Superb Ground Floor Apartment with Large Terrace adjacent to Pool

Hacienda Riquelme Golf Resort is a gated community with excellent security. The apartment is on the ground floor apartment with a spacious cool terrace, facing the large pool with great views. Being a ground floor apartment allows direct access to the pool area from the terrace, with the pool area surrounded by a gated fence. the accommodation consists of two bedrooms, one double and one twin, with a sofa bed in the lounge, dining area, bathroom, kitchen and large terrace and garden. The terrace remains shaded all day long, which during the long, hot summer days is a welcome relief from the heat. It also helps to keep the apartment relatively cool. The apartment is comfortable for 4 , 5 or 6 people when utilizing the sofa bed in the lounge or the extra bed in the twin bedroom . Sitting on the terrace or in the garden affords lovely views over the 12th and 13th holes of the golf course, the local fields and to the hills in the distance. It is a quiet and very relaxing environment in which to drink a glass of wine and watch the sun go down.


Although we do not play golf, the Jack Nicklaus designed course is reported to be one of the best in the area. We understand that reduced green fees are available for guests. There is also a driving range and buggies available to hire. However, the golf course is private and guests are not permitted access to the course or to use the paths unless playing a round.

The Hacienda has 2 restaurants, including a take away Italian with al fresco dining. There is also a bar in the Hacienda with a further bar in the gardens, with tables and chairs outside. There are regular nightly activities at the bar during the summer season. There is also a reasonably priced and well stocked supermarket in the Hacienda. The resort has a total of 18 pools and guests can use any pool.

There are several children's playgrounds in the resort as well as a sports area with tennis and football courts and open air gym.


The apartment is looked after by Dave and Paula of Riquelme Property Services, who live onsite. A Meet and Greet service is available where guests will be met at the Gate House on arrival, the keys will be handed over and guests will be shown around the resort and apartment and how to use the facilities. A Welcome Pack for those who are arriving late is also available. The costs of both services are available on application. A cleaning service at a cost of Euro 70 is mandatory and is payable directly to RPS prior to departure. Guests should provide full travel details to be passed on the Dave and Paula.


The nearest airport is Murcia/San Javier about 20 minutes drive or Alicante International Airport, which is about 1 hour away. Car hire is available at both airports and is recommended. For the best deals shop around and advance booking is recommended. The nearest railway station is Balsicas, about 8km away.


This is a much loved family apartment and the owners would be grateful if you could treat it, our neighbours and the resort with respect. We do not allow pets and smoking is permitted on the terrace and garden only. Babies and young children must wear suitable swimming nappies when using the pool as any unfortunate mishaps results in the pool being closed for several days whilst it is cleaned!!


The Murcia area is located in the south east corner of Spain, with Costa Blanca to the North and Costa Almeria to the South. It boasts many white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, deserted coves and a reported 320 days of sunshine a year. The World health authority has declared the Murcia province the cleanest in Spain, with the least industrial pollution. For nature lovers, there is the stunning Sierra Espuna National Park and the Sierra de Carroscoy mountain range – both a paradise for walkers and climbers. Balneario de Archena for health treatments can be found on the banks of the river Segura. The centre has sources of rich mineral water with temperature of 52 °C, which is used in the treatment of respiratory problems and skin and rheumatic diseases. The salt-rich waters of the Balneario de Fortuna spring, with a temperature of 53 °C, is apparently particularly effective for the treatment of asthma, rheumatism, colds and allergies and gynecological disorders! In the past the baths were used by the Moors and Romans and are housed in modern facilities. There are a few hotels with direct access to the spa, an outdoor pool with hot spring water, ideal for cold winter mornings. Lo Pagán, a village two kilometers from San Pedro del Pinatar, has some of the best open-air mud baths in Europe. The waters of the Mar Menor are calm, warm and shallow which make them ideal for young children.


A car is strongly recommended for getting around the local area. The roads are generally very good with several duel carriageways ensuring rapid journeys. There is also a bus service that runs between the various Polaris World golf resorts and timings can be checked at the Hacienda or Security Post.

Wow! first impression, the complex is immense.

From the beginning to the end we could not fault anything from the apartment or the complex.

On the day of arrival at the security gate we found the security staff friendly and helpful, we would often see them patrolling the site as well as the main entrance.

After a little while we found our apartment, if you are in a hurry or arriving at night time I would advise the meet and greet service provided by Dave the key holder for a small additional charge.

The apartment was spotlessly clean and tidy with a modern luxury feel with everything you could need for the holiday.

Being next to the pool which was never over crowded and often had one or two others in it meant it was perfect for the way we like to keep an eye on the children and for dipping in and out throughout the day.

The complex was very clean tidy and well kept, the onsite shop was a little far to walk for me about 30 minutes each way, but we had a car so no problem, prices were reasonable for an onsite super market with a good selection.

The onsite bar and restaurant again very clean with a modern feel where you could get a beer for 2.5 euros. We often went out to Sucina which had a small selection of bars, bistros, a couple of shops and a supermarket, Ems bar bistro was good value and friendly where they served an English menu, I enjoyed the Spanish bar with traditional Tapas, there is also a couple of curry houses.

Lots of places to visit, again if you have transport. We went to the Terra Natura zoo and water park in Murcia about 45 minutes away.

David the owner was very helpful when booking the holiday and Dave the key holder was very friendly and helpful. We rarely go back to the same place but we would definitely book here again.

To sum it up a perfect quiet holiday Dave, Yvette and family.

Hacienda - July 2015

This is a really nice apartment, and it features one of the best swimming pools just a few steps away - directly accessible from the lounge terrace. (Huge advantage versus upstairs aptmts.)

Correspondence with the owner David was very easy and efficient, and the key holder (another Dave) is very responsive and easy to get hold of in case of any questions.

The lounge area is nice, and the covered terrace is great, as you can sit in the shade during the hotter days. All the furniture was in excellent condition, and of a very good quality for a rental property.

The only real difficulty was the heat in the evening in the smallish bedrooms, caused by highs of 34C-40C each day, high 20's in the evening) There was 1 a/c unit located in the living room and it wasn't that effective, but had no effect in the bedrooms. If we left the windows open, then the through-draft was great, and a/c wasn't required, but an uninvited cat spoilt that luxury. There are good fans in the bedrooms, but they can be a little noisy and only circulate the warm air.

The golf course is good, but the service requires improvement. 10 mins drive is El Valle, which is a great course, highly recommended for any player <12 h/cap. The course next door (Peraleja) is great value, and cost only EUR 40 incl a buggy. Its not as good as Hacienda, but much more welcoming.

You will need a car, but you need a car anywhere in Spain, unless you stay in a tourist town and don't want to walk past the nearest pub.

Although the on-site bar is great, I really wouldn't recommend it for food. We tried it twice and were very disappointed with the food. The waiters are good, and the 2 girls in the outside bar are to be commended on speed of service and friendliness.

Our 2 top picks for eating were El Gallego (Pilar) for the best steaks at great prices and Rebate (15 mins from Pilar - use GPS!) - that pushes Michelin restaurants close. The beaches are 20 mins drive, and parking is fine (except Mar Menor), but they are natural, meaning quite a lot of seaweed around. It's worth the drive to either the LaManga strip or to Carabasi beach (Gran Alacant) which are both 40mins - both great sand and clear water.

Summary - a great apartment with a great pool with lots of green grass all around. If you're prepared to drive a few minutes extra to eat & sightsee, then this is a great location.
