About the Owner

Well Cottage is owned by my Mum, Bette. Both my Mum and I run Well Cottage as a business and enjoy sharing this property with others. We love the fact that Well Cottage as is quite a unique property being a detached cottage with an original Well in the Garden and having so much history and character attached to it. It was a "gem of a find" when my Mum and Dad originally bought it back in 1994 and we will never want to sell it!

We arrived at Well Cottage on 15th July and what a surprise ..............

Well Cottage is beautiful and packed with charm and character. You sure can tell there is lots of love and pride goes into its up keep. Initially when we viewed the photos online we thought it might have been a little old fashioned, but everything was perfect and in keeping with the cottage feel. The furnishings were in very good order, and very comfortable. The beds were covered in high quality bed linens, and provided an excellent nights sleep, and Christie towels what more can I say. Everything you need is provided in the cottage and it is spotless clean. We had the good fortune of meeting the owners Dawn and Bette, lovely, lovely people, and not only keep a very well maintained cottage and garden but provide a jar of marmalade which might I add didn't last long, it was so yummy.

Well Cottage is in such a convenient location to the village and only a min or twos stroll to the hustle and bustle. We enjoyed our stay very much and will be returning for definite.

Wonderful authentic cottage right next to the canal

  • 5 of 5

Perfect place for a family of four providing that the kids are young and the parents aren't very tall as the cottage is wonderfully cozy. If you are over six feet tall you might need to watch your head as you move around! The cottage is smack in the middle of the most picturesque, quaint village imaginable. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect location to experience the Cotswolds. We rented bikes across the street and spent 3 hours riding throughout the area. Fantastic holiday weekend!!

Fantastic cottage and location.

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was lovely, beautifully re-furbished.

All the contents, beds, linen, kitchen equipment etc were of good quality.

The cottage was very clean.

Due to the age of the property I expected to see lots of spiders, but thankfully none!

The location is perfect for a driving free break.

Location

From the Owner

Because it has so much character and in the words of some of our reviewers on Trip Advisor: "perfect location within Bourton on the Water", "Lovely quiet cottage", "Beautiful cottage", "Absolutely enchanting", "worth every penny", "loved this cottage, sad to leave", "Well appointed cottage, quiet and peaceful in a picturesque setting"..................and many more.

Activity and Interests

Nearest Golf : Naunton Downs Golf Club at 9.6 Miles Nearest Train : Kingham or Moreton in Marsh at 14 Miles Nearest Motorway : A429 to A40 at 7 Miles Nearest Beach : Cotswold Water Park at 14 Miles Car: not necessary

The Cotswolds are a range of hills in west-central England, sometimes called the "Heart of England". The name Cotswold means "sheep enclosure in rolling hillsides". The Cotswolds is the largest area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales. Bourton-on-the Water is famous for its High Street, flanked by long wide greens and the River Windrush which is crossed by several low, arched stone bridges which have lead Bourton being called the "Venice of the Cotswolds". Bourton is regularly voted the prettiest village in the cotswolds.

As well as having numerous shops, pubs, restaurants, cafes and attractions, Bourton is wonderfully positioned for walkers with the various long-distance footpaths and local walks which start and finish or pass through Bourton, including the Windrush Way and the Heart of England Way, which begins its 100 mile route in the village.

The list below is a very small sample to give you a flavour for the wide range of attractions and activities that are available in and around the Cotswolds. There is also a local Tourist Information Centre in Bourton on the Water which can give you much more information:

- Blenheim Palace

- Warwick Castle

- Stratford-upon-Avon

- Hidcote

- Cheltenham Race Course

- Cotswold Farm Park

- Batsford Arboretum

- Highgrove (book in advance)

- Broadway Tower Country Park

- Snowshil Manor and Garden

- Oxford

So much to see, too little time!

Facilities

From the Owner

This is a unique cottage because it is one of the oldest cottages in the village which has managed to retain its original features and even has a well in the garden which would have been used by local farm hands when Bourton on the Water was mostly farm land.
