About Deborah Smallbone

We bought the Grove Inn in beautiful Kings Nympton in 2003 after leaving the rat race of London. Since then we have had 2 wonderful boys and have loved building up the pub to what it is today. In 2008 we decided to buy and renovate the thatch cottage across the lane. After literally taking it apart (at one time only the roof, floor and bath were standing!) it was lovingly restored to what it is today. We wanted people to experience our fabulous village so decide to rent it out to holiday makers. Over the years we have had many people returning time after time for the tranquility and peace Owl Cottage offers

Deborah Smallbone purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Deborah Smallbone chose North Devon

North Devon is truly a wonderful area to explore. You have the spectacular coastline with it's long sandy beaches and rocky coves as well as two national parks - Exmoor and Dartmoor. Owl Cottage in Kings Nympton is ideally situated to explore all of these. The traditional thatched cottage is at the heart of a thriving village and really allows you to experience true village life.

What makes this cottage unique

Sitting outside, having a drink in the evening sun, listening to the birds and the hum of village life you could be in paradise!

Superb in every way

  • 5 of 5

We searched long and hard for a cosy cottage " somewhere ". We certainly found it.Tastefully decorated, comfortably furnished and situated in a very pretty village.Lots of walking both inland and on the coast and the added bonus of the patron owning the pub across the road. Cannot recommend this cottage enough

Lovely cottage

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely 3 night stay in Owl Cottage. It is a really lovely homely extremely well appointed cottage. It is superbly equipped for self catering and opposite the owners have the Grove Inn. You get an extremely warm welcome there from Robert and the staff and the fish and chip supper on Tuesday was yummy.

The beds are very comfortable in this peaceful home from home cottage. Deborah left a welcome pack of a jug of milk, butter and local bread and jam and tea. Such a lovely thoughtful touch and very tasty.

The villagers are all friendly. The scenery in the surrounding countryside is awesome. A lovely part of the world.

Thanks once again Deborah and Robert.

Charming well equiped cottage in a lovely village

  • 5 of 5

We were fishing locally and used the cottage as our base and it worked perfectly. The cottage is very cosy and comfortable and has a small but well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed staying here and the village is quiet and charming. Our host and hostess were great and very helpful, one evening there was no space left for dinner in the pub so they delivered to the cottage. The locals were also very friendly and the Grove Inn is a proper old fashioned country pub with very good food and a cosy ambience. Thoroughly recommended. We will be going back.

Peaceful weekend

  • 5 of 5

The property was a lovely thatched cottage in a very friendly village. Inside, the cottage was a very high standard and contained everything you needed. The cottage owners own and run the pub. Excellent food and company. Would recommend it to anyone.

Owl Cottage - Fantastic, warm and well equipped property.

  • 5 of 5

The property is located in the beautiful picturesque village of Kings Nympton. Very friendly village well worth wandering around, Saxon Church is lovely. The pub, The Grove is a must, warm welcoming and with great food.

The property is as described, well equipped and very clean. Totally charming, with nicely highlighted period features, a nice log burner, toasty warm! The owners have thought of everything. Welcome pack with local produce was fantastic. W e only stayed for a short break (3 nights) visiting friends, but would definitely stay longer next time.
