Location

Activity and Interests

Bourton-on-the-Water is one of the most beautiful showplaces of the Cotswolds and a major tourist destination. Its location at the hub of the area makes it an ideal base from which to explore.

Delightfully picturesque and known as "The Venice of the Cotswolds", it is the only one of the six famous Cotswold villages (Bourton-on-the-Water, Broadway, Burford, Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh, and Stow-on-the-Wold) to have a river meandering through the main street. This is criss-crossed by small footbridges and populated with wildfowl. Charming Cotswold buildings of honey-coloured stone, mellowed by age and softened by foliage, make the centuries roll back and it is easy to envisage an English village of a bygone era.

Places of interest in Bourton-on-the-Water:

Birdland and the Maze

Cotswold Motor Museum and Toy Collection

Cotswold Perfumery

Model Railway Exhibition

Model Village

Shops, inns, tea-rooms and restaurants.

Every year, from December 1st to January 5th, a huge Christmas tree is placed in the middle of the river and the shops decorated to attract visitors. Victorian Weekend is the first weekend of December.

In summer an ancient local tradition of river foolball takes place in the centre of the village resultimng in a good soaking for participants and on-lookers.

For walkers, the Windrush Way and the Heart of England Way start in or pass through the village.
