetically converted from redundant barns, to produce two very attractive, fully equipped properties that are ideal for a comfortable and relaxed stay.

Located near to Durham City, the delightful Garth and Meadow Cottages offer an abundance of space and luxurious comfort. These cottages are also located in highly peaceful surroundings, while being close enough to the A1 motorway to allow for easy travel.

The beams have been retained in both cottages and achieve a rustic charm, while the arched windows provide delightful views of the surrounding countryside. Both cottages offer en-suite facilities and a fully equipped kitchen. The south-facing patios also come complete with garden furniture and allow for glorious views of the Cleveland hills. We are ideally situated for a quiet and relaxing break away from the busyness of life.

Garth Cottage is a superb family friendly two-bedroom cottage that boasts a very picturesque and serene location. It provides a double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom (complete with a corner bath) and a twin-bedded room with an en-suite shower. The beamed lounge area is spacious and the arched windows provide stunning views of the Cleveland Hills. The kitchen/dining area is also light and airy and equipped to a very high standard, while the arched doors lead onto a pretty south-facing patio, which – complete with garden furniture - is particularly pleasant on summer afternoons.

Cosy home from home with beautiful view

  • 4 of 5

We loved our stay in Garth Cottage. It was very comfortable, warm (the local weather was sunny but bracing!) and well equipped and the view over gently rolling hills was incredibly peaceful. It was well placed for our family events in Durham and Middlesbrough and for lots of sightseeing. We hope to return in the future.

Absolutely Brillant place to stay

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was beautiful inside, lovely and clean and had everything you could possibly need. For people with disabilities it is a well equipped and layer out cottage. The view from the lovely garden across all the fields is stunning and the farm animals are beautiful and lovely to sit and watch over a glass of wine. The cottage is in a great location for seeing the castles, museums, etc all within easy reach and i highly recommend a visit to the Beamish museum ,

Well to returning.

Lovely bungalow, very clean and welcoming. Two good sized bedrooms both ensuite, wonderful open plan living room, dining kitchen. Very well equipped and well maintained including the garden.

Equal distance between Barnard Castle and Durham City.

Would strongly recommend and will stay there again.

Great Durham holiday cottage

  • 5 of 5

This holiday cottage was one of the best we have stayed in and we have been to many across the country. It was comfortable, very spacious, well equipped and in a superb location. Very peaceful and with lovely views across open countryside. The cottage has been converted to a very high standard. We really enjoyed watching the animals which visited the garden, rabbits, hares, pheasants and a small herd of friendly white cows looking over the fence each morning. It was a wonderful holiday location and we can't recommend it highly enough.

A delightful Home from Home!

  • 5 of 5

I have thoroughly enjoyed two stays to date in this delightful cottage. It is extremely clean and comfortable, surprisingly spacious, very well equipped and ideally placed for visiting Durham, Barnard Castle, the East Coast and the many tourist attractions in this lovely area.

The location could not be bettered, situated in beautiful and peaceful countryside but close enough to main roads. One of the many highlights was sitting on the attractive patio and enjoying the incredible views over farmland and the antics of the lambs, calves and occasional deer.

We arrived after a long drive to find fresh flowers and a welcome pack which was really appreciated. I am looking forward to more stays in this lovely home from home and have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to couples or families.

Fantastic place to stay. Don't miss it!

  • 5 of 5

This is a truly wonderful place to stay. The cottage is warm and inviting, roomy and comfortable, with everything you need to make for a wonderful stay. The farmland views are delightful, and although it is in a quiet, off the beaten track, area, it is just minutes from main roads to all major destinations and fascinating tourist spots.

The cottage was very clean, with extra little touches like fresh flowers and milk in the fridge. We travelled for four weeks and it was the best place we stayed.

When you are here, don't miss the Saxon church at Escomb and the Roman Fort at Binchester, little known historical gems.

We travelled as a couple and my 85 year old dad and the cottage was great for us - two ensuite bathrooms are a boon - and I would recommend for families, couples and anyone who wants relaxing holiday in beautiful surroundings.

It is probably even better than the pictures make it look!!
