About the property

Relax and unwind in a peaceful rural location.

The Cottage is located on the outskirts of Perassay. With easy access from all ferry ports and only 1hr 40 minutes from Limoges Airport.

Average summer temperatures ranging between 25 and 32 degrees C

Stargazer cottage sits in the unspoilt region of the Indre, shimmering yellow fields of sunflowers rolling hills and beautiful rural countryside a haven for the keen walker, cyclist or wildlife enthusiast, and as the name suggests the location of the cottage is perfect to sit out on warm summer evenings and be mesmerised by the crystal clear skies with all the stars and constellations and even the Milky Way visible to the naked eye, only to be distracted by the shooting stars.

The cottage is perfectly situated only a short drive to the main road connecting you to either Boussac 14km away to the South. A pretty market town with banks, cafe's, bakery and general newsagent and two supermarkets plus several places that serve excellent food at excellent prices. Or head north on the same road and a ten minute ride brings you into Sainte-Severe-sur-Indre another small market town famous for Jacques Tati 1947 film the "Jour de fete".

The nearest main city is Le Chatre about a twenty minute drive, with excellent restaurants, shops, supermarkets and swimming pool all laid out on pedestrian friendly characterful streets.

If your looking for a little more action Sidiailles lake is only twenty minutes away with sandy beach cafe/ snack bar, pedalos and zip wires running over the water. Another great family day out is to make the trip to Pierres Jaumatre just outside Boussac with high wire adventure playground, outdoor laser quest, Children's play area, restaurant/ cafe bar.

A short walk takes you up to the spectacular giant granite stones view point. The vista is breathtaking as you stand next to the large granite stones moulded into fabulous shapes balanced on one another as the sunsets on the Indre valley.

The Cottage is well equipped with T.V, WIFI, DVD and a selection of Dvd's, books and board games. We have a well stocked garden and are more than happy for you to harvest potatoes, tomatoes, melon or what ever vegetables/ fruits are in season. The cottage has a small seating area at the back with table and chairs ideal for the morning breakfast and a lawned private garden at the front with sun loungers, deck chairs and BBQ.

The cooler winter evenings are a perfect excuse to curl up on the sofa in front of the wood burner after a busy day exploring this beautiful region.

We have lived here for over ten years and all the numerous sights can't be covered in this brief description but we are more than happy to give ideas for places to visit and more detailed information, We want you to have the perfect holiday whether you`re looking for action or just a relaxing getaway, we are here to help.

I grew up and lived in Yorkshire.I have always loved gardening, walking and enjoying wildlife. All of which i enjoy here in France in abundance.

Stargazercottage purchased this cottage in 2008

Why Stargazercottage chose Pérassay

We converted this property ourselves to provide a relaxing and comfortable retreat while retaining original features.

What makes this cottage unique

The area is often referred as "hidden France" or "a step back in time".We agree.

On clear nights enjoy the amazing stars without light pollution.

Pick your own seasonal fruit and vegetables from the garden.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Stargazer cottage is a peaceful haven in a lovely rural location. Not for those seeking a lively nightlife, but if you enjoy, nature, wildlife, animals and good company this is the place to stay.

The owners Mo and Steve are the best hosts ever. Nothing is too much trouble. We have been directed to lovely lakes, gardens, local markets and interesting towns. There is plenty to do and see but you need a car.

If you don't fancy a trip out there is a beautiful garden to relax in and a large vegetable garden lovingly looked after by the owners where you can help your self to wonderful fresh fruit and vegetables in season.

The cottage is beautifully restored and traditionally furnished. It is very clean and extremely comfortable.

Nearly forgot... the night sky is sensational. If you enjoy star gazing its worth staying just to watch the stars.

Fantastic place to chill

  • 5 of 5

If you want a chilled out week this is the place to come. The cottage has everything you will need. We just loved the tranquillity of the area and the accommodation. It's also nice that the owners live nearby for both knowledge of the area and also to assist with anything in the cottage.

We would throughly recommend this cottage for a very pleasant break.

A fab short stay in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

Me and my husband and adult daughter had a lovely 3 night stay at Stargazer in September 17. And we saw the stars albeit for only one night as it became overcast. The cottage was lovely and well equipped right down to BBQ tongs!! The Websters thought of everything. We wish we could have stayed longer and hope to go back. Maureen and Steve were lovely hosts. The local chickens visiting us made our day. All in all it was a beautiful three nights in a fab location.

Well equipped and comfortable.

  • 4 of 5

An excellent property for a quiet and relaxing holiday.

Maureen and Steve were excellent hosts, warm and welcoming. Good to meet two fellow Yorkshire people.

We propose returning to explore the area on foot as the weather was too hot this time.

Lovely clean and well equipped gite.

  • 5 of 5

We had a really great three weeks with Maureen & Steve. The gite was just as described and had everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. We wanted rural as we like birdwatching & walking and it was, with plenty of restaurants & supermarkets in short driving distance. We would recommend the gite, but for us the best part of the holiday was the warm welcome & friendliness of Maureen & Steve who made us feel at home during our stay.

Perassay is a small, typically french, village about 1km from the cottage. There is a small general store where fresh bread is available daily from midday. There is also a bar/tabac. Ste Severe sur Indre is a lovely small town with a market every Wednesday in the medieval market place. You will find the newly opened Maison Jour de Fete(The Jaques Tati museum) here. There are several leisure lakes nearby including Lac de Sidialles with man made beaches, boating, pedalos and a bar. The first stage of the Tour du Limousin ends in Boussac - 20 minutes by car. Boussac is a delightful small town and has a busy market on Thursdays. It has two supermarkets with petrol stations and a couple of pleasant restaurants.18-hole golf course is only 20 mins.away at Les Dryades.La Chatre is a 25minute drive away where a market is held every Saturday. You will find a good selection of supermarkets here. George Sands lived in the area and wrote most of her works here. You can visit her home in the chateau at Nohant. She was a great friend of Chopin who often spent time with her. Another chateau worthy of a visit is at nearby Sarzay.A number of important motorsport events are held in the area.
