3 bedroom/3 bathroom with spectacular ocean views

The Village Marina Complex is located in Olhão (15 minutes east of Faro) and facing the ocean, offering magnificent views of the Ria Formosa Nature Reserve with one of Portugal’s most unique collection of islands. This complex includes several apartment blocks with 4 floors. However, since the orientation is north-south, there are only four blocks where the end on the south side is located directly on the boulevard. The first two blocks are owned by the hotel Real Marina Hotel & Spa. Consequently, the number of privately owned apartments with ‘super’ view is very limited. Our apartment is one of them.

Our luxury apartment is located on the 3rd floor (2 elevators available) and has, from the living room and the L-shaped terrace of 28 m2, a beautiful view of the lagoon to the islands of Armona and Culatra, and the Salinas (salt pans) with flamingos. All rooms offer view of the marina. On the roof of the building a swimming pool with sun terrace, shower and toilet for the residents of the hall. Of course it is fully equipped. All rooms have air conditioning with remote control (also used for heating and dehumidifying) and electric black out roll shutters. In the kitchen: a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, oven, dishwasher, washer / dryer, a coffeemaker, toaster, steam iron, etc. There is a central vacuum system. Two bedrooms have a double bed (2m long), the third two single beds.

The islands with its beautiful beaches and the nature, combined with the marina and lively boulevard with an abundance of shops, café bars, excellent restaurants and the market halls, as well as the 5 star Real Marina Hotel & Spa next door make this a perfect holiday destination.

Spacious, comfortable. Brilliant location & view

Just had a fabulous week in this spacious, comfortable, well equiped, 3 bed apartment. We found it well designed with a quality finish. Being 4 storeys up you will always get the breeze on hot days, but the best thing is the view from the large balcony. Here, you take in down town Olhao to the east through to Faro in the west. This is an ever changing scene, with distant aircraft (you cannot hear them) turning for the approach into Faro, ocean traffic on the horizon, ships making for the docks, fishing vessels large & small entering Olhao, leisure craft in the mix, passenger ferries & water taxi’s zipping past them all. At low tide you will see locals picking cockles for their dinner & on hot days, horses led out to cool in the shallows. At night navigation markers, Farol lighthouse, boats, island villages & the firmament, light up the scene. Just pour a drink & absorb the view. The roof top pool is great – worked for our teenagers, would be great for toddlers too – it is all very safe. The traders in Olhao market are very approachable & a couple of days we picked up some fish (6 slabs of fresh tuna for Euro 14.50 !!!), cooked it & ate on the balcony. The roadway is not a bother at night, with the shutters down, & the aircon was great. Ria Formosa is beautiful. I walked down Culatra island & at one time passing no one for 60 minutes. Lidl is a couple of blocks away, as is the municipal swimming pool. But the islands are the place for swimming. The ferries are easy & there are stacks of fish in the water & landing stages to jump off. We decided not to hire a car. The transfer from the airport was 20 minutes & Euro25. There is a trolley in the flat & we used that for shopping & the beach. The food in the town is excellent & tremendous value. We are booking for next year.

Olhão, a lively fishing port, still retains its original character with a strong Moorish influence. It's the place to be for people who love the real Portugal, with its history and culture, beautiful islands and beaches, nature and interesting hinterland. The 1.3 km long boulevard in Olhão is one of the finest in the Algarve with green parks and playgrounds. Striking are the famous red market halls with daily (except Sunday) fresh fish, vegetables and fruits. On Saturday there is a local product / gypsy market. There are many excellent cafes / coffee shops, shops, bars and restaurants. The choice of restaurants is great, but the very fresh fish, clams, squid, crabs and shrimp are excellent.
