THE GARDEN: One of Rose Cottage’s best loved features, in keeping with its name, is the large, sunny, private, enclosed, mature and very beautiful back garden which has something special to offer throughout the seasons. Outdoor dining, sun-bathing, treasure hunts and bird-spotting in the Rose Cottage garden have kept many a guest young, old (and four legged!) very happy. The garden has sea views across the fields, pretty flower beds, fruit trees, a woodland area, seating, patio area, large lawn and lots of charming touches like “Harry Trotter” the pig (not a real pig!), barbeque and coal and wood shed and a twigwam for kids.

SLEEP - Luxurious, coastal-themed tranquillity with amazing views – the Rose Cottage bedrooms are sure to relax you into holiday mode. The Rose Bedroom is a double room with a lovely sea view to the front of the cottage. The Ocean Bedroom can be set up with either one luxurious super king-size or two single beds and has a view of the beautiful rear garden. In both bedrooms you can enjoy underfloor heating, paintings by local artists, black-out curtains and high quality bedding. Up to 2 more adults can be accommodated in the fold-down sofa bed in the Garden Room. Infants are well catered for too with a travel cot, adorably cute bedding and nightlight (no extra charge).

LOUNGE - At the heart of Rose Cottage is its comfortable living room, with a real fire and dual aspect windows to the front and back gardens, including sea views in both directions. It’s a great place to view the spectacular East Neuk sunsets. All you need to keep you entertained is here, including Sky TV, DVD player, telescope, PlayStation, local art and lots of family games, books, films and local maps and information.

RELAX - We think you will fall instantly in love with the Garden Room – a space to reflect, to contemplate, to unwind. Sit looking out to the back garden, watch the birds through vintage binoculars, have a relaxed breakfast or put your feet up with a complimentary evening tipple.

EAT - Cook up that lovely local farm produce or catch of the day, flavoured with herbs from the Rose Cottage garden, in the large dining country kitchen with its windows to the front and back. With a wood-burning stove, cooker, SMEG fridge, microwave, washing machine / dryer, dishwasher, complimentary tea and coffee, condiments and a range of local cookery books it’s a home from home. The farmhouse style dining table comfortably seats 6 and a high chair is available for little ones. A stable-style door takes you out to the patio area in the back garden where a table for 6 allow you to dine al fresco.

BATHE - Take a long hot bath and learn to tie your nautical knots at the same time! As well as its knotty wallpaper and coastal theme the main bathroom has a bath, over-bath shower, toilet and sink. It’s stocked with complimentary luxury toiletries and has underfloor heating as well as a radiator. Towels are provided. Rose Cottage also has an additional toilet with sink and mirror and an Isle of May theme.

About Sara

Rose cottage owner, Sara is "The East Neuk Blogger". She hails from the west of Scotland but followed the sun east! Sara loves setting off with her trusty camera to find exciting new things to share with visitors to the East Neuk and St Andrews area on her blog - which was recently featured in New York Magazine.

Sara and her husband fell in love with Rose Cottage as soon as they saw it - walking through the door instantly relaxed them from their busy city lives and standing in the living room looking one way to the sea and the other way to the amazing garden just blew them away. Drinking a coffee in beautiful Crail after the viewing, while sitting outdoors looking across the sea to the Isle of May, it was hard to believe they were just an hour and 20 minutes drive from Edinburgh. They were in no doubt that they'd found Scottish holiday heaven!

Since then they've changed the interior decor considerably to make it a luxurious coastal holiday cottage while retaining all the relaxed, rural charm it had before. Spending time sitting in the garden room, looking out to the garden with a cuppa or a wee tipple or watching the amazing sunsets and sea views out front is always magical. Sara loves it when guests get to enjoy these things too!

Why Sara chose Fife & St Andrews

The pace of life is just a little slower in the East Neuk of Fife, which makes it ideal for a relaxing holiday. Walking along beautiful beaches, enjoying delicious local food and drink, exploring quaint fishing villages and trying to perfect your golf swing make for happy holidays. Short breaks at Rose Cottage are always lovely throughout the year but to really unwind and let the place work its magical I would recommend spending at least a week here.

Amazing stay!!! Far exceeded expectation!

  • 5 of 5

Rose Cottage of East Neuk was absolutely lovely, from its interior to the rear Scottish gardens and sea views. It far exceeded my expectations! The "Welcome Basket" that greeted us was delightfully filled with an array of delicious treats! The fresh flowers and personal note were such a nice touch! The cottage was impeccably clean and fresh. Every little thing you might need was carefully thought through and presented. I also fell in love with the Smeg electric tea kettle.

As you can tell, we thoroughly enjoyed our accommodations! It's so close to St. Andrews, Crail and Anstruther as well as many other villages and sights. Whether you decide to prepare a meal at the cottage or dine out, the choices abound. The organized mass of books, brochures, maps and suggestions were so appreciated and helpful. You can tell a great deal of thought and planning has gone into maintaining the cottage to the level that it is.

Sara was very pleasant to work with. We had to make a few changes to our dates and it was handled so kindly and professionally.

We can't wait to stay at Rose Cottage - East Neuk during our next trip to Scotland.

A Wonderful Place to Relax and Recharge

  • 5 of 5

I always have a slight worry about whether the holiday cottage I've booked will match the words and pictures that made me book it in the first place. With Rose Cottage any concerns I had were wiped out the moment we stepped through the door ; the cottage surpasses it's description and the pictures can't convey just how special it is.

The cottage is beautifully furnished and decorated and the garden is the perfect place to sit and let nature wash away your cares. This is the first time we've spent as much time just relaxing at a cottage as we have going out and about.

The location of Rose Cottage is perfect for exploring the East Neuk and you don't need to travel any distance to find places to visit, shop and eat.

This is definitely somewhere I want to come back to.

The perfect christmas get-away.

  • 5 of 5

Wow! What a Christmas. Even before we booked, we knew we would enjoy our stay as the information provided beforehand was ever so helpful and charming. Our first impressions were not wrong. The Cottage was just as it seems on the website – pristinely kept, well accessorized and full of character. Rose Cottage is comfortable and unpretentious and well equipped for a family holiday, a charming mixture that puts you at ease and helps you to relax. Our particular highlights were a peaceful morning spent in the sunroom watching the sunrise followed by a stroll down the nearby beach with the dogs.

The location is superb. Remote and quiet with all the necessary amentities close by.

The only thing we would change would be the length of the stay. We only had 5 nights and there was so much to do in the area, and so many restaurants to try that we had hardly started when it was time to leave. We would love to return.

Most lovely cottage ever been

  • 5 of 5

From all the cottages we have seen so far, this is our absolute favorite. The cottage has everything you need. It's clean, it's cosy, it is excellent decorated and has a beautiful garden. We spend here a week with a family of 5.

In the surroundings there are many things to do

The small fisher harbors are very beautiful. The tearoom in Crail provides delicious tea and scones. The small terrace outside was our favorite place, from here there is a beautiful view over the sea.

St Andrews is much larger with several restaurants. The distillery Kingsbarns is a visit worth. They do not yet bottle their own whiskey, as they have to wait 2 more years, but they sell some very good whisky. Further there are nice gardens in Combo estate and for excitement there is the chain walk or the secret bunker. Overall lot of things to do in the area

Sara, the owner shared a lot of information in advance about the cottage, the surroundings and how to find the location, We were very well prepared and appreciate to have this personal contact.

We hope we will be back soon
