About Lesley Barnes

I have owned a property in Island Harbour for over 15 years and when the opportunity arose to buy one of the latest houses then it was an opportunity not to be missed and allows me to offer a unique, 5 star holiday accommodation. I also own another property in the marina called "Yachtsman's Rest" a 3-storey, 4-bed house purchased in 2010 which has been let for holidays over the past 5 years.

I am a publisher and work mainly in London but am local to the area, having grown up just across the Solent in Gosport where I attended the Grammar school,

Lesley Barnes purchased this house in 2015

This unique and stunning waterfront holiday property in Island Harbour marina, a corner tower house, offers almost 360 degree views across the River Medina and the surrounding countryside.

It is Immaculately presented and offers guests an opportunity to experience the very best combination of waterfront living and beautiful countryside views with birds and wildlife. Located at the popular Island Harbour marina, this four-storey house sits over the water’s edge, looking out across the river, and has nearby large communal gardens with a children’s play area, restaurant and bar. Island attractions include The Needles, with its chair lift, amusement park, boat rides, lighthouse and coloured sands of Alum Bay, and Blackgang Chine, the oldest themed attraction in the UK. Also nearby are Ventnor Botanical Gardens, Isle of Wight Pearl, Dinosaur Isle, a donkey sanctuary and Calbourne Water Mill, which has a 17th-century working watermill. Osborne House and Gardens (Queen Victoria’s holiday residence), Carisbrooke Castle and the sailing town of Yarmouth are also worthy of a visit. Cowes in the north west of the island is also known for its sailing. Also within easy reach are vineyards and quaint villages, some with thatched roofs such as Godshill, Old Shanklin and Brighstone. Outdoor pursuits include scenic walking, horse riding, fishing, cycling, water sports and golf. The island can be explored from the open-top buses that stop regularly at various collection points. Beach 5 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

There is ample free parking for multiple cars in the residents' field which is adjacent to the house.

Situated in a unique waterfront location, set in a beautiful riverside valley, Island harbour offers a waterside holiday in a tranquil countryside setting.

Located on the Medina River, about a mile downstream of the world renowned sailing town of Cowes, this peaceful marina offers 200 berths as well as many amenities including a licensed bar and restaurant ‘The Bistro’, shower & laundry facilities, chandlery and repair workshop. There are some great pubs, beach bars and restaurants in this area of the Island.

Enjoy outstanding views beyond of the River Medina and yachts, and surrounding countryside, hosting local wildlife including Kingfishers and Red squirrels.

Country walks and cycle tracks are all close by. Newport, the islands capital with abundance of shops, pubs and restaurants is a 30 minute riverside walk, or only a few minutes by car. Cyclists can enjoy the local tracks which are accessed close by, linking many outstanding miles over the island.

A short ½ mile stroll along the river, leads to the popular yachtsman’s waterhole ‘The Folly Inn’ with lively evening entertainment, good food and large fresco terrace.

There are coastal walks along the beaches which can be enjoyed as well as bridle paths and cycle ways along the downs taking in the breathtaking views of the patchwork countryside and out to sea.

Queen Victoria’s seaside home, Osborne House is just 2 miles away and Carisbrooke Castle can be found just the other side of Newport.

For music fans, Island Harbour is within a short, easy walk for the annual IOW music festival ground, held in 2009 between 11th & 14th June.

Beach Life

Beaches around the island change as you venture along the coast. Gurnard is the closest beach and Ryde itself enjoys 6 miles of stunning sandy beach where cricket games are played on the sand banks during very low tide. Round the coast there are pebbled beaches, sandy beaches, great beach restaurants and pretty marinas, all this part of the coast is well worth investigating.

This conveniently located holiday home enables you to enjoy the islands many attractions and beautiful beaches.
