The Village Marina Complex is located in Olhão (15 minutes east of Faro) and facing the ocean, offering magnificent views of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve with one of Portugal’s most unique collection of islands.

Our in Maroccon style furnished apartment is located on the 3rd floor (2 elevators) and offers a beautiful view over the lagoon with flamingos towards Faro and the mountains. On the roof of the building a swimming pool with sun terrace, shower and toilet for the residents of the hall. Of course it is fully equipped. All rooms have air conditioning with remote control (also used for heating and dehumidifying) and electric darkening blinds. In the kitchen: a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, oven, dishwasher, washer / dryer, a coffeemaker, toaster, steam iron, etc. There is a central vacuum system. Moreover, a beach umbrella, beach towels, bathrobes, shopping trolley etc.We also provide all basic needs, such as toiletries, litter bags/toilet paper/paper towels, coffee/tea/sugar/tea etc.

The balcony has a dining area for 4 and separate sitting corner for 2.

Olhão, a lively fishing port, still retains its original character with a strong Moorish influence. It's the place to be for people who love the real Portugal, with its history and culture, beautiful islands and beaches, nature and interesting hinterland. The 1.3 km long boulevard in Olhão is one of the finest in the Algarve with green parks and playgrounds. Striking are the famous red market halls with daily (except Sunday) fresh fish, vegetables and fruits. On Saturday there is a local product / gypsy market. There are many excellent cafes / coffee shops, shops, bars and restaurants. The choice of restaurants is great, but the very fresh fish, clams, squid, crabs and shrimp are excellent.

The islands with its beautiful beaches and the nature, combined with the marina and lively boulevard with an abundance of shops, café bars, excellent restaurants and the local market halls, as well as the 5 star Real Marina Hotel & Spa next door make this a perfect holiday destination.

Out stay was from 4th - 15th August. The weather was unusually warm, 32 - 36 degrees every day.

Wow, what an excellent apartment, all mod cons included as well as all the little bits that you need when on holiday.

The owners were fantastic, a lovely couple. The apartment was so well appointed it was like being in someone's home!

The town is great, not too touristy, but not to remote either. There was a great balance between the two, which reflected in the prices of restaurants, pastelleria and cafes. There was a good supermarket in town - walking distance (Must take your trolley though). Also there is a Lidl within walking distance again your trolley is required.

The train service was fine and very cheap, went to Fuseta (fantastic beach) and also into Faro which is good for shops etc.

Olhao doesn't have a beach as such, but taking the ferry to one of two islands or both if you so wish you can then have a day on fantastic sandy beaches.

If you want to fish, the are a couple of good tackle and bait shops which will be able to supply just about all you need for good fishing, most of which you catch is edible!

A visit to the local fish market is a must, so much variety available to purchase, then there is the meat market along with the fruit and veg market all of which is locally produced.

To wrap up, this is a great little jewel in Portugal, a place which will be visited again by us in the not too distant future.

Loved it, didn't want to go home!

Excellent above expectations

The apartment, Olhao and surrounding beaches are of the highest standard. The apartment is extremely well maintained and serviced by Sophie (owner) who met us on arrival and took the time to show us around the apartment and gave us a quick brief on Olhao and its beaches. This was backed up with a comprehensive written pack within the apartment. The town itself is a working fishing port with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Food shopping was excellent with the fish and fruit market 5 minutes walk away backed up with the supermarkets all of which are within 10 mins walk. To reach the beaches the ferries are frequent and quick and add to the enjoyment of the holiday. The beaches are of white sand, clear blue sea and when we were there very quiet. Local cafes and sunbeds, to hire, are available at the beaches which provide all the facilities of an excellent relaxing day at the beach.

Overall we enjoyed Olhao and Sophie apartment to the extend we are planning to return in September. There is no need for a car all is within walking distance. There is no sign of English pubs or Irish bars, everything is Portuguese and the local provide a very warm welcome.
