Visit our beautiful vacation home in Highlands, North Carolina! Bright and airy with lots of high windows: Rain or shine, there's never a dreary day at Creekview Cabin! Located at 4,200 feet, it's generally a good 20 degrees cooler than Atlanta or points south.
Creekview Cabin is one of the most relaxing places we've ever seen; there's something about the house, the surroundings and the calming atmosphere that just washes away the tensions of the city. The screened porch looks out into the trees above a little ravine, and is just *so* peaceful and relaxing to sit in, especially in the summertime. Even at the height of summer, the temperature rarely gets above 80 degrees, and the porch seems to catch the breezes just right. Sitting, reading and sipping a drink, looking out into the trees and hearing the trickle of the little stream down in the ravine - it's heaven!
It's a great location, whatever your interests; only 7 minutes to main street Highlands, only 10 minutes to the Cashiers crossroads. People tend to just focus on Highlands, but don't miss the Cashiers Valley; it's beautiful too, and some of our favorite hikes are down that way.
The cabin is just off Highway 64 but on the back side of a ridge that blocks almost all the traffic noise, so it's *quiet* and peaceful. Highlands is a fantastic place to vacation, with miles of hiking trails, interesting shops and superb restaurants in town, many golf courses, streams, waterfalls and lakes everywhere. It's been our favorite destination for the last 20+ years, so we're eager to share it with our guests!
The cabin's three bedrooms and three baths sleep 6 comfortably, with room for another two on a sleeper sofa in the loft. (The sofa is OK for kids, but the comfortable limit for the house is really 6 adults.) Downstairs there's a master with a large bathroom and closet with a 2-sink vanity, plus a bedroom off the hallway that uses the bathroom across the hall from it. Both downstairs bedrooms have queen-sized beds in them. Upstairs there's another master with a king-sized bed but a smaller bathroom. The hall bathroom has a tub/shower, the others have showers only.
Insulation in the walls and between floors gives good privacy, makes it easy for three couples (or a family with kids) to share the space without feeling like you're living in each other's back pockets. Every bedroom has a 43" flat-screen HDTV with cable connection and a DVD player, and there's a 55" screen and home theater system in the living room - No fighting over who gets to watch what! (The TVs are "smart" ones, so you should be able to log into your favorite online streaming services through them.)
If you want to save money by cooking your own meals (or just warming up some of the excellent pre-prepared food from Mountain Fresh Market and Dusty's Rhodes Superette), you'll find a fully-equipped kitchen, with all the pots pans and utensils you might need. There's also a coffee grinder and both drip and Kuerig coffee makers so bring your favorite beans or K-cups and wake up to fresh-brewed coffee :-)
We've really tried to make Creekview Cabin an easy, comfortable place to stay. You'll find fresh sheets on the beds, fresh towels and facecloths in all the bathrooms as well as soap, shampoo and conditioner: Just bring yourselves and your clothes and settle right in!
Is it impossible for you to get *completely* away? We know the feeling! There's a nice, very functional office area in the loft, with a large-screen monitor and a printer/fax/copier for guest use. High-speed cable modem and Free Wi-Fi are also included, and there's free long-distance dialing for the entire US. If you can manage it, by all means turn off the email. Sometimes though, staying connected can mean the difference between a hurried weekend or relaxing week away. - Or between a week and a month's stay. At Creekview Cabin, you can stay as close to or as far from work as you'd like, the choice is yours!
Get a house of your own with 3 bedrooms & 3 baths, and freedom to come and go as you please, plus a pet-friendly atmosphere, for *less* than you'd pay for a basic hotel suite in town! We stayed in hotels and commercial cabins for years until we realized what terrible deals they were: Private cabins like ours make *so* much more sense! - And if you look around here on VRBO, you'll find very few places like ours at a matching price, especially ones that accept dogs.
And yes, Creekview Cabin is dog-friendly too: We're both dog people and part of the reason we bought the place was to make it possible for people to vacation with their pets; we can't imagine leaving our boy Yoshi at home! Do let us know about your dog when booking though; four-footed family members need to be as well-behaved as their people, to keep the place nice for those who'll follow. Highlands is a *great* place for dogs, you'll see lots of them in town, including sitting with their people at some of the restaurants with outside dining areas. Our rescue Yoshi *loves* Highlands and our cabin, we bet your pets will too! (Sorry though, it's dogs only; we regretfully don't accept cats as guests.)
PLEASE NOTE though: We have nearby neighbors, both in our little development and in the house from another development you can see through the trees across the ravine. Please respect their right to a *peaceful* mountain environment by keeping your dogs on leash when you're with them within the development, and also please don't leave them stuck on the screened porch during the day, where their lonely barking would disturb other families around us. Most dog owners are naturally very respectful of others, but we've had a couple of situations with dogs running loose or barking allll day on the porch that resulted in complaints. You and your pup will have a wonderful time at Creekview Cabin; please help us keep that option open for others in the future!
My cell number is 770-827-1993: Feel free to call if you're reading this and have questions about the property, and I'm available 24/7 if you have any issues with the house. We have local handymen and contractors we can call on if any issues, but I'm right down in Atlanta, and will absolutely make the drive if there's a bigger issue.
We LOVE Highlands, and think you will too! Give it a try, you'll be hooked for life!
PS: Visiting friends in the area? Our place is literally just across the main road from the Culasaja Club and just down the road from Wildcat Cliffs Country Club and Old Edwards at Highlands Cove. Stay here, visit there; all three are literally two minutes away!
